"University of Andromeda confirms existence of alien ruins"

The University of Andromeda’s College of Xenostudies has confirmed that ruins of an ancient alien city have been uncovered within the Barren’s Stellar Group.

According to the press conference, the UoA discovered the ruins during a routine system survey when infrared images from a geologically dead planet turned up with anomalous patches of heat. Further surveys involving ground penetrating radar revealed artificial constructs buried deep beneath a layer of sand and dust.

Owing to concerns about looters and pirates, The University has refused to disclose the location of the archeological site, referring only to the system as “Damiata”.

Such a find represents the first time that humanity has found physical evidence of an extinct alien civilization within known space.

Another freighter missing while en route to Sabana

The New Singapore Spaceport Authority has declared another freighter to be missing after it failed to appear in the Sabana System two weeks after it was scheduled to arrive.

The freighter, LSS Rigel Sunset, was last seen undertaking a general systems chill within Leeport on May 16, 2806 before continuing on the Leeport-Sabana route, which is the primary trade lane between the resource-rich outer Barrier Nebula and Confederacy space.

The Rigel Sunset was a Conestoga-class Medium Cargo Vessel and registered in Capella to Liberty Logistics Limited. It was on what was supposed to have been a standard supply run, transporting goods from the core League of Independent Colony worlds to the Sabana system, located on the far side of the Barrens Stellar Group.

The Rigel Sunset was carrying over 100,000 tons of critical electronics, heavy machinery, and luxury goods. Liberty Logistics spokespersons have declined to give any comments thus far.

The Sabana System Flotilla is currently cooperating with the Confederacy Spaceguard to organize a search sweep along all systems on the Leeport-Sabana trade route.

The Rigel Sunset’s disappearance would mark the 5th such incident to occur in the Leeport-Sabana route within the last 12 months.

Coruscant Hive Emissary: “Disappearances outside of our jurisdiction.”

With the recent spate of ship disappearances along the Leeport-Sabana trade route, concerned politicians have lambasted the lack of reaction from the Coruscant Hive, whose territory borders the trade route carrying resources from chartered mining operations within Hive space.

The emissary, identifying itself only as “The Speaker”, had this much to say:

“While the loss of the transport vessels and resources are regrettable, the route of which they travel is three sixes of light years away from the established borders of the Hive.”

“Furthermore, the Hive believes that these disappearances are likely caused by the predations of your rival human hives. As such they fall outside of our jurisdiction.”

“As the Hive respects the borders of the humans, the humans must also respect the Hive’s disinterest in involving itself with the affairs of the human hives.”

While search efforts remain underway, Confederate authorities have so far been unable to pin down the causes of the disappearances.

Union claims Confederate Fleet redeployment “provocative”

The Union Consul to the Confederacy, Rear Admiral Mitchell Lager, said on Monday that Confederate Fleet movements “are provocative and can be misconstrued as buildup to hostile action.”

“It is ironic that the Confederacy loves calling us imperialists and warmongers, but you don’t see the Union engaging in this kind of blatant saber-rattling.” He continued.

The fleet redeployment, in accordance with the recent reorganization of the Fleet Command Structure earlier this year, could see as many as a hundred different warships of all classes moving across the Confederate side of the border.

The current Chief of Fleet Operation, Admiral Anselm Galveston, has this to say.

“The redeployment involves replacing old vessels nearing the end of their service lives in the frontier with newer ships. Would you complain about your neighbor buying a new aircar when his old one has worn out?”
