- hi, want to play super metroid with higher quality music? you're in the right place
- how to get the msu-1 hack working in the first place:
- -download the original msu-1 hack + music files: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7cv12pu2xd339cl/Super%20Metroid%20MSU-1.7z?dl=0
- -an sd2snes or higan/bsnes
- -your sd2snes has to be firmware 1.7 or later: https://sd2snes.de/blog/downloads
- -if you're on console, you're done, I included everything, just keep it all in the same folder, put on sd card, enjoy on your sd2snes (sd2snes menu has a "chip settings" thing, if the music is too quiet, you can turn it up in that menu. I wouldn't recommend going over 3.5dbs)
- -if you're on emu, you need the original rom, and the patches below, follow instructions for bsnes or higan below (I haven't used emulator for this personally, so ymmv for the instructions below)
- using higan:
- 1. Patch the ROM
- 2. Launch it using higan
- 3. Go to %USERPROFILE%\Emulation\Super Famicom\mmx_msu1.sfc in Windows Explorer.
- 4. Copy manifest.bml and the .pcm file there
- 5. Run the game
- using bsnes:
- Just patch the ROM and launch the game. The pcm file needs to be in the same folder.
- -you can use the patches I included to add the music to your randomizer rom, or most romhacks:
- 1. get the romhack or randomizer rom
- 2. use lunar ips and the msu-1 rom patch below to patch your randomizer/romhack rom
- 3. rename your rom "supermetroid_msu1.sfc"
- 4. put the rom in the folder with all the .pcm's, and the .msu
- 3. enjoy
- don't like the music choices, or just want to change things up a bit? here's how:
- things you'll need to start:
- audacity: http://www.audacityteam.org/download/
- wav2msu: https://dl.smwcentral.net/4872/wav2msu.zip
- msu-1 rom patches: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mdisar9qlkc1sk1/msu-1%20patches.7z?dl=0
- lunar ips to patch the rom: http://fusoya.eludevisibility.org/lips/download/lips102.zip
- the original super metroid rom: google it
- music indexes: http://pastebin.com/87QxkdZu
- this is what you need to know. all of the tracks in the game correspond to these 30 tracks, you can replace each of them which whatever you want. I haven't labeled them that well, because I haven't messed with all of them, but if you listen to the original tracks, its pretty obvious which ones they are.
- steps to replace the .pcm's:
- 1. have your audio files you want to replace the .pcm with
- 2. open it audacity, edit it to loop how you want it to loop, i.e. edit it to start and stop when you want it to
- 3. save it as an audacity project first, so you can edit it easier later if need be (you'll 99% be likely to need to)
- 4. export it (it exports as a .wav file)
- 5. drag the .wav file onto the wav2msu.exe (it creates a .pcm file)
- 6. rename the .pcm file you created the exact same as the track you're going to replace (see above music index)
- 7. test it in game to be sure it sounds how you want it to sound
- -I recommend patching a rom with total's in game menu so you can teleport around to test tracks more easily
- -its 99% likely that the sound balance is off, return to audacity if it is, and add an amplify effect to lower it or increase the volume
- 8. enjoy
- known bugs/issues:
- 1. getting caught by the big metroid and being drained calls the "return to crateria with pbs track"
- 2. the credits track isn't properly synced
- 3. some of the other tracks aren't properly synced
- 4. maridia is a little too loud
- just gonna copy-paste the credits from the readme from the original msu-1 hack author and add a couple more:
