  1. >Alone in Chrysalis’ room, you sit on her bed.
  2. >It’s a comfortable bed, actually.
  3. >Soft and with some nice sheets.
  4. >The sheets are a shade of red eerily similar to blood, but that’s only a minor detail.
  5. >Although you wonder how Chrysalis might react on seeing you on it.
  6. >You imagine she’d be annoyed.
  7. >But then she shouldn’t keep you confined to this single chamber.
  8. >You kind of wish she’d let you wander around.
  9. >The place is huge and there must be a lot to see.
  10. >Not being able to read the books kept here is also a little frustrating.
  11. >Why can’t anyone write anything in English?
  12. >Most already speak the damn language.
  13. >Of course, your current level of movability is already a bit of a breakthrough.
  14. >And whenever you try to make her allow a little more, she basically threatens you with the old chain.
  15. >Alas, such is the way of the Changeling Queen.
  16. >Apparently.
  17. >The door suddenly bursts open and Chrysalis trots in.
  18. >Followed by a few changelings.
  19. >She stops and looks at you.
  20. >And her bed.
  21. >A brief moment of staring goes by.
  22. >Then she ignores you and walks over to her bookshelf, skimming through the titles of her books.
  23. >”We’re going to the library.”
  24. >The changelings, you see there’s six of them, take up places by the door.
  25. “The library?”
  26. >You didn’t know there was one.
  27. >”Yes, the library.”
  28. “Why?”
  29. >”Because I’m tired of not being able to find anything about you.”
  30. >Wait, she’s been studying you?
  31. ”I already told you where I’m from.”
  32. >You did, really.
  33. >Back when you were chained to the wall.
  34. >”Don’t give me that inter-dimensional nonsense again.”
  35. >Although she believed none of it.
  36. >And when the topic was quickly dropped, you thought that was the end of it.
  37. >Surprise, surprise. Apparently.
  38. “What would bringing me to your library help?”
  39. >You still can’t read anything.
  40. >”I want to know what you can read. What you know about. What region you’re from.”
  41. >You frown.
  42. >She’s taking her suspicions pretty seriously.
  43. >This could be either silly or bad.
  44. “If you can’t find anything about me, doesn’t that just show you I’ve been telling the truth?”
  45. >She turns around and gives you an irritated look.
  46. >”No. Just because you’re rare doesn’t mean any foalish story about ‘planets’ and other worlds is true.”
  47. >Well, bummer.
  48. >She’s being stubborn.
  49. >Again.
  50. >The changelings by the door exchange looks.
  51. “The princesses believed me.”
  52. >And holy shit did they enjoy the opportunity to learn about other planes of existence.
  53. >The endless questions…
  54. >A smug expression decorates Chrysalis' face.
  55. >”They’re only princesses.”
  56. >Of course she’d say something like that.
  57. “Yeah, you’re obviously so much better.”
  58. >Two ponies totally didn’t wipe the floor with your entire army.
  59. >Her smugness fades for a moment.
  60. >But then she smiles wolfishly.
  61. >”Exactly. And that is something you’d never forget, correct?”
  62. >She takes a few slow steps towards you with that malicious smile.
  63. >Oh come on!
  64. >Stop trying to make reminders about your imprisonment here.
  65. >… Hm…
  66. “Maybe. It all depends…”
  67. >She gives you a surprised look.
  68. >Ha! You’re not bullied that easily.
  69. >You notice the changelings stare at your exchange with the Queen.
  70. >You feel pretty daring, but decide to try something.
  71. “Is a queen more generous than simple princesses?”
  72. >She rolls her eyes.
  73. >”You’re not leaving.”
  74. >Damn it!
  75. “Why not?!”
  76. >”Because I want you here.”
  77. “Why?”
  78. >”Because I keep my things here.”
  79. “Why?”
  80. >”Because this is my personal chamber.”
  81. “Why?”
  82. >She opens her mouth, but then glares at you.
  83. >Yeah, you’re starting to feel a little stupid too.
  84. >Okay, no more kiddy techniques.
  85. >You hear a changeling giggle by the door.
  86. >He’s silenced by a harsh glance from Chrysalis.
  87. >”No more of this. We’re going to the library.”
  88. “You won’t learn anything.”
  89. >”We’ll see about that.”
  90. “No, I’m pretty serious.”
  91. >”As am I. “
  92. >She gives you a look that quite clearly says ‘end of discussion’.
  93. >In her irritable state, you don’t dare push things further.
  94.
  95. >Like most other things in Chrysalis’ city-castle-hive, you expected the library to be enormous.
  96. >You’ve already seen the one in Canterlot Castle, which was a very respectable size.
  97. >This is pretty similar.
  98. >The biggest difference is the height of the bookshelves.
  99. >These are honestly really tall.
  100. >Then again, you’ve yet to see a changeling that can’t fly.
  101. >You’re placed in the center, surrounded by rows of stuffed bookshelves, by a wide table.
  102. >A couple of changelings are fetching books and placing them on the table for Chrysalis’ perusal.
  103. >Chrysalis shows you a map of Equestria.
  104. >… and then some?
  105. >Curiosity sparks.
  106. >You pick up the old paper and look it over properly.
  107. >Everything is drawn with simple black. Ink, you assume.
  108. >And you recognize Equestria, of course.
  109. >You’ve seen maps of it plenty of times before.
  110. >But that’s only one of the continents on this map.
  111. “Hey…”
  112. >Chrysalis looks at you.
  113. “What’s all this?”
  114. >The northern Crystal Empire is depicted in detail, along with other landmasses both to the north and south that you have no clue what are.
  115. >”It’s a map.”
  116. >Duh.
  117. “I mean, what’s all this besides Equestria.”
  118. >She frowns.
  119. >”Equestria isn’t the whole world.”
  120. >Well, yeah.
  121. >You had figured as much even before seeing this.
  122. “Can I get names for this stuff?”
  123. >She raises an eyebrow.
  124. >And says nothing.
  125. >You look at her.
  126. “What?”
  127. >”You’re trying hard.”
  128. >Now you frown.
  129. >Her stubborn suspicions are getting annoying.
  130. >A changeling suddenly drops a heavy book right next to you.
  131. >He gives you a weird look before flying off again.
  132. >Huh?
  133. ”Wha-“
  134. >”Open the book.”
  135. >Chrysalis looks at you rather calmly.
  136. >You obey, and open it to its first page.
  137. >Skimming over its writings…
  138. >Well, the system doesn’t look entirely nonsensical like some of the stuff you saw back in Chrysalis’ room.
  139. >But no. This shit is gibberish to you.
  140. “I don’t know what this is.”
  141. >”Of course you don’t.”
  142. >Oh for the love of…!
  143. “Do you have a pen and paper?”
  144. >You decide to show her something.
  145. >Chrysalis gives you a suspicious look.
  146. >You look back calmly, despite your growing annoyance.
  147. >With a wave of her hoof, a changeling is sent to fetch what you asked.
  148. >The changeling mare brings you parchment and quill.
  149. >And a bottle of ink, luckily.
  150. >Dipping the quill, you write a message in your own native language: Good ol’ English.
  151. >’You fucking cunt.’
  152. >After setting the final dot, you hand the parchment to Chrysalis.
  153. >With a confused look and a glowing horn, she takes it and reads it.
  154. >Or tries to.
  155. >She’s visibly perplexed.
  156. >It’s, admittedly, a pleasing sight.
  157. >She spends a few moments studying the letters.
  158. >You allow it and just watch her in silence.
  159. >You guess she’s trying to compare it to common Equestrian.
  160. >Or some other language. She seems to know quite a few.
  161. >”… What does it say?”
  162. >Probably shouldn’t tell.
  163. “So it’s unlike anything else you’ve seen before?”
  164. >As she looks at you, her eyes display a mix of acknowledgement and resentment.
  165. >You take it as a ‘yes’.
  166. “Good.”
  167. >She magically puts the paper down.
  168. >And stares at it.
  169. >She’s thinking.
  170. >It looks like some important pieces of a puzzle are coming together in her head.
  171. >About time, you think.
  172. >”How can you be from another world?”
  173. >You shrug.
  174. >Hell if you know, honestly.
  175. >It’s not like you came here willingly.
  176. >Another changeling comes flying with its buzzing wings, dumping a book on the growing stack on the table next to Chrysalis.
  177. >”That’s enough.”
  178. >With a lazy wave of her hoof she dismisses the minion.
  179. >Her former frustration and irritability seems to become replaced with a sense of defeat.
  180. >She turns back to you.
  181. >”How did you get here?”
  182. >You shrug again.
  183. “It just sort of happened.”
  184. >Chrysalis stares at you with very, very obvious disbelief.
  185. “It’s true!”
  186. >It is.
  187. >Maybe it was some sort rare natural phenomenon that sucked you into Equestria.
  188. >But one day you were just suddenly there.
  189. “I don’t know what happened. But ‘pop!’ and I was in Equestria.”
  190. >Chrysalis still looks like you’re full of shit.
  191. ”I’m serious. I didn’t make it happen, it happened on its own. Out of my control.”
  192. >You put your hands up defensively.
  193. >For emphasis.
  194. >Her disbelief eventually seems to turns to weariness.
  195. >”Alright.”
  196. >She looks disappointed.
  197. >You get the feeling it’s not just about your lack of an explanation, but the situation as a whole.
  198. >Then again, she was pretty stubborn about not believing you.
  199. >Now you give her a weird look.
  200. ”I thought you’d already accepted all this, though.”
  201. >She’d already called you ‘unique’ before.
  202. >Didn’t that mean…?
  203. >Chrysalis raises an eyebrow at you.
  204. >”Why?”
  205. “You already thought I was unique.”
  206. >She taps her chin with a hoof while thinking.
  207. >”Oh, that.”
  208. >And then she smiles.
  209. >A playful, wicked smile.
  210. >”I was just playing with you.”
  211. >Oh really?
  212. >Way to have that come back and bite you in the ass.
  213. >You smile at her.
  214. ”So much for playing.”
  215. >”Yes.”
  216. >She looks at you.
  217. >Really LOOKS at you.
  218. >… It’s a little creepy.
  219. “Something wrong?”
  220. >”Hm…”
  221. >Oh no, what now?
  222. “What?”
  223. >”You know, it seems I was wrong about you.”
  224. >Well, duh.
  225. >A smile appears across her face.
  226. >Her sharp teeth are bared as it slowly grows into a grin.
  227. >Uh oh.
  228. “Obviously. So?”
  229. >She giggles softly.
  230. >”When I first stole you from the princesses, I thought I had snatched an exotic individual.”
  231. >Okay?
  232. >She gets up from her seat.
  233. >Starts walking around the table, coming closer.
  234. >”I assumed you were from one of the more rare tribes of ape from the south.”
  235. >Figures.
  236. >She certainly saw you as an ape, that was already pretty damn clear.
  237. >Her intense stare, coupled with that unnervingly delighted grin, makes you uneasy.
  238. >And she keeps coming closer.
  239. >You stand up and abandon your small chair.
  240. >”You had your odd boasts about being perfectly unique, coming from somewhere outside this world entirely.”
  241. >She chuckles to herself.
  242. >An endearing sound if it wasn’t coming from that scary bughorse.
  243. >”What a claim.”
  244. >You slowly back away while she comes closer.
  245. >”Again, I assumed you had enjoyed too much attention from ponies and decided to maximize your gains.”
  246. >You notice all the paths between the many bookshelves blocked by changelings.
  247. >You can only wander around the table in pointless circles.
  248. >”Little did I know…”
  249. >She leaves the sentence unfinished and tilts her head, looking at you in a way that makes your skin crawl.
  250. >Her utter delight is frightening.
  251. >”And in my foalish stubbornness, you actually tried to enlighten me about your true nature!”
  252. >You keep up your incredibly slow chase around the table.
  253. >Never letting her come too close for comfort while she constantly approaches you.
  254. >She leans forward and speaks softly.
  255. >”It was very sweet of you.”
  256. >Somehow you don’t feel flattered.
  257. >Goddammit, why does she have to be such a scary bitch all the time?!
  258. >”Now, imagine my astonishment…”
  259. >She stands up straight.
  260. >As straight as a quadruped can get, anyway.
  261. >”… when I think I snatch a rare foreign creature. But instead get…”
  262. >Her eyes move down and back up your form.
  263. >She then smiles with unhidden glee.
  264. >”… something much better.”
  265. “Yeah, okay, that’s great, but this is getting weird.”
  266. >You can’t stop yourself from letting her know.
  267. >Because you’re entirely serious.
  268. >Chrysalis stops her walk and laughs.
  269. >Loudly.
  270. >Her wicked laughter resounds through the library.
  271. >She’s enjoying herself a bit more than you like. To say the least.
  272. >And then her focus settles back on you.
  273. >”Don’t be scared! I wouldn’t allow anything bad to happen to my most precious of things.”
  274. >Yeah right.
  275. “Pretty sure we’ve been over this before. You haven’t always been very nice.”
  276. >She just smiles.
  277. >In a sly, ill-intentioned way.
  278. >”My apologies. Perhaps I didn’t fully understand what I was dealing with.”
  279. >This all feels really, really bad.
  280. >Should’ve kept your damn mouth shut and let Chrysalis be an idiot about it.
  281. >”But…”
  282. >She taps her chin with a hoof while giving you a questioning look.
  283. >”What ever could I do with something like you?”
  284. >Her tone isn’t very serious, of course.
  285. “… How about letting me go?”
  286. >Aaaand with all your worry, you go and say something stupid.
  287. >Dumb question, fucktard!
  288. >But Chrysalis only giggles.
  289. >”Oh dear, do you still want to leave? After all this time together.”
  290. >You can’t resist frowning.
  291. >”And now it feels like we’re only just starting to get to know each other properly.”
  292. >Uh, no?
  293. >Maybe Chrysalis is finally getting the hang of what you are.
  294. >Which honestly surprises you. She usually seems smarter than this.
  295. >But you already feel like you understand her nature well enough.
  296. ”I’d honestly prefer to be stuck with someone else.”
  297. >She sighs.
  298. >Overly dramatically.
  299. >”A pity. You’re such an interesting thing and you only want to leave me.”
  300. “Yeah, it’s such a surprise.”
  301. >Chrysalis chuckles.
  302. >”You’ve always amused me, you know.”
  303. >Sure, she’d given you that impression alright.
  304. >Her fangs are bared in another unnerving grin.
  305. >”But now I admit you begin to fascinate me.”
  306. >Wonderful.
  307. >Just wonderful.
  308. “Somehow I’m not all that flattered.”
  309. >”Oh, but you should be! What could be a greater compliment than a Queen’s interest?”
  310. >She gives you a totally-full-of-herself smile.
  311. >Yeah, she’s playing with you.
  312. “I’ve had that for a while now.”
  313. >Her eyes move down as she seems to ponder.
  314. >”… Hm… I suppose so.”
  315. >And she grins again.
  316. >”But now I have even more reason to hold on to you.”
  317. >Your turn to sigh.
  318. >Chrysalis giggles.
  319. >”Don’t fret. You and I can get along just fine when we really try.”
  320. >Maybe.
  321. >You still feel like watching out, though.
