- It all depends on what registrar the name is registered with, this is because most of them have a partnership with a drop catching company that get exclusive rights for catching the domain name as it expires.
- To find out the registrar the domain is with do a search at the whois
- These days nearly all good deleting domains are caught by one of the 3 big drop catchers. NameJet, Snap names & Pool
- Here are the partnerships for some of the most popular registrars:
- NetworkSolutions.com/eNom.com - exclusive to NameJet
- Register.com/DirectNic.com/Moniker.com/MyDomain.com/Dotster.com/DotRegister.com/DomainPeople.com/Answerable.com - exclusive to Snap names
- Tucows.com - exclusive to NameJet
- Godaddy.com - exclusive to TDnam
- If the domain you want to get is registered with any of the above you only need to back order with the exclusive partner, if not it is worth putting a back order in with all 3: NameJet, Snap names & Pool, doing so is free and you only pay if they are successful with acquiring the domain for you.
- If you are the only one to backorder the domain will be registered to you upon payment, if others have also back ordered the same name it will be sent to auction.
