Anyway, Altani was born into a fairly small clan of Dataq. Everything is going reasonably well until - I never said any of them had any decent level, because I will be DAMNED if I do that crap leading up to Titan again without being blackout drunk for the entire thing. >< - a handful of them went off to hunt and gather and just make sure they had enough supplies to live on. Altani's about seven when this happens (for reference, she's about 20-21 now).

Few hours into the expedition, they hear war... horns? Wardrums? What the hell would a mongol tribe use to shout "oi, we're comin' to kill your ass"? War-whatever-instruments. So they drop their shit and rush back... only to find most of their people slaughtered or dying, along with a bunch'a dotharl corpses. - Thank you, Al! - Including the chief, chief's wife, and... a good 90% of Altani's actual family (including her parents and grandmother, who was the clan's shaman).

So they just kinda... get the hell out of dodge after making sure everyone is dead (because that's really the best they could do, given the situation). Then they're found by a clan of Kahkol, who 'adopt' them. Altani used to actually be a shy lil' shit, so she clung to what actual family she had left. And the chief's son gave her no end of hell for this over the years. Around the time she turns fifteen, just weeks before she undergoes her trial to be considered adult, she snaps and fights back. That turns into an actual struggle and the chief's son is killed. Altani is sentenced to exile. Then she just... kinda meanders without any aim, manages to sneak her way onto a boat because, hey, there's food and water there, and comes to Thanalan via... Shit, where's the old Scions base at? That port town.

Makes her way to Ul'dah, lives in the streets for a bit, and is almost picked up by a very well-off hyur who wants him some young lizard. Thankfully, a very angry and stabby man comes along, guts the fucker and lets him bleed out in the street (he'd been meaning to just mug him, but seeing him go after what was essentially a kid pushed him over the edge). This angry and stabby man (Will) then takes Altani in and is the reason she spouts off 'yehs' and 'yers,' along with that Ala Mhigan accent.
