As Rootspring hesitated, Willowshine lashed her tail and let out a hiss of impatience. Lunging for Rootspring, she snapped, “Come on! You have to help me!” As soon as the words were out, she grabbed him by the scruff.
She grabbed me? Rootspring felt a chill of horror sinking through his pelt ss far as his bones. Spirits can touch me now?Even worse, Willowshine began pulling him toward the Moonpool.
“Wait!” Rootspring yowled. The noise startled Bristlefrost awake; she stared at him with wide eyes. “I don’t—I can’t swim!” But that didn’t matter. Willowshine gripped him fast and plunged into the water, dragging Rootspring with her.

Bristlefrost stared into the Moonpool, shocked to the tips of her claws; she could hardly believe what she had just seen. Rootspring had suddenly lunged toward the pool and dived in, but it had looked as if something was forcing him to do it. His neck had been bent, as if he was being dragged into the water by some other cat she couldn’t see. He had let out a frantic yowl: “I can’t swim!”
