39. Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) is an unemployed 23-year-old hipster in a going-nowhere garage rock band who is dating an underage 17-year-old high school girl, Knives Chau (Ellen Wong). He is completely self-absorbed and oblivious anyone else's needs but his own until one day Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) becomes the object of his obsessions for basically no reason. Ramona is a shrill, unlikable, damaged hipster who is only likable to Scott. No one knows what her past is, but Scott will find out very soon as he tries to make Ramona his new girlfriend, cheating on his devastated underage girlfriend. Before Scott can begin dating Ramona, he must prove himself by defeating the league of her seven exes who control her love life. They will do anything to get rid of and destroy any new boyfriend Ramona may consider. If Scott wants to find true love with Ramona, he must defeat all seven, faster than you can say "career ender"
 40. Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) is an unemployed 23-year-old bass guitarist in an up-and-coming garage rock band who is dating a cute 17-year-old high school girl, Knives Chau (Ellen Wong). He is having fun in life and rolling along at a nice even tempo until one day Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) roller-blades into his life. Ramona moved to Toronto from New York City to find peace and quiet and leave her past behind. No one knows what her past is, but Scott will find out very soon as he tries to make Ramona his new girlfriend. Before Scott can begin dating Ramona, he must prove himself by defeating the league of her seven exes who controls her love life. They will do anything to get rid of and destroy any new boyfriend Ramona may consider. If Scott wants to find true love with Ramona, he must defeat all seven, before the game is over.
 41. Personally I don't think it was as good as Hot Fuzz or Shaun of the Dead, but it was not bad. Very original and funny. There are clever scenes that only Edgar Wright could come up with. The fight scenes are extreme and awesome. I laughed a lot and had a good time, until the fight scenes just kept on coming.

After the 4th fight I began to wonder how I would sit through another 3 fights. The first 60 minutes are brilliant but after a while the movie drags and you wait for it to end. The 7th fight is redone twice, made the ending agonizing. And when I saw that Scott had to fight himself I was about ready to leave. The movie then saved itself and turned the last fight into a funny scene instead.

Go see it for the reason that there won't be another movie like this for a while. Experience the fights yourself and you can always leave when it begins to get too extensive.
 42. I recognize and admit that this is a good film, arguably even a great one. It has a very unique sense of humour, a visual style that's one of the few I've seen that manages to capture the essence of comic books and a character cast that's certainly memorable if not identifiable. That being said, I still loath this film. I do not like it. However, I have given it seven out of ten, because I can admit that the reason I don't like this film has nothing to do with its quality. Rather I hate its roster of characters, especially the main cast, and its morals.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a movie about a young man. The youngster in question isn't even that interesting. He's in a band, sure, but otherwise he's kind of a wimp. The kind of a nerd that other nerds will feel superior towards. Plus he's kind of an asshole, cheating behind the backs of his girlfriends just because he's too much of a coward or perhaps just too lazy to break up with them. He's not an admirable man, yet the whole movie revolves around him and his decisions. His "heroics". Now, some might claim that Scott is a perfect main character because of this, because he's the perfect everyman. Perhaps a bit of a pessimistic version of one, but still, he's very bland and normal, only the circumstances into which he is thrust upon are extraordinary. I however argue that a) he's an asshole and not at all likable, and b) movie's are supposed to inspire us, to show us something that we don't see in our everyday life.

At this point someone will argue that not every film has to be all about moral triumph and the nobleness of human mind. And that person would be right. I'm not claiming that my viewpoints have any kind of superiority here, they're only my personal take on this film. But I think that my viewpoints have relevance as they're one way to look at this film, a rather rare way from what I've gathered, but a way nonetheless. And sometimes the more extreme opinions, the rarer ones, are the ones worth sharing.

But as I've said, this is not a bad film. It has style, its actions scenes are some of the best there are, its dialogue is very fast-paced and brimmed with jokes and double meanings. And while I think that most characters in this film aren't pretty loathsome human beings, I cannot claim that they do not feel realistic. Their behaviour is sometimes very outlandish and caricature-like, but beneath all that they're still just like people that I've met and known in real life. The morals and worldviews of this film are pretty horrible, but perhaps the reason I hate the film so much is because the message hits so close to home. It's quite possible that I just don't want to face the truth.

So yeah, in the end I feel that I have to recommend this film to you. I personally don't like it, but it's just me. Love it or hate it, you at least owe it to yourselves to see this film and form your own opinions.
 43. With Scott Pilgrim, Wright leaps over the line from chattery cleverness to all-out self-consciousness.
 44. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is based on the graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim by Canadian cartoonist Bryan Lee O'Malley. Six Scott Pilgrim books were first published between 2004 and 2010. The movie's title comes from the second volume of the series but is an adaptation of all six volumes. It's called "I Heard Ramona Sing" by Frank Black. "Invaders Must Die" by The Prodigy

The short trailer features the song "Ramona" by Beck.

The full trailer has music by the fictional Sex Bob-Omb and "It's Getting Boring by the Sea" by Blood Red Shoes.

"Black Sheep" by Metric

Beck is playing the role of Sex Bob-omb.

Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning are writing the music for rival bands Crash and the Boys. There is an article about the music here. The time span can be surmised by the number of changes in Ramona's hair colour, which she states that she changes "every week and a half". Scott meets Ramona during the last few days of her "pink hair" cycle, before she goes blue for most of the film. She then change's her hair green at the end. The "blue hair" cycle was the only full cycle shown, so the time span of the film is between one and a half to two weeks (three at the most). Another hint to the time span is how Ramona kept mentioning how her relationships also only lasted a week and a half. As such, it can be surmised that a week and a half passed when she breaks up with Scott and returns to Gideon (hence the green hair in her next scene) Based on the landmarks present within the film (Honest Ed's, Lee's Palace, Casa Loma), the film primarily takes place in and around the Annex neighborhood in the central part of the city. Honest Ed's is a popular department store in the area and is visible in the background of many shots. There really is a Pizza Pizza restaurant across the street (though the interiors are different than seen in the film). Lee's Palace is a popular live music venue and it is located about two and half blocks east of Honest Ed's. Casa Loma is an actual castle located about three kilometers (about two miles) north of both landmarks and can quickly accessed by either subway or bus. There really is a steep staircase that must be climbed to reach Casa Loma from the south. The Annex is also home to The Bloor Cinema, a repertory cinema where Edgar Wright hosted screenings during production of the film. The school used in the film is St. Michael's College School, located at Bathurst St. and St. Clair Avenue West. Sometimes, but rarely in the amount seen in the film. However, it's not uncommon for that level of snow to be present during the winter. a5c7b9f00b
