- >”Hey, Anon,” a familiar voice called, “you’re up late.”
- >You turned around and saw Sunset Shimmer leaning on the door frame in her pajamas.
- >There was a cool smirk on her face, but when she got a better look at you it faded away, and was replaced by a look of confusion.
- >”Why are you all dressed up Anon, aren’t you tired?”
- >The last time she saw you, you were curled up on the couch just wearing some boxers and a t shirt.
- >But now you’re in the suit you wore at school earlier today.
- >The suit you wore at lunch when Pinkie invited you over for a get together with her friends.
- >The suit you wore last week when you started your first day at CHS, in the middle of the school year.
- You shrugged your shoulders, “no, I’m not tired, but you probably are. I didn’t wake you up did I?”
- >Sunset waved one of her hands, “no. I was just looking for the bathroom.”
- You pointed to your right, “I think you just have to keep going down that hall you’re in, but I’m not sure.”
- >Sunset thanked you, and an awkward tension surrounded the air when she didn’t leave.
- >She looked at you for a while until you began staring at your feet.
- >Some time quickly passed; you faked a yawn and stretched your arms before turning away to leave the room.
- “Well, good luck finding the bathroom, Sunset.”
- >Sunset sighed, “Anon, you’re not leaving are you?”
- You stopped and turned around, “what do you mean?”
- >Sunset approached you; she was twirling her hair confidently.
- >”Oh come on Anon, why else would you get all dressed up in the middle of the night.”
- >There was a calm about her; her eyes were half lidded, her smile was small but honest, and she yawned slowly and evenly.
- >She leaned on the kitchen counter and sighed, “So where were you going?”
- >Sunset looked at you in a way that felt trusting; like someone you didn’t want to lie to.
- >You walked over and leaned on the same counter; it somehow removed the tension.
- You got to the point, “I was gonna walk home.”
- >Sunset merely nodded, she was waiting for you to continue.
- “I felt uncomfortable being around here today. You know Pinkie invited me at the last minute, and she’s like the only friend I have at school so I didn’t want to say no.”
- “But I knew I shouldn’t’ve come, cause I knew this would happen. I knew I would feel out of place here, hanging out with you girls.”
- “Cause you’re all such good friends you know, and I just feel like I’m not really.”
- >You stopped and looked at Sunset.
- >She was still listening, but her smile was gone.
- >She nodded her head, “I know how you feel Anon.”
- >This time she looked away, off to something on her right.
- >”I’m sure you’ve heard by now that I used to be a really different person before the Fall Formal.”
- >”I didn’t have any friends; I never went to any parties or hung out with people.”
- >She rubbed her forearm and shut her eyes tightly, “I was miserable, and I didn’t think having friends would change that.”
- >Then she looked in your eyes and smiled, “but I was wrong, and when I did seek out friends, Pinkie and the rest of the girls were the first people to give the new Sunset Shimmer a chance.”
- >She began to twirl her hair again, this time she got embarrassed, “but there was someone who didn’t want to give the new Sunset Shimmer a chance.”
- >”Back when I was first getting to know the girls, Pinkie invited us all to a slumber party at her place, but I wasn’t so sure I wanted to go at the time.”
- >”I mean, a week ago I was pushing people around and excluding everyone, but by Saturday night I was in a room with five other girls braiding hair and eating pizza.”
- >”It was a big change for me, and even though everyone was really nice, I felt like I didn’t belong with them.”
- >”When I played video games with Dash, or gossiped with Rarity, or traded jokes with Pinkie, I wondered if this was actually who I was.”
- >”I felt awkward the whole time, like I was a third wheel, or some kind of pity invite.”
- >”I wondered if we were actually friends, or if they were just being friendly so the old Sunset Shimmer wouldn’t come back.”
- >She sighed and looked out the window, “so I decided to leave. I waited until everyone was asleep and snuck out.”
- >”I grabbed my clothes and went to the bathroom to change.”
- >Sunset smiled, “but when I looked in the mirror, I saw something that proved to me that I was their friend.”
- >She looked at you and grabbed some of her hair, and you saw that it was braided.
- >”I looked in the mirror and saw that one of the girls had braided my hair.”
- >She giggled, “I know it sounds silly, but it made me stop and look at myself, it made me think about everything that happened that night.”
- >”And I remembered things that made me happy, like when Dash asked me if I wanted to play a game with her before anyone else, or when Pinkie made sure I got the first slice of pizza.”
- >”And when I thought about those things, I looked in the mirror and noticed that they all made me smile.”
- >”That’s when I knew that the old Sunset Shimmer could never come back. I didn’t have any good memories like that before I met the girls.”
- >”But in just one night, I already had enough memories to make me happy.”
- >Sunset went to the fridge and got two cans of whip cream, “want one of these Anon?”
- >You shook your head.
- >She shrugged and walked back up to you with a mouth full of cream.
- “So, you really think they like me then?”
- >Sunset swallowed and nodded, “don’t worry about it dude. Just make sure to tell Rarity she looks good in the morning and you’ll be fine.”
- >”Also, make sure to tell Pinkie that you had lots of fun, she’ll like that.”
- “Any other tips for me Sunset?”
- >”You got a pet?”
- “My family has a dog back home.”
- >”Good, make sure to tell Fluttershy that, she’ll definitely want to hear about him.”
- >”You play sports Anon?”
- “Well,” you trail off.
- >”So that’s a no. Well you could still ask Dash how the softball team is doing, she’ll talk your ear off if you do that, it’ll mostly be about her though.”
- >You both snicker and continue talking for a time.
- >But eventually you do actually get tired, and you both decide to call it a night.
- >Sunset walks through the kitchen door and goes into the hall, but before she disappears she turns around.
- >”Hey Anon?”
- “Yeah?”
- >She looks down, “don’t go around saying that Pinkie Pie is your only friend.”
- >Your eyes meet and you both smile, “cause I’m your friend too.”
- You feel butterflies in your stomach, “I won’t, thanks a lot Sunset, for everything.”
- >”No problem, I’m gonna hurry up and get back in my sleeping bag before someone notices I’m gone. Goodnight Anon.”
- You both wave, “goodnight Sunset.”
- >You strip to your shirt and boxers and go back to the couch.
- >And when you wake in the morning you see Sunset in the recliner next to you.
- >She’s snoring peacefully, blankets wrapped around her, with her head leaning a bit to the right.
- >You just stayed where you were, trying not to wake her.
