  18. "Hello," I told the Bhaalspawn, the former ward of Gorion. "I am a dragon, and you are interesting. I think I will follow you on your journey."
  19.
  20. The face that the youth made was an interesting one. Likely because I was holding the form of a man. When he chose to disbelieve me, I took it in stride, for how else would one react to this? So I offered to show him in a place where my size would be less of a hassle to him.
  21.
  22. Initially he thought my disappearing was a trick, until a contrabass voice pointed out that not all dragons can be easily seen. Six seconds - and a perception and wisdom check - later, he realized that whatever sort of dragon I was, I was not a common one, nor even an uncommon one. He was rewarded with booming laughter, and the reveal of a force dragon coiled before him.
  23.
  24. "I like you, kid. You know what, I think I'll tag along. It's been a little while since I've taken anyone under my wing. You set the course, and I'll help fill in the blanks and teach you a few things along the way." Abruptly, the translucent dragon disappeared, replaced by the familiar form of an older man. "What do you say?"
  25.
  26. What COULD the youth say other than yes? Offending a dragon is done only at one's own peril. And for that matter, something - someONE - like that is sure to know a great many things. Who knows what could come of it?
  27.
  28. The train never really got fully off of the rails of canon, aside from a surprise member of the party. And aside from certain inconveniences being far less inconvenient than they otherwise might be.
  29.
  30. Although the party got power-leveled.
  31.
  32. And the dragon got a decade in without very much boredom, too.
