  1. So, there are one or two decently large changes that would be a little jarring if you went straight from the original to the rewrite without reading the 'things you need to know' post I'm going to make when the rewrite starts going public. Most notably one character has been written out entirely (two, actually, though one has no bearing on things that aren't in the early chapters, so you probably wouldn't even notice), and there was the removal of one element people found particularly objectionable (though it's more...changed to remove the problem? Hard to explain without going into specifics, but point is it's no longer an issue).

  3. And, as mentioned in my profile post the first bit is really rough. (IIRC the first...ten to fifteen chapters were written over the space of like two years, off and on, has inconsistencies in tense, a few more grammatical errors (Since they were not being edited at that point), and I was really unsure of the direction I wanted to take things.

  5. Most importantly, more than once I would get an idea that would change the course of the series, and so it'd just sort of...come out of left field. There's a REALLY egregious one early on that has almost no warning, and it's just super jarring. So, with the rewrite, I've been able to account for things like this from the start of the story, and make a VASTLY more smooth experience leading up to those.

  7. There's at least once instance of moving events about on the timeline, and the addition of one plot point that will likely come into play in the future (or, at the very least, be mentioned. It'll be in the aforementioned 'things you need to know' post, though).
  8.
  9. There's a lot of unnecessary fluff that I've tried to cut down on as well (mostly with status-esque windows, I had a tendency to go wild with them in the beginning, and as I progressed more and more with the series they started to fade more into the background, so I've tried to keep the window rate as consistent as I could, though there are still one or two points where I had to have a bunch due to them being vitally important later on), and then aside from that it's mostly quality improvements and chapter cleanups.
  10.
  11. Most chapters are written with the original as a 'guide' rather than going back and editing, though there are a fair few passages where things were copy-pasted wholesale because they worked. So, most chapters are entirely fresh.

  13. What you can expect in terms of where changes end:
  14. I have 29 1/2 chapters done right now (333 pages or just over 86,000 words). This reaches roughly chapter 31 in the original, accounting for fluff being cut out, some things being added, moved around, etc. I was originally planning to rewrite through 32, but it seems likely that there will be at least two more chapters from where I am now to finish that. After that, I need to make a careful pass through things until chapter 58, and then a quick pass through the rest (chapter 72, and I mean REALLY quick pass). I expect the passes to take relatively little time except for a couple of elements I need to change, so once I'm in that stage we're probably going to see it posted to SH soon. Maybe even during that phase, I don't know.
  15.
  16. Honestly...I'm closer than I thought, now that I'm looking at things like that. I give it a month, depending on how busy I get, how easy these last few chapters are to write, and if the passes through the rest take more time than I thought, but they really shouldn't.
