Daddee goes away

>Now you sleep in a soft basket in Kelly's room.

>Still much bigger than a fluffy pony!
>She's big enough to ride a bike, but not big enough to have a phone.
>She complains about that a lot.
>You don't understand "phones" though.
>You like her bike...you can ride in the basket and go fast!
>Mommy lives here too.
>Mommy gives you your nummies. She gives great huggies.
>Your favorite is daddy.
>He's the biggest and strongest...you like him best.
>Sometimes you get to sit in his lap.
>Daddy scratches behind your ears.  You love that.
>Kelly explains that daddy's job is to give owwies to bad men.
>Daddy wears special fluff for his job.
>It's the same color as trees.
>One day he wore it at home, and hid in the bushes.
>You tried to find him...but you couldn't!
>Everybody laughed as you ran around the yard, calling his name.
>You didn't think it was so funny.
>It was scary to lose daddy!

>Daddy went away a long time ago.
>Mommy says he had to go away because of his job.
>You don't like that.
>You don't like it when daddy is gone.
>Daddy has to go far away to find the bad men and give them owwies.
>You hope daddy will come back soon.
>Grandma comes to live with you while daddy is gone.
>She helps mommy & Kelly.
>You like grandma.
>She's daddy's mommy.
>It's all very complicated, but you're a smart fluffy pony.

>One day, daddy comes to visit.
>He is inside the computer box!
>You want to hug him, but mommy, grandma & Kelly stop you.
>They all laugh.
>You don't understand...you give good huggies.
>Everybody says so.
>Daddy tells you to take care of everybody.
>Give them huggies if they're sad.
>You wish daddy could stay, but he goes away again.
>There must be bad men someplace that he needs to give owwies to.

>One day there's a knock on the door.
>You run to see who it is.
>Grandma shuffles you out of the way.
>It's two men...wearing fancy fluff.
>They have shiny things and colorful things on their chests.
>Daddy has special fluff just like that.
>These must be daddy's friends!
>Grandma is afraid though.
>You don't understand why.
>If they're daddy's friends they must be nice.
>They come inside and sit down with grandma.
>You hug their legs.
>But grandma picks you up and locks you inside Kelly's room.
>You can hear crying outside...it's grandma.
>You want to come out. She needs huggies!

>A long time goes by.
>You hear Mommy come home.
>She cries too.
>Soon Kelly comes home...she goes to a place called "school."
>Now you hear Kelly crying too.
>Was Kelly bad? Is she getting spankies?
>That sometimes happens.
>No...mommy & grandma do not sound angry.
>Why is everybody sad?
>And why won't they let you out to give huggies?
>It's your job to give huggies when somebody is sad.
>Daddy told you so!

>It's night-time before Kelly comes into her room.
>She's still wearing the special fluff she wears for school.
>Kelly is still crying...something has made her very sad.
>She lays down on her bed and curls up in her blanket.
>It's not sleepy time yet!
>She doesn't even have her sleep fluff on.
"Kewwy need huggies? Wan' pway?"
>She pushes you away and rolls over.
>"Not now, Clover."

>You climb up on Kelly's bed and try to nuzzle her.
"Why Kewwy sad?"
>She looks at you and cries even more.
>Grandma comes in and takes you away.
>"You need to leave her alone, Clover...she just lost her daddy."
>You don't understand.
"Daddee wost? Find daddee!"
>He's probably just wearing that silly fluff again.
>Nobody can find him when he wears that.
>Grandma lets you sit on her lap.
>She scratches you behind the ears.
>Not as good as daddy, but you like it anyway.
>"Oh Clover...how can I explain. Henry was in Iraq, remember?"
>You really don't understand, but you listen.
>"His helicopter crashed..."
"What hewicoptew? What cwash?"
>"Clover, do you remember when Kelly crashed her bicycle?"
>You remember...it was scary.
"Fwuffy in basket! Fwuffy get owwies! Remembew!"
>"Well Henry got hurt when his helicopter crashed.  Hurt badly."
"Daddee need huggies? Fwuffy gif best huggies!"
>Hugs make everything better.
>"No Clover...his injuries were too severe. He died."
"Whaa? What died?"
>"It means he's never coming back."
>Now you know why everybody is sad. Daddy is never coming home.
>Grandma pets you as you sob.
"Gwandma iz...daddee mummy?"
>Grandma nods.
"Gwandma lose babee. Fwuffy sad. Fwuffy sowwee."
>She cries again.  You climb up and hug her chest.
>You always give the best huggies, but they don't help.
>Huggies can't make things better.
>Huggies can't change the bad things.
>Your huggies are useless.
>You've never felt smaller or more worthless in your life.
