  1. Wogglebug: In the links thing on your website it has Ect. instead of Etc.
  2. [7:58pm] Alivi: Ohhh Ill correct that
  3. [7:58pm] Alivi: thanks
  4. [7:58pm] Wogglebug: Also, the link's broken.
  5. [7:58pm] Alivi: Oh there isnt more.
  6. [7:58pm] Alivi: I should delete it
  7. [7:58pm] Wogglebug: lol
  8. [7:59pm] Wogglebug: So what have you got worked out so far?
  9. [7:59pm] Alivi: Mostly character application
  10. [7:59pm] Alivi: and the 4 paths
  11. [7:59pm] Alivi: http://pokemonmelodic.b1.jcink.com/index.php?showtopic=39&st=0&#entry96
  12. [7:59pm] Alivi: the map
  13. [7:59pm] Alivi: the cities
  14. [7:59pm] Alivi: The gym leaders (types and badges are mehhhh right now we will see)
  15. [7:59pm] Wogglebug: How did you intend to do the actual RPing?
  16. [7:59pm] Alivi: And the catching.
  17. [8:00pm] Alivi: the actual RP is forum based
  18. [8:00pm] Wogglebug: Uh-huh
  19. [8:00pm] Wogglebug: But how was it supposed to go?
  20. [8:00pm] Alivi: Wel traveling, adventuring, meeting, catchng, battling, contests/etc
  21. [8:00pm] Alivi: each of these paths have a certian thing to expect
  22. [8:00pm] Alivi: Rangers go on missions
  23. [8:00pm] Alivi: trainers train and battle
  24. [8:01pm] Alivi: breeders breed pokemon and work on pokemon collecting
  25. [8:01pm] Wogglebug: Would it be a central start, or a drop-in system?
  26. [8:01pm] Alivi: Coordinators work on training for contests.
  27. [8:01pm] Alivi: ??
  28. [8:02pm] Wogglebug: Like, is it that everyone starts out in one place (for example, the starting town), or do people all have different origins and start out atdifferent points in their pokemaning careers?
  29. [8:02pm] Alivi: ah
  30. [8:02pm] Alivi: We do have one Cardinal town
  31. [8:02pm] Alivi: however people can start from anywhere
  32. [8:03pm] Wogglebug: What about levels? Could someone, say, start as a gym-leader?
  33. [8:03pm] Alivi: It is suggested they start at Cardinal Town for the Pokedex but they can if they dont want one. Start elsewhere and if they do want it they can work it
  34. [8:03pm] Alivi: No
  35. [8:03pm] Alivi: If you notice there is a ranking system
  36. [8:03pm] Alivi: All people start at the same level.
  37. [8:03pm] Wogglebug: UH-huh
  38. [8:03pm] Wogglebug: Ahh
  39. [8:03pm] Alivi: Gym leaders would likely be on a frontier island type thing
  40. [8:04pm] Wogglebug: For the battling system, were you wanting to make it based more on skills and allocations, or in creativity in the use of traits and moves?
  41. [8:04pm] Alivi: Due to the fact we have NPC Gym leaders already and we need to know the player is active enough to do an actual one.
  42. [8:04pm] Alivi: I want creativity.
  43. [8:04pm] Wogglebug: Basically, stats vs. RP
  44. [8:04pm] Alivi: We dont have a pokemon RP leveling
  45. [8:04pm] Wogglebug: I'm aware.
  46. [8:04pm] Alivi: So i want a balance
  47. [8:04pm] Alivi: I would love it to be RP based
  48. [8:04pm] Alivi: But we need a way to prevent godmodding
  49. [8:04pm] Wogglebug: Did you intend to limit the pokemon one could start with?
  50. [8:04pm] Alivi: and people powegaming
  51. [8:05pm] Alivi: Yea. No legendaries exisit
  52. [8:05pm] Alivi: You have to have a good reason to start with an evolved or powerful pokemon
  53. [8:05pm] Wogglebug: Ahh.
  54. [8:06pm] Alivi: Yea. I wanna be flexible.
  55. [8:06pm] Wogglebug: So what systems still need working out, and in what manner?
  56. [8:06pm] Alivi: Battling is the most important
  57. [8:06pm] Alivi: Followed by Coordinating and Breeding.
  58. [8:07pm] Alivi: Battling is the central thing many things come down to battling.
  59. [8:07pm] Alivi: So that is priority #1
  60. [8:07pm] Wogglebug: Hmm. Well, you've already determined you want to ensure that battling is something you want to be creativity based, rather than stat baswed.
  61. [8:07pm] Wogglebug: But do you want to preclude stats totally?
  62. [8:07pm] Alivi: I need ways to prevent godmodding
  63. [8:07pm] Alivi: we figured minor stats is a good way
  64. [8:08pm] Wogglebug: The easiest way I can think of of godmodding is just unbalanced stat allocation.
  65. [8:08pm] Alivi: ?
  66. [8:08pm] Wogglebug: For example, say we have a base-10 stat system to wrok with.
  67. [8:08pm] Alivi: ok
  68. [8:09pm] Wogglebug: 5 Categories, spd, atk, def, spdef, spatk
  69. [8:10pm] Wogglebug: The best way to balance such a system would be to limit stat allocation to be based on the stats of the actual pokeomn, to some degree.
  70. [8:10pm] Wogglebug: Because, for the most part, the regular game is relatively balanced, at least with comparable pokemon.
  71. [8:11pm] Alivi: yea
  72. [8:11pm] Wogglebug: If a Spinda fights a Bulbasour, it should be pretty even.
  73. [8:11pm] Wogglebug: But, say a character uses a Garchomp versus a Bulbasour. The Bulbasour is going to get destroyeed.
  74. [8:11pm] Alivi: yea as it should be
  75. [8:11pm] Wogglebug: *saur
  76. [8:12pm] Alivi: its ok! I understood :D :D
  77. [8:12pm] Wogglebug: Thing is, as far as RPs go, it wouldn't be the funnest if you have one guy running around with a super-strong pokemon killin' everything
  78. [8:12pm] Alivi: yea...exactly.
  79. [8:12pm] Wogglebug: So you would need to limit the selection of pokemon so that choices (at least ones that compete) are fair.
  80. [8:13pm] Wogglebug: But, saqy, someone doesn't want to have a battling pokemon, merely one for other things.
  81. [8:14pm] Wogglebug: To allow for such things, you could make some provision that only comparably-statted pokemon can engage in direct battle.
  82. [8:14pm] Alivi: yea.
  83. [8:14pm] Wogglebug: The trick there is just having a good reason for it, in-universe.
  84. [8:14pm] Alivi: unless the players pre-discussed one losing against another
  85. [8:14pm] Alivi: yea
  86. [8:14pm] Wogglebug: Any ideas for explanations thereof?
  87. [8:14pm] Alivi: mmm
  88. [8:14pm] Alivi: kinda hard.
  89. [8:15pm] Alivi: Maybe we can place the base stats of the pokemon in the pokedex
  90. [8:15pm] Alivi: as we add them?
  91. [8:15pm] Wogglebug: An option, but it would somewhat break immersion.
  92. [8:15pm] Wogglebug: It would be weird for a Dragonite to lose to a Charmander.
  93. [8:16pm] Alivi: yea
  94. [8:16pm] Alivi: majorly
  95. [8:16pm] Wogglebug: You could just have it so that it's a matter of courtesy within the region not to have unfair battles (unless it's prediscussed)
  96. [8:16pm] Alivi: yea
  97. [8:16pm] Alivi: :D
  98. [8:16pm] Wogglebug: Or you could have it be regulation within the region's battling rules.
  99. [8:16pm] Alivi: in the culture
  100. [8:16pm] Alivi: and have the tradion been made into a rule
  101. [8:16pm] Wogglebug: However, there could be cases of people ignoring culture.
  102. [8:17pm] Wogglebug: Especially outsiders and the criminal sort.
  103. [8:17pm] Alivi: mhm
  104. [8:17pm] Wogglebug: ot so sure about those cases.
  105. [8:17pm] Wogglebug: You could just disallow it OC, but once again that would make things a bit breaking immersion.
  106. [8:18pm] Alivi: yea.
  107. [8:18pm] Wogglebug: So perhaps some form or enforcement.
  108. [8:18pm] Alivi: Well criminals…would do that
  109. [8:19pm] Wogglebug: Aye.
  110. [8:19pm] Wogglebug: Did you intend to have criminality be an option?
  111. [8:19pm] Alivi: yes
  112. [8:19pm] Alivi: People can join a local crime group like a Team Rocket
  113. [8:20pm] Alivi: or form their
  114. [8:20pm] Alivi: own
  115. [8:20pm] Wogglebug: In that case, we would need to make a system in which it would be difficult to hold unbalanced battles.
  116. [8:20pm] Wogglebug: For the criminal sort, at least.
  117. [8:20pm] Wogglebug: On account of the sort who would godmod would also like that soprt of thing.
  118. [8:21pm] Wogglebug: You know how in the game all pokeon over 6 are auto-transferred back to the PC system?
  119. [8:21pm] Alivi: mhm
  120. [8:22pm] Wogglebug: The region could have some system working on a similar system, that loosely tracks conflicts between pokemon and auto-returns pokemon in unfair (read: dangerous) battles, for their own protection.
  121. [8:22pm] Alivi: mhm
  122. [8:22pm] Alivi: NICE
  123. [8:22pm] Wogglebug: Without actually alerting anyone, it being an automated function of how the system is designed,
  124. [8:22pm] Alivi: I like that idea
  125. [8:23pm] Wogglebug: Could be interesting to have some big-bad with pokemon held outside of thesystem, in sort of hacked pokeballs, allowing for unbalanced battles in dramatic events.
  126. [8:23pm] Alivi: Yea.
  127. [8:23pm] Alivi: And of course Wild Pokemon
  128. [8:24pm] Wogglebug: Those too.
  129. [8:25pm] Wogglebug: That would make difficult trainer-trainer unbalanced battles, but I suppose those cold be pre-planned and registered within the safety system, with the battle being allowed to continue by the system to the point where one of the pokemon is near destruction or summat.
  130. [8:26pm] Wogglebug: So that wold handle that.
  131. [8:27pm] Alivi: yea
  132. [8:27pm] Wogglebug: As for actual statting stuff, I'd say just take regular base stat ranges, shrink them, and allow the players to choose within the ranges.
  133. [8:27pm] Wogglebug: If something needs adjusting, it could be.
  134. [8:28pm] Wogglebug: Say someone wanted a very fast Squirtel wiht a weak shell, their defense could be lowered below the minimum by a bit and their speed be raised above the maximum slightly.
  135. [8:28pm] Alivi: Yea
  136. [8:28pm] Wogglebug: Battles could then be done using these stats as roll modifiers for attacks, which would themselves have values of their own.
  137. [8:29pm] Wogglebug: With the exact effects varying depending on the creativity.
  138. [8:29pm] Wogglebug: But overall power being decided largely by rolls and stats.
  139. [8:29pm] Wogglebug: Of course, creativity would be given precedence.
  140. [8:29pm] Alivi: Yea which is what we are going for
  141. [8:30pm] Wogglebug: Aye.
  142. [8:30pm] Alivi: Woggle…you are a hero!
  143. [8:30pm] Wogglebug: I'm so great man.
  144. [8:30pm] Alivi: You are!
  145. [8:30pm] Wogglebug: I'mma try and figure out a good numberr to shrink to using existing stats.
  146. [8:31pm] Wogglebug: I'm assuming you wanna use variations off base stats, rather than all the gumbo with EVs and IVs, yeah?
  147. [8:32pm] Alivi: No no
  148. [8:32pm] Alivi: just base....
  149. [8:32pm] Wogglebug: Yeah.
  150. [8:32pm] Alivi: WE dont wanna make it too complex for players
  151. [8:32pm] Wogglebug: lol
  152. [8:32pm] Alivi: and for Gms
  153. [8:32pm] Alivi: XD
  154. [8:32pm] Wogglebug: But the base could vary with the way the player wants to stat it, yeah?
  155. [8:32pm] Alivi: yea!
  156. [8:32pm] Wogglebug: Aight.
  157. [8:42pm] Wogglebug: What dice system are you going to use?
  158. [8:43pm] Alivi: ….no idea
  159. [8:43pm] Alivi: we have a dice roller...
  160. [8:45pm] Wogglebug: Well, with the one we use in FR.
  161. [8:45pm] Wogglebug: You could do this:
  162. [8:46pm] Wogglebug: Have the stats of the pokemon be the same value as their base stat, rounded to the nearest ten and divided by ten.
  163. [8:47pm] Alivi: ok
  164. [8:47pm] Wogglebug: Then have attacks be 6df+(atk or spatk)+(power of move, rounded to nearest ten and divided by ten)
  165. [8:47pm] Alivi: ok
  166. [8:47pm] Wogglebug: And then have defense be 6df+(def)
  167. [8:47pm] Wogglebug: With the resulting damage taken from the defender's HP, which would be the same as the base stat.
  168. [8:47pm] Alivi: yea
  169. [8:48pm] Alivi: speed being already determined
  170. [8:48pm] Wogglebug: With the stats fluctualting based on initial pokemon statting.
  171. [8:48pm] Alivi: yea.
  172. [8:48pm] Wogglebug: Spd would just be a competitive roll.
  173. [8:48pm] Alivi: ok
  174. [8:48pm] Wogglebug: And then modifiers would modify the total atk strength.
  175. [8:49pm] Wogglebug: I dunno if that system would work or not, but it's an idea.
  176. [8:49pm] Wogglebug: Average for any stat would be about 7.
  177. [8:50pm] Wogglebug: Highest possible (excluding HP) would be around 23 or 24 for defense
  178. [8:50pm] Alivi: ok
