- Final Fantasy VIII
- Platform: PS1
- Release dates (d.m.y):
- 11.02.1999 (Japan)
- 31.08.1999 (NA)
- 27.10.1999 (PAL)
- Based on: PAL-version (SLES-02080, SLES-12080, SLES-22080, SLES-32080)
- - Successfully Mugging an enemy will prevent the target from dropping
- any items whatsoever (Raijin 2 being the only exception).
- - The enemy can still drop its respective card even if you successfully
- Mug it (Ultima Weapon being a slight exception).
- - Luck increases your evade rate, critical hit rate and the chance to
- surprise the enemy (no effect on the chance to steal).
- - Squall's "critical" hits are not as powerful as the other characters'
- (150% vs. 200%).
- - Once a character's HP is below 30% or so, there's a chance that the
- Limit Break command will become available when you access or "refresh"
- the Command menu. If the character is inflicted with status ailments
- and / or other characters are dead, it's possible to get a Limit Break
- at a somewhat higher HP value. The Aura status allows a character to
- execute Limit Breaks at any HP value.
- - Limit Break skills will take priority in queued actions.
- - Darkness will not prevent Squall from hitting, but instead it disables
- the trigger command.
- - The hit rate of Card is determined by the target's cHP divided by mHP.
- - The hit rate of Devour is determined by the target's mHP, cHP divided
- by mHP, and the user's mHP.
- - LV Up / Down will occasionally miss.
- - New weapon models will show up in the Junk Shop menu as soon as you
- have the necessary materials for a specific weapon, or when you read
- volumes of the Weapons Monthly magazine.
- - Load zone indicators are gone, because, f*ck you, that's why.
- - There is no MP in the game. Instead, spells are quantified. You obtain
- spells by 'Drawing' them from enemies or Draw Points found on the field.
- You can also create them from items using certain Abilities.
- × Drawing power is affected by the character's Magic.
- × Drawing spells from enemies can easily get pretty boring. If you go
- down the item route, you won't have to do that anywhere near as much.
- If you prefer to use Draw for whatever reason, don't forget to use the
- Lv Up Command Ability to gain access to better spells.
- - There are 49 different spells in the game. Each character can carry
- up to 32 different spells, with at most 100 each. You can freely move
- spells between characters and even delete them.
- - Leveling up produces very minimal stat gains in FF8. Instead, you're
- primarily supposed to rely on the Junction system to increase your stats.
- This system involves 'Junctioning' spells to specific stats or attributes.
- The stats and attributes available for Junctioning are determined by the
- Abilities of the character's equipped GF.
- - Summon monsters are called GF (Guardian Force) this time around. There
- are 16 GF in total (plus a few special ones that you can't equip). Most
- GF are obtained by Drawing them from bosses or by defeating a boss. GF
- will learn new Abilities as you gain AP from battles. Most Abilities can
- also be taught using items, though they're generally not easy to come by.
- Each GF can have at most 22 Abilities. You can delete Abilities by using
- the item Amnesia Greens (bought for 1000 gil).
- × By default, each GF will indeed learn 22 Abilities. Not all of these
- Abilities are on the list at first, though, as they need to be unlocked
- by learning some other Ability (eg. learning Str +20% unlocks Str +40%).
- If there are no free slots when an Ability is unlocked, that Ability
- is lost.
- × GF also gain xp, and there are a few Abilities that require the GF
- to reach a certain level.
- × You can buy basic stat Junction scrolls in Timber (10k each) once you
- have Tonberry's Familiar ability.
- × Hit-J is the only Junction ability that can't be taught with an item.
- × GF can also be summoned during battle, but the animations are quite
- lengthy, and the damage is pretty modest at low levels. As such, there's
- no reason to use them in a low level playthrough (I wouldn't use them
- either way). If you never use summons, you'll have no use for the Sum
- Mag + and GF HP + Abilities. You won't need Boost either, but that one
- can't be taught with an item, so you might want to hang on to it.

- - There are no treasure chests.
- - Enemies don't drop any money. Initially, your main source of income
- is your SeeD salary that you'll automatically receive periodically. It
- should be enough on Disc 1. On Disc 2, however, you gain access to an
- Ability that allows you to amass millions of gil with little time and
- effort (and you'll need it if you want to max out some of your stats).
- × Your salary is determined by your SeeD level. Many of your actions
- and choices throughout the game will have an impact on your SLv. In
- a low level playthrough, you'll miss out on the single most common
- positive force on your SLv: killing enemies (by taking their HP to 0).
- This shouldn't be a problem, however, and I would advise you not to
- mind your SLv.
- - Because enemies' stats are scaled based on your party's level, creating
- the strongest possible party involves keeping your levels as low as
- possible. You can avoid gaining Exp by:
- 1. Running away
- 2. Morphing / Devouring
- 3. Casting Break
- 4. Using LV Down
- 5. Equipping Enc-None
- 6. Having only one PC alive at the end of a battle
- 7. Using TPCs (Seifer and Edea)
- - If you get ambushed, it takes quite a long while to run away.
- - Morphing will be your primary method of nullifying xp (when you're
- actually fighting something and not using Enc-None), so try to get good
- at it. If you're not focusing, it's really easy to lose count of the
- damage you've dealt, so don't hesitate to use Scan (again) if you're
- not sure if you can weaken the enemy further.
- - If you have completionist tendencies, you could also consider trying
- to obtain as many of the 198 different items in the game as you can (as
- in, at least one of each).
- × 2 Unique items will be lost, as they're needed for GF. 4 items are
- PocketStation exclusive (Mog's Amulet, Chocobo's Tag, Friendship,
- Ribbon).
- × You'll likely need to use Angelo Search for the following 4 items:
- Jet Engine, Hero-Trial, Gold Armor, Hungry Cookpot. I don't bother
- with these myself.
- - Here are some key points:
- Disc 1
- - Learn Card (20 AP from Ifrit, the rest with Seifer in Dollet).
- - Learn Enc-None.
- - Get 100 Tornado spells for at least one character and a few dozens
- of Break by playing cards. At the same time, you should obtain some
- other useful Magic (Confuse, Haste, Meltdown, Pain, Death, Regen,
- Curaga, Berserk). After this, Triple Triad will be mostly optional.
- Disc 2
- - Leech Ultima spells at Shumi Village.
- - Complete the CC Group side quest.
- - Get GF Tonberry.
- - Steal 100 Curse Spikes from the Tri-Faces at the main hall of Galbadia
- Garden (if collecting items).
- Disc 3
- - Build up Siren to Lv100 with Edea.
- - Steal more Curse Spikes from the Tri-Faces at the Deep Sea Deposit if
- needed.
- - Obtain the last remaining GF.
- - Finish your spell collection with the help of the Draw Points at
- Heaven and Hell.
- - Clean up the TT rules in Centra.
- - Create loads of stat boost items (HP Up, Str Up, Spr Up) by refining
- [Stat]+40% items.
- Disc 4
- - Create Vit Ups by repeatedly winning back the Minotaur Card from Joker.
- - More stat boosting if needed.

- ---- Disc 1 ----
- Party: Squall Lv7 (6500xp)
- GF: Quezacotl, Shiva \\\ B-Garden- Classroom ||
- Initial stats (Squall): 486 HP, 17 Str, 6 Vit, 6 Mag, 5 Spr, 21 Spd,
- 16 Luck, 1% Eva, 255% Hit
- Inventory: 6 Potions, 4 Phoenix Downs, 2 Remedies, 5 Tents and 5000 Gil
- Default weapon (Squall): Revolver
- - Now would be a good time to customize the settings through the
- configuration menu.
- - Examine the monitor at Squall's desk and choose Tutorial.
- - "Equip" Squall with Shiva, and save Quetzalcoatl for Quistis. Also make
- sure Shiva is learning Str-J, and Quezacotl is going for Card. You can
- change these through the Guardian Force menu.
- - Squall's Limit Break, Renzokuken, allows you to hit an enemy multiple
- times, although the hit count may vary (4-8 + finisher). Upgrading his
- weapon gives him access to new finishing moves.
- \\\ B-Garden- 2F Hallway ||
- - Talk to the man near the elevator to receive a bunch of Level 1 cards.
- I wouldn't bother playing Triple Triad until you have some better cards.
- \\\ B-Garden- Hall ||
- - Examine the computer screen near the save point, and you can fast-travel
- to various locations within the Garden. You can only use this on Disc 1.
- - I recommend against venturing into the Training facility at the moment.
- \\\ B-Garden- Quad ||
- - Talk to Selphie, and you'll be given the option to help her out with
- the Garden Festival. Choose the dialog options 'Interested' and 'Sure.'
- Item: Occult Fan I \\\ B-Garden- Library ||
- Draw: Esuna (low res, no rec)
- Draw: Cure \\\ B-Garden - Front Gate ||
- PC: Quistis Lv8
- Initial stats (Quistis): 501 HP, 19 Str, 5 Vit, 6 Mag, 6 Spr, 20 Spd,
- 15 Luck, 1% Eva, 103% Hit
- Default weapon (Quistis): Chain Whip
- - Quistis' Limit Break is Blue Magic. There are 16 Enemy Skills in
- total (she starts with one: Laser Eye). She can learn more by using
- certain items.
- Party: Squall Lv7, Quistis Lv8 \\\ Balamb- Alcauld Plains ||
- Draw: Cure, Blizzard, Esuna (high res, high rec)
- - I should remind you that you are not to attack enemies during battles.
- Drawing spells is recommended, however. Stock up with a decent supply
- of Scan and Blizzard, a max supply of Cure and Thunder and a small
- supply of Sleep.
- - Check a map to find the invisible Draw Points.
- - A draw point with high resistance (high res) produces a small yield.
- High recovery (high rec) means that it only takes a short amount of time
- before the draw point can be used again.
- - Notice that you will not run into random encounters on the paved road.
- Lost & Found: Ifrit Card (Ifrit) \\\ Fire Cavern ||
- GF: Ifrit
- Boss: Ifrit
- - Recheck that your GF are learning the right Abilities when you reach
- the area where the music stops.
- [Boss]
- - 20 AP
- - Regarding Ifrit's Abilities, give F Mag-RF, HP-J and Str+20% priority.
- PC: Zell \\\ BGarden- Dormitory Double ||
- TPC: Seifer
- - Examine Squall's bed and choose to get changed.
- \\\ Balamb Harbor ||
- Initial stats (Zell): 544 HP, 19 Str, 5 Vit, 6 Mag, 4 Spr, 21 Spd,
- 15 Luck, 1% Eva, 98% Hit
- Default weapon (Zell): Metal Knuckle
- - Zell's Limit Break, Duel, allows you to hit the enemy multiple times
- by inputting commands for various attacks, similar to Blitz / Hissatsuwaza
- from FF6. He has access to all moves from the get-go, although half of
- these moves won't be visible until you find certain editions of the Combat
- King magazine.
- Special: Timber Maniacs #1a \\\ Balamb Hotel ||
- - Any of the twelve volumes of the Timber Maniacs you may find will not
- actually show up in the inventory.
- - There's an item shop near the train station, so go check it out if
- you're worried about supplies. You'll probably find the Junk Shop as well,
- but I'll completely ignore weapon upgrades until halfway through Disc 2.
- Party: Squall, Zell, Seifer, [Quistis] \\\ Dollet- Lapin Beach ||
- - Equip Squall with Shiva, Zell with Quezacotl, and Seifer with Ifrit.
- Give Seifer something to boost his Strength.
- \\\ Dollet- Town Square ||
- [Fixed Encounter001: 2× G-Soldiers] (208xp)
- - Unless you've managed to obtain some Break spells, you'll need to
- kill off Squall and Zell so that they won't gain any Exp. Keep in mind,
- though, that their GF *will* gain both xp and AP.
- [Fixed Encounter002: 2× G-Soldiers] (150xp)
- [Fixed Encounter003: G-Soldier] (104xp)
- [Fixed Encounter004: G-Soldier] (104xp)
- - Random encounters will be activated once you reach the bridge. At this
- point, your main objectives are:
- 1. Learn Card (then move to Card Mod)
- 2. Build up Ifrit to Level 10 (4500xp), at which point the Abilities
- Mad Rush and Ammo-RF are unlocked.
- 3. Keep Seifer in your party until #1 and #2 have been completed. He
- leaves your party when you reach the third Mountain Hideout area.
- PC: Selphie \\\ Dollet- Mountain Hideout ||
- Lost & Found: 2× Dragon Skin (Anacondaur - Rare)
- Initial stat (Selphie): 482 HP, 18 Str, 5 Vit, 10 Mag, 7 Spr, 17 Spd,
- 19 Luck, 1% Eva, 98% Hit
- Default weapon (Selphie): Flail
- [Fixed Encounter005: Anacondaur]
- - Things may get messy when fighting two Anacondaurs at a time. Don't
- hesitate to run away if you think you don't have enough time to use
- Red Cross - No Mercy three times or so.
- - Heal your party after Seifer leaves; you'll be revived with 1 HP.
- Any spells Seifer had will be transferred to Selphie.
- - Selphie's Limit Break, Slot, allows her to cast a random spell,
- possibly multiple times. This gives her exclusive access to four special
- spells: Full-Cure, Wall, Rapture and The End. However, at her default
- level, you'll only ever see Full-Cure and, rarely, Wall. Not a big deal.
- Party: Squall Lv7, Zell Lv8, Selphie Lv8 \\\ Dollet- Comm Tower ||
- Draw: Esuna (Biggs 1), Protect (X-ATM092), Siren GF (Elvoret)
- Lost & Found: Weapons Mon Mar (Elvoret)
- Bosses: Biggs 1 (+ Wedge 1) & Elvoret (separate phases), X-ATM092
- - Squall: Shiva; Zell: Ifrit; Selphie: Quezacotl.
- [Boss]
- - 14 / 18 AP in total
- - If your Magic is too low, you'll have a very hard time Drawing Esuna.
- - Make sure you Draw Siren from Elvoret.
- - Keep Squall in critical condition so you can execute Renzokuken every turn.
- - Note: You *cannot* pause the game on the field once you've stepped out
- of the tower and fought X-ATM for the first time.
- [Boss]
- - (50 AP)
- - After hacking X-ATM enough, you will be advised to run. Do so unless
- you're powerful enough to take out its HP before the repairs are complete.
- - All future encounters with the machine can be avoided, assuming you're
- fast and witty enough.
- - 092 will jump over you at the bridge, at which point you just need to
- run back until it jumps over you again, allowing you to pass though the
- area unharmed.
- - At the central square, you should "talk" to the dog while you're running
- through.
- - Having obtained the ability to morph enemies into Cards, you can now
- build up your GF without gaining levels. Finishing up the story events
- in the Garden first isn't a bad idea, however.
- \\\ B-Garden- Hall ||
- - Trigger an event centering around Seifer in the eastern lobby before
- proceeding to the 2F Hallway.
- Special: Battle Meter \\\ B-Garden - Headmaster's Office ||
- - Talk to Cid to receive the Battle Meter, which can be viewed through
- the menu (Tutorial, Information, Information, Battle Report).
- \\\ B-Garden- 2F Hallway ||
- - The test results determine your starting SeeD level. It's really not
- that important.
- \\\ B-Garden- Dormitory Double ||
- - If you haven't joined the Garden Festival committee yet, Selphie will
- ask you to in the Ballroom.
- PC: Quistis \\\ B-Garden- Hallway ||
- - Set up your skills and GF etc.
- Draw: Protect (Raldo), Shell (Granaldo) \\\ B-Garden- Training Center ||
- Cards: Shumi Tribe (Grat, T-Rexaur)
- Boss(es): Granaldo & 3× Raldos
- - Trigger an event by entering the area north from the save point.
- [Boss]
- - 14 AP in total
- Item: Weapons Mon Apr \\\ B-Garden- Dormitory Single ||
- - Check the table to find Weapons Monthly, April Issue. As I already
- mentioned, you do *not* need the magazines in order to upgrade your
- weapons.
- Item: Magical Lamp (Unique, Temp) \\\ B-Garden- Front Gate ||
- PCs: Selphie, Zell
- - Talk to Cid to receive the Magical Lamp. Using it triggers a boss
- battle you may not yet be prepared for.
- GF: Diablos \\\ Any location ||
- Lost & Found: Diablos Card (Diablos)
- Draw: Demi (Diablos)
- Boss: Diablos
- [Boss]
- - Diablos has 6400 HP (at Level 7) and is worth 20 AP
- - Draw-Cast Demi with Selphie (Quetzalcoatl)
- - Use Renzokuken and looped Duel (eg. Punch Rush, Booya, repeat) as
- often as possible
- - If you just can't do it, try again later with some Tornado in your stock.
- Party: Squall Lv7, Selphie Lv8, Zell Lv8
- \\\ Balamb- Alcauld Plains ||
- Card: Elvoret (Bite Bug), Trauma (Caterchipillar), Jumbo Cactuar (Glacial Eye)
- - Before going on a Triple Triad frenzy, you could take the time to
- morph some enemies into (possibly rare) cards. In case you haven't
- tested this yet, just weaken the enemy to below 50% mHP or so, and
- then fire away with the Card command. Make good use of the Scan spell.
- - Always use Squall to weaken the target since you can control his critical
- hits. That is, unless you're certain that the other characters' attacks
- won't kill the enemy.
- Card: Krysta (Buel, Bomb), [X-ATM092] (Red Bat) \\\ Fire Cavern ||
- - De-equip any Strength boosts before attempting to weaken any Buels.
- Alternatively, have a character with low Magic Draw-Cast Fire.
- - You can create 10 Holy spells from a single Krysta card. On the other
- hand, it's also pretty decent when playing Triple Triad.
- - Stay away from the Red Bats, as I seriously doubt your ability to weaken
- them without instantly killing them in the process.
- \\\ Rinauld Coast ||
- - This area is highly recommended when in need of Abilities. A single
- Fastitocalon (F) is worth 3 AP, and they always appear in groups of two.
- Unfortunately, they can only be morphed into Fastitocalon-F cards.
- They also seem to be resistant to Scan; you can see their level, but
- not their HP. In any case, you can get 100 AP in about 30 minutes.
- - Aim for all the menu Abilities (Mid Mag-RF, Card Mod, etc) for now.
- Playing Triple Triad and using these Abilities allows you to obtain
- some pretty powerful spells.
- \\\ Balamb- Town Square ||
- - Save the game and then locate the Queen of Cards near the item shop.
- Challenge her to a game of cards. If the Trade Rule Diff (or All) pops
- up, opt to quit, and go challenge someone else (the girl at the gas
- station, for instance) to make sure it spreads. You won't actually see
- a message saying 'Trading Rule Diff has spread out through this region'
- or anything like that, though. If the Queen offers some other Trade Rule,
- reset and try again. The one Trade Rule you need to avoid at all costs
- is Direct.
- - Once you've obtained the Trade Rule of your liking, start beating
- people up (with cards). The mini-game is *very* simple (a higher value
- beats a lower value), so you shouldn't have trouble getting the hang of
- it. The easiest way to win is to play defensively until the very end.
- - WARNING: Challenging the crouching guy at the harbor will erase any
- and all rules in the Balamb region. Just stay away from him unless you
- know what you're doing.
- - The Trade Rule will revert back to One occasionally, but this seems
- to be only temporary.
- Cards: Zell (Mrs. Dincht) \\\ Balamb- The Dincht's ||
- Cards: Seifer (Headmaster Cid) \\\ B-Garden- Headmaster's Office ||
- Cards: MiniMog (kid in blue shirt) \\\ B-Garden- Hall(way) ||
- Cards: Quistis (Trepe Groupie #1, #2, or #3) \\\ B-Garden- Cafeteria ||
- - Naturally, you can only get one Quistis card even though 3 people use it.
- - The following cards take priority (spells): Abyss Worm (Tornado),
- Cockatrice (Break), Grat; Buel; Jelleye (Haste), Gayla (Meltdown),
- Forbidden (Confuse), Imp; Vysage; Turtapod (Curaga), Elastoid (Berserk),
- Mesmerize (Regen), Tri-Face (Pain).
- - Other useful cards (items): Elnoyle (Energy Crystal), Iron Giant
- (Star Fragment), Malboro (Malboro Tentacle), Bomb (Bomb Fragment),
- Cactuar (Cactus Thorn).
- \\\ Balamb- Town Square ||
- - Save and go challenge the Queen. If a Trade Rule other than Diff or
- One pops up, reset. Sometimes asking her about the "current trend in
- trade rules" first helps. Anyway, that's just part one. Next,
- intentionally lose your MiniMog card to her (you can get it back
- later) and talk to her afterwards. If she says she's heading to a
- location other than Dollet, reset. Keep trying until she chooses to
- go to Dollet (and doesn't throw stuff like Direct at you). Doing this
- will allow you to get the Kiros card when you catch up with her.
- × There are a few other cards that require you to lose specific cards
- to the Queen. It's a bit of a pain, so if you don't feel like going
- through the trouble, you really don't have to. You can still get these
- cards and any other rare cards you may have missed on Disc 4.
- Spell check
- - 100 Tornado, at least 50 Break (in addition to Cockatrice Pinions, you
- can also get Break from Soft). You'll likely be able to create some other
- useful spells as well, but these two are the minimum requirements.
- Ability check
- - Enc-None. I'd also recommend getting ab. 100 AP for Mug, but I guess
- it's not crucial.
- Card check
- - Seifer, Zell, Quistis and a couple of boss cards would be nice too.
- - Once you feel prepared, approach the train conductor and fork out
- 3000 Gil to cover the fare.
- Item: Pet Pals Vol 1 \\\ Train ||
- Party: Laguna, Ward, Kiros \\\ Timber Forest ||
- - Better test out that Enc-None of yours.
- Party: Squall Lv7 (6500xp), Selphie Lv8 (7000xp), Zell Lv8 (7000xp)
- \\\ Timber- City Square ||
- - Selphie and Zell will need to re-equip their GF.
- Item: Pet Pals Vol 2 \\\ Timber- Forest Owls' Base ||
- Cards: Angelo (Watts)
- Default regional rules (Galbadia): Same
- PC: Rinoa Lv11
- Initial stats (Rinoa): 653 HP, 22 Str, 5 Vit, 15 Mag, 9 Spr, 22 Spd,
- 17 Luck, 1% Eva, 99% Hit
- Default weapon (Rinoa): Pinwheel
- - Triple Triad's about to get more tricky now. Go save the game in the
- second screen, and then challenge Watts. Agree to mix the rules and then
- quit. "The Open rule has spread throughout this region" is what you want
- to hear. If he stops asking about mixing the rules before this happens,
- reset.
- - Unfortunately, thanks to one of Rinoa's Limit Breaks, I'd advice you
- to never keep her in your party unless no other choice is given; Angelo
- Rush will activate randomly even at max HP, potentially resulting in
- Exp. I'd more than likely replace Zell from my standard party with her
- if it weren't for that.
- - In case you're still determined to use her, here's some info on her
- (and Angelo's) Limit Break skills. They're actually divided into two
- categories (even though they are all listed in the same window in the
- Status screen):
- 1. Counterattacks -> Angelo Rush (default), Angelo Recover (Pet Pals Vol 2),
- Angelo Reverse (Pet Pals Vol 4), Angelo Search (Pet Pals Vol 5).
- Recover, Reverse and Search are harmless, and learning them will
- probably decrease the chances of Rush.
- 2. Normal Limit command -> Angelo Cannon (default), Angelo Strike
- (Pet Pals Vol 1), Invincible Moon (Pet Pals Vol 3), Wishing Star
- (Pet Pals Vol 6). One of these will be randomly executed (assuming
- you've learnt it) upon using the Combine Limit Break. Unfortunately,
- you cannot increase Wishing Star's activation rate by skipping Angelo
- Strike and Invincible Moon. You can, however, increase the activation
- rate of Invincible Moon by not learning Wishing Star. Apparently,
- all four skills are present when you call for Angelo, but if you
- roll a skill you haven't learnt, you'll go "down the ladder."
- - A sound will tell you once a skill has been learnt. Rinoa must be
- in the active party for Angelo to gain AP.
- - After the briefing, head back to Rinoa's cabin to find Pet Pals Vol 2.
- \\\ Timber- Train ||

- Boss(es): Fake President & Gerogero (separate phases)

- PCs: Rinoa, Quistis \\\ Timber- Residence ||
- Items: Potion, Phoenix Down, Soft, Antidote, Remedy
- - I advice against disembarking at the East Academy Station. Head all
- the way to Dollet instead.
- \\\ Dollet- Hasberry Plains ||
- Cards: Mobile Type 8 (Anacondaur), Sphinxara (Adamantoise),
- Jumbo Cactuar (Wendigo)
- Theft: Whisper (Adamantoise)
- - Geezards are somewhat difficult to weaken, so be careful. On the other
- hand, they can't be morphed into rare cards, either.
- - Look for Adamantoises on the beach if you're not intimidated by the
- low encounter rate. You can create 50 Curaga spells from a single Whisper.
- They also rarely drop the item, but by the time that happens, you'll
- likely already have learnt Mug. Triple digit Strength is highly recommended,
- as they possess a colossal Vitality value and the ability to completely
- heal their HP with White Wind.
- \\\ Dollet- Town Square ||
- Default regional rules (Dollet): Random, Elemental
- - If you're still into cards, let's fix up the rules here. Start by
- saving the game.
- - Challenge the salesclerk renting cars and quit. Now, there are several
- messages you may get afterwards, but the ones we're looking for are:
- × "The 'Open' rule has spread throughout this region."
- × "The 'Elemental' rule was abolished from this region."
- × "The 'Random' rule was abolished from this region."
- - If you get another message, reset. If she stops asking about mixing
- the rules before you get one these messages, reset.
- - Once you succeed, run back to Timber.
- - You can start the Obel Lake side quest now, but you can't complete it.
- \\\ Timber- City Square ||
- - Challenge the guard on the left at the entrance. Refuse to play a
- mixed rule game until he / she stops asking about it. Now check that
- the rules are Open and Same, and quit (or play if you want).
- - If you talk to the guy in front of Timber Maniacs building and
- encourage him to become a journalist, you'll get a Pet Nametag on Disc 2.
- Special: Timber Maniacs #3 \\\ Timber Hotel ||
- - Stay at the hotel to find another Tim Mani. Now, run back to Dollet.
- \\\ Dollet- Town Square ||
- - Do the same thing as before: save, mix, quit. Notice that you can
- never abolish *all* the rules in a region. Assuming you made some
- progress, run back to Timber again.
- \\\ Timber- City Square ||
- - Once again, challenge the guard until the option to mix the rules no
- longer appears. Don't forget that afterwards, you will need to challenge
- someone and at least 'quit.' (Doing so will make the Same rule "stick"
- with you)
- \\\ Dollet- Town Square ||
- - You know the drill. There should only be either Random or Elemental
- left. Once only Open (and the Trade Rule, of course) remains, it's
- mission accomplished. In any case, cards aren't the only reason to
- come here.
- - Abolishing all the unwanted rules from all regions is a very time-
- consuming process. Since it's already fairly tedious to create all
- those stat boost items (on Disc 3/4), I can't blame you if you'd rather
- not do it. It's not even necessary for boosting your stats. It's really
- more of a completionist thing. The one exception is Centra. At the very
- least, you should fix the rules in Centra, since that's the one Joker
- uses. You can still do that on Disc 4, so there's no rush. As for getting
- a complete card collection, you could certainly do that even without
- manipulating the rules. It's a little trickier, but it's not too bad.
- Special: Timber Maniacs #4 \\\ Dollet Hotel ||
- \\\ Dollet Pub ||
- Items: Occult Fan II, n× Potions, n× Antidotes, n× Soft, n× Phoenix Downs
- Cards: 5 + n× Geezard, 4× Red Bat, 3× Buel, 2× Anacondaur, Cactuar,
- Siren (pub owner)
- Special: Timber Maniacs #5
- - There's a hidden save point here, so equip Move-Find if you have it.
- - Talk to the Queen and inquire about her artist father to find out
- what happened to your MiniMog. Challenge her if you wish to f*ck up
- (or change) the trading rule.
- - Challenge the guy near her (the one who has hair). If you beat him,
- he'll let you come into his private room. Keep playing with him until
- you win the Siren card.
- - Examine the pile of magazines repeatedly to eventually find 3 items
- (such as the second volume of the Occult Fan). You can get 3 more items
- every time you refresh the area.
- Cards: MiniMog (Queen's son) \\\ Dollet- Residence ||
- Items: (Potion, Phoenix Down, Soft)* \\\ Dollet- Town Square ||
- - *: Upgraded to X-Potion, Mega-Potion and Elixir in Disc 3
- - The dog you may have saved during the Dollet mission will help you
- find these items.
- \\\ Timber- Yaulny Canyon ||
- Cards: Gargantua (Thrustaevis), Oilboyle (Cockatrice), Elvoret (Ochu)
- Theft: Cockatrice Pinion (Cockatrice)
- Cards: Abadon (Blood Soul) \\\ Timber- Shenand Hill ||
- - Please note that Vysage, Lefty and Righty cannot be morphed. You may
- encounter the trio if you hug the mountains near Winhill.
- - Use Junction-Exchange to equip Selphie and Quistis properly before
- entering the forest near Galbadia Garden.
- \\\ Centra- Excavation Site ||
- Party: Laguna (Squall), Kiros (Selphie), Ward (Quistis)
- [Fixed Encounter007: Esthar Soldier]
- [Fixed Encounter008: 3× Esthar Soldiers]
- - This place is quite tricky so I'll be going through it step-by-step.
- Your actions here determine what items you'll find inside the Lunatic
- Pandora on Disc 3.
- - After the first fixed encounters, take the western path. You'll find
- a Confuse DP and ladders down. Descend. Run around the left side of the
- area until you are given the option to pick something up (Old Key 1 - you
- don't actually get to keep it). Proceed and you should find three hatches
- on the ground. Examine the middle one, and you'll eventually be presented
- with the option of tampering with it. Do so and head east. Return to the
- previous area, and attempt to tamper with the right hatch as well. Now,
- head east past the cross-like area. Move towards the metal objects and
- you should again be given the option to pick something up (Old Key 2 -
- Laguna manages to lose this one as well). Proceed east until you reach the
- area with the Sleep DP again. Take the same path as the first time, so
- you can go tamper with the left hatch (or at least try). Return to the
- "inverse T" area (where you found the second key) and proceed north.
- - Follow the eastern path to find a save sphere. Retrace and take the
- path north. Examine the object near the boulder, which actually turns
- out to be a detonator (the object, not the boulder). Hit the red switch
- first and you should see the left hatch opening as a result of the
- events. The blue one will now take care of the right hatch (in addition
- to some sentries). Proceed north. After passing through the area with
- pink crystals, you'll find yet another boulder. Simply examine it.
- Proceed northeast to find the save point again. Head north.
- [Fixed Encounter009: 2× Esthar Soldiers]
- - These guys are worth 0 xp, so you can safely take them out with brute
- force. Break is ineffective anyway. Assuming you successfully triggered
- all the traps inside the complex, this will be the only battle here.
- Otherwise, you might be facing as many as four more.
- - Recheck your status once you've regained control of your standard party.
- \\\ Galbadia- Monterosa Plateau ||
- Cards: Tri-Point (Belhelmel), Tiamat (Grendel)
- - Both Blood Souls and Belhelmels bomb you with Sleep and Berserk, so
- think twice before challenging them.
- \\\ G-Garden- Classroom ||
- - I'm referring to the classroom on the eastern side. Challenge the girl
- here if you're interested in some Level 6 cards.
- \\\ G-Garden- Clubroom ||
- - We're going to try and fix up Trabia's rules, so save first, then
- challenge the guy in red. Spread Open and abolish Random and Plus
- (listed as Same/Plus).
- × Same means that you'll get a hit if the values facing off are the same.
- × Plus means that you'll get a hit if the values facing off add up to
- the same value.
- × Same-Wall means the walls have a value of 10 / A.
- - In case you forgot, after each successful rule change (except for the
- last one), you need to at least dummy-challenge (ie. agree to play -after-
- the option to mix rules is no longer presented, then quit immediately)
- someone using Galbadia's rules (Open, Same) such as the girl in the
- nearby classroom.
- PCs: Irvine Lv13 \\\ Galbadia Garden- Front Gate ||
- Initial stats (Irvine): 699 HP, 22 Str, 8 Vit, 10 Mag, 7 Spr, 22 Spd,
- 14 Luck, 1% Eva, 105% Hit
- Default weapon (Irvine): Valiant
- - Irvine's Limit Break, Shot, allows you to hit enemies multiple times.
- \\\ G-Garden- Station ||
- - The fare costs 3000 Gil. Traveling to Deling by foot is not possible
- at the moment.
- Special: Timber Maniacs #6 \\\ Deling City- Hotel ||
- Cards: Kiros (man in black) \\\ Deling City- City Square ||
- - If you're looking for the Kiros card (which is only available if
- you gave MiniMog to the Queen, and asked about her father while she was
- in Dollet after that), head for the shopping arcade. (There *are* actually
- shops there, too.)
- - We can now fix some of the rules in Fisherman's Horizon (aka FH).
- Save at the hotel, and then go outside. Just across the street you'll
- see a lady in a green dress. You know what to do (I hope). Spread Open
- and abolish Sudden Death. Don't abolish Elemental. It's mostly harmless,
- and we can use it to abolish rules in other regions.
- - Once you're ready, go speak to the guard in front of Caraway's mansion
- to find out your next destination.
- \\\ Great Plains of Galbadia ||
- Cards: Abadon (Abyss Worm), Red Giant (Chimera)
- Item: Minotaur Card \\\ Tomb of the Unknown King ||
- Lost & Found: Sacred Card (Minotaur)
- Cards: Catoblepas (Armadodo), Granaldo (Blobra), Red Giant (Forbidden)
- GF: Brothers
- Bosses: Sacred, Sacred 2 & Minotaur
- - Every time you move to a new area, the point of view changes so that
- Squall's back is facing the previous area. Random encounters can easily
- mess up your orientation, so better keep that Enc-None equipped at least
- until you've defeated the Brothers. Don't forget that you can view the
- map with Select. In the second area inside the tomb, you'll find the
- code you were sent to retrieve. Now make your way to the eastern room.
- [Boss]
- - 20 AP (assuming he doesn't run away before you can finish the deal)
- - Use the hidden save point here if you like. Next, head for the north
- end. Examine the chains to open the water flow. Now go to the western
- room, and examine the gears. There's a hidden save point here as well.
- And finally, the tomb in the middle. You'll have to enter it from the
- south.

- - Give Brothers to someone other than Squall.
- - Proceed with the story events in Deling if you can't think of anything else.
- Party: Rinoa \\\ Deling- Presidential Residence ||
- - Before climbing up, examine the manhole on the right to descend.
- Item: Weapons Mon May \\\ Deling City- Sewer ||
- - Just head all the way west to find Weapons Monthly, May Issue. You
- can also retrieve this later while controlling either the sniper team
- or the gate team.
- Party: Quistis, Selphie, Zell \\\ Deling City- Sewer ||
- Cards: Sphinxara (Creeps), BGH251F2 (Grand Mantis)
- - Since Squall is out of the picture, weakening enemies will be a bit
- more risky. Plus the enemies here have such variable HP amounts. Grand
- Mantises have more than 5000 HP even at Level 1, Creeps have ab. 300 HP,
- and you should already be familiar with Red Bats (avoid them).
- Party: Squall, Irvine \\\ Deling- Presidential Residence ||

- - Recov Med-RF is one of the vital Menu Abilities used in gaining
- massive amounts of Gil. If you're interested in an extra early Rosetta
- Stone or two, and don't mind playing up to 50 games of Triple Triad
- with Same (or whatever rules you have in Galbadia) against the same guy,
- I suggest you learn this Ability during the next three boss battles,
- which are conveniently worth 30 AP.
- - Examine the hatch at the corridor to reach the carousel.

- - Once you reach the other end of town, check the shop for healing items,

- 1. - "I'll stop him" <---
- - "There's no use"
- 2. - "Just let me die" <---
- - "I'll lie... I must live"
- - You can save the game on Floor 6. You won't find anything on the lower

- a gunblade?") will reoccur if you refresh the area.
- [Fixed Encounter010: 2× Guards]
- - In case you forgot, you can avoid the xp by petrifying them by

- - Enc-None is an excellent idea due to the lack of morph-friendly
- enemies here. Start heading down so you can loot all the cells.
- Floor 5: The guy who plays cards for 500 Gil.
- Floor 4: Tent
- Floor 3: Pet House
- Floor 2: Pet Nametag, Strength Up
- Floor 1: Combat King 001 (not in a box, not in the cell with the save point)
- Floor 8: Shop. From now on, your main source of Gil will be selling
- Mega-Potions. Buy as many Tents as you can, and create these potions
- with Recov Med-RF, then sell them.
- Floor 9: Berserk DP
- Floor 10: Another save point and the guy who can upgrade your Battle Meter.
- Floor 11: Thundaga DP and the guy who plays cards for 200 Gil. This is
- your chance to get Abilityx4 early. Please note that if you have eg.
- 100 Potions, he can still give you as many Potions as he wants. Either
- way, I don't bother myself.
- - Once you find Squall, speak to the Moombas, and they'll remove the
- tiny blockades from the levels of your choice. Set up Zell's skills
- properly, since you're facing a possible encounter with some guards
- if you're not fast enough. Hold down immediately after Zell thinks
- "Tch! I'm outta here!"

- - When you return to the second save point, choose 'Play it cool' and

- - After changing the error ratio on the control panel, save and talk
- to the guard.
- [Fixed Encounter011: Base Leader & 2× Base Soldier]. (396xp)
- - Try as you might, Break will be ineffective. Kill two of your PCs
- before taking out the last remaining enemy. If you kill it indirectly
- (with a GF, for instance), you'll be able to avoid the "kill bonus,"
- and thus gain 30 or so xp less. The difference is insignificant.
- - Set the time limit to either 10 min or 20 min, and you can use a
- shortcut to get to the first save point (which is now gone). If you

- - Your next target, Club, also prefers the hall (the northern side, that

- you'd also receive the Odin Card, but we'll grab it once we get to Disc 4.
- \\\ Balamb- Town Square ||
- - There's an 'event puzzle' you have to complete here. If you're having
- problems, find the Tabloid Guy behind the cars at the harbor. You'll
- have to pay to make him talk, though. In any case, don't forget to rest
- at Zell's place at least once.
- Cards: Pandaemonium (Hotel Owner's Daughter) \\\ Balamb- Residence ||
- - You can get the Pandemona card a little early if you complete the
- side quest focusing on Big, Bad Rascal. At the same time, you'll also
- get the chance to leave town. If you skip it, the card will be on the
- Hotel Owner after you get rid of the Galbadians.
- - Once the guards at the Station Yard have gotten food poisoning, talk
- to the other one repeatedly to make him move out of the way.
- \\\ Balamb Harbor ||
- Theft: 2× Str Ups (Raijin 1), Megalixir / Hero (Fuujin 1), 2×Str Up (Raijin 2)
- Lost & Found: Str Up (Raijin 1), Megalixir (Fuujin 1), Str Up (Raijin 2),
- Combat King 002 (Raijin 2 - Fixed)
- Draw: Pandemona GF (Fuujin 1)
- Bosses: Raijin 1 (& 2× G-Soldiers), Fuujin 1 & Raijin 2

- - 2600 HP. 12 AP in total.
- - No need for Break
- |
- [Boss]
- - 2400 HP (F), 3200 HP (R). 20 AP in total.
- - Read Combat King 002 to "learn" Meteor Strike.
- - Selphie can now join the party once again.
- - At this point, I decided to try and hunt down some materials needed
- for weapon upgrades and whatnot.
- \\\ Trabia- Winter Island ||
- Theft: 1× / 2× Fury Fragments (Blue Dragon)
- Lost & Found: 8× Dragon Fangs / 8× Dragon Skin / 4× / 6× Fury Fragments
- (Blue Dragon L30), 2× Curse Spikes / 5× Zombie Powder / 3× Curse Spikes /
- Force Armlet (Forbidden L30)
- Cards: Red Giant (Forbidden)
- Draw: Meltdown (Gayla Lv30), Esuna, Life, Dispel (Mesmerize),
- Pain (Ochu L30), Berserk (Snow Lion)
- - You'll need 4 Dragon Fangs (for Lionheart) and also a Fury Fragment
- if you use Zell in your active party. To ensure you're in the right
- area, hug the mountains close to Shumi Village and the nearby Chocobo
- Forest. Otherwise you may never find any Blue Dragons here. 9300 HP at Lv32.
- - Ochus and Forbiddens can be found near the beach, on the terrain that
- isn't covered in snow. Selphie's Strange Vision only requires two Curse
- Spikes. If you've played cards, you should already have them - unless
- you turned them into Pain. In any case, Forbiddens like to use Death,
- so make sure you're protected.
- - Ochus are pretty uncommon. You can also find them in the forests near
- Timber.
- - In case you didn't figure it out, you can change the enemy's Level
- with Tonberry's LV Up and LV Down commands (double and halve, respectively).
- \\\ Chocobo Forest (Lenown Plains) ||
- Items: Meteor Stone, Flare Stone, Ultima Stone
- - You can find this one east of the orphanage (which itself is northwest
- from Shumi Village).
- - Once there are 5 chicobos down, activate the ChocoZiner near the chicobo
- left of Chocoboy, and it should scare all the other ones away.
- \\\ Centra- Lenown Plains ||
- Theft: 8× Betrayal Swords / Power Generator (Blitz L30),
- 4× / 5× Inferno Fangs (Ruby Dragon L45)
- Lost & Found: 2× Fury Fragments / 2× Energy Crystals / 3× / 4× Fury Fragments
- (Ruby Dragon L45), 1× / 2× Inferno Fangs / 2× Fury Fragments / Star Fragment
- (Ruby Dragon L1 - 34)
- Draw: Flare; Meteor (Ruby Dragon L45)
- - Something tells me you're not quite ready to take on L64 Ruby Dragons,
- but you may still find something of interest here (the encounter rate is
- fairly low anyway). Inferno Fangs, for instance, provide you with 20 Flare
- spells each.
- - If you're only interested in Blitzes, you should head farther east,
- to Almaj Mountains or so, and hug the mountains there. Keep in mind that
- having the Rare Item ability equipped completely prevents you from
- successfully stealing a Power Generator.
- - Farther east (you'll have to ditch the Garden at one point), you'll
- find another Chocobo Forest.
- \\\ Chocobo Forest (Talle Mountains)||
- Items: Meteor Stone, Holy Stone, Ultima Stone
- - Get four chicobos down, then sound the Ziner in the middle of them.
- - You can encounter Cactuars in the desert north, so keep that in mind
- if you hunger for some AP.
- Lost & Found: Adamantine (Adamantoise L30) \\\ Esthar- Talle Mountains ||
- Draw: Reflect (Adamantoise Lv30)
- - The beach you're looking for is south from the desert. It's clearly
- the best place to hunt down Adamantoises thanks to the high encounter
- rate. 6300 HP at Lv32, 12 000 HP at Lv48. You'll need Meltdown.
- - You'll need three lumps of Adamantine in total (you should already
- have one from BGH).
- Item: Protect Stone, Meteor Stone \\\ Chocobo Forest (Nectar Peninsula)|
- - This one's directly south of FH, at the very northern parts of Centra.
- - There's only one hot spot here, but it's fairly elusive. Stand on the
- left side of Chocoboy. Now, place Squall so that he's standing just
- slightly above the "level" of Chocoboy's waist. It should be around there.
- - Once you catch the big one, challenge Chocoboy, but instead of playing
- cards (he uses Centra rules, which we'll ignore for now), tell him to
- move. The treasure's there.
- Item: Shell Stone, Holy Stone \\\ Chocobo Forest (Bika Snowfield) ||
- - This one's north of Trabia Garden.
- - So, there are two chicobos down right from the start. Go sound the
- Ziner near the entrance to the forest to get the third one. Next, find
- the hot spot a bit south from the north-most chicobo. That should do it.
- - After finding the stones, ride the chocobo east, and travel past the
- shallow water to Esthar. No need to go there if you haven't found all
- the stones in the other forests yet.
- Item: Gysahl Greens \\\ Chocobo Forest (Grandidi Forest)||
- Cards: Chicobo
- - More misspelling / typos ("Chocobo Card," "Gyshal Greens").
- - If you ride farther south along the coastline, you can almost circle
- around the entire Esthar continent (the water gets too deep near the
- Horizon Bridge), or go wander around Centra.
- \\\ B-Garden- Training Center ||
- Lost & Found: 6× Dino Bones / 2× Star Fragments / 8× Dino Bones /
- 6× Star Fragments (T-Rexaur L30)
- - The low encounter rate certainly won't help you in your potential quest
- to obtain Star Fragments (eg. for Selphie). Of course, you can always
- try and find Iron Giant cards instead.
- Item: Pet Nametag \\\ Timber- City Square ||
- - You'll get this if you talked to the aspiring journalist back in Disc 1.
- \\\ Dollet- Hasberry Plains ||
- Lost & Found: 4× / 6× / 8× Dragon Skin / Star Fragment (Anacondaur L30)
- - Get at least 4 Dragon Skin if you want Zell's best weapon (more if
- you have a Reflect shortage). Either hug the cliffs or hang around the
- forest. 4100 HP at Lv32, 7300 at Lv48.
- Theft: 4× Steel Pipes (Wendigo L30) \\\ Great Plains of Galbadia||
- - You'll need 6 Steel Pipes for Doomtrain. In order to find the right
- terrain, try the barren plains a little east from Deling.
- Draw: Ultima (low res, med rec) \\\ Shumi Village- Desert Village ||
- Default regional rules (Trabia): Plus, Random
- Special: Timber Maniacs #9 \\\ Shumi Village- Residence ||
- - Proceed to hunt down NPCs in the village until you are given the
- task of finding stones.
- Blue Stone: Examine the rocks near Laguna's statue.
- Wind Stone: Examine the big rock next to the hotel.
- Life Stone: Climb up the rock wall next to the Elder's house.
- Shadow Stone: Examine the stones opposite the Ultima DP.
- Water Stone: Examine the sink at the Artisan's house.
- Item: Phoenix Pinion \\\ Shumi Village- Residence ||
- - We're not done yet, however. You may need to re-enter the village
- to trigger part two of this particular side quest. In any case, quite
- a bit of running around to do: Elder, Attendant, Elder, Moomba,
- Attendant, Elder, Attendant, Artisan, Elder. Now you need to visit the
- Grease Monkey at FH, and then return to the Artisan. Go check the
- statue one more time, and head to the Elder's.
- Item: Status Guard \\\ Shumi Village- Residence ||
- - Better save this rare gem for later unless you know *exactly* what
- you're doing. I give it to Quetzalcoatl myself (used by Selphie, my
- mage/morpher).
- Party: Squall, Zell + any \\\ B-Garden- Library ||
- - Triggering these events will eventually score you Combat King 003.
- - Talk to Girl with Ponytail.
- - Talk to Conceited SeeD.
- \\\ Winhill Village ||
- Items: Gysahl Greens, Phoenix Pinion, Holy Stone
- Default regional rules (Centra): Same / Plus, Random
- - Talk to the people in the mansion. Now, you'll need to hunt down
- four Vase Pieces "cleverly" hidden around the village.
- × Go examine the flowers twice in the house opposite the Drain DP
- × Catch the chicobo running around near the flower fields. Do it again
- for some real items. Note that the Phoenix Pinion is referred to as a
- Phoenix Down.
- × Talk to the woman at the pub (more than once to be safe) then go
- examine the flowers downstairs on the table closest to the screen.
- Raine's ghost should appear, but when you talk to her, she'll turn
- into a cat, who has one of the pieces.
- × The last piece requires you to have either Quistis or Irvine in your
- party. Once this condition is met, something should happen when you
- examine the armor at the mansion.
- \\\ Esthar- Cactuar Island ||
- - Part of the Kashkabald Desert actually counts as Cactuar Island,
- which is pretty convenient. Just hug the ocean close to the actual
- island. Of course, this doesn't mean you can encounter Jumbo Cactuar
- yet, though.
- - In any case, set Squall's Strength to about 32 (44 without crits) if
- you're interested in beating up some cacti (215-222 HP). You'll gain
- 20 AP from each Cactuar. Fortunately, you'll gain no xp from weakened
- Cactuars that run away.
- Item: Weapons Mon Aug \\\ Trabia Garden- Front Gate ||
- - Once you reach the ruined fountain, take six steps south from the
- Thundaga DP and examine the ground to find Weapons Monthly, August
- Issue. Running around hitting Confirm should work too.
- Special: Timber Maniacs #10 \\\ T-Garden- Cemetery ||
- Draw: Aura (hidden, high res) \\\ T-Garden- Festival Stage ||
- - A fairly long event will take place at the basketball court.
- Cards: Selphie (Selphie's Friend) \\\ Trabia Garden- Front Gate ||
- - The end of Disc 2 is close, so make sure you're prepared. You'll
- also need a load of healing charms (Tents, Antidotes, Echo Screens,
- Eye Drops) if you're going for those Curse Spikes after Cerberus.
- \\\ Centra- Cape of Good Hope ||
- - Once you're ready, pilot your Garden towards Galbadia Garden hovering
- above the forest east of the orphanage.
- \\\ B-Garden- Headmaster's Office ||
- - I don't think the orders you give really matter. Might affect your
- SeeD rank, but that's probably it (offense, defense and junior classmen
- seems to give you the least nagging).
- - Keep that Enc-None on.
- Item: Cottage \\\ B-Garden- 2F Hallway ||
- \\\ B-Garden- Hall ||
- - Don't forget that you can save at the western hall.
- \\\ B-Garden- 2F Hallway ||
- [Fixed Encounter018: 4× Paratroopers]
- Draw: Aura (hidden, low res, no rec) \\\ G-Garden- Back Entrance ||
- - It really doesn't matter how well you got to know Galbadia Garden
- during Disc 1, since now you're thrown into areas you didn't have
- access to before. Plus, some of the doors are locked.
- \\\ G-Garden- Hall ||
- Theft: Spd-J Scroll (Cerberus), 6× / 8× Curse Spikes (Tri-Face L30)

- Draw: Pain; Flare (Tri-Face L30)
- GF: Cerberus
- Boss: Cerberus
- [Boss]
- - 30 AP
- - Steal the Spd-J Scroll.
- - The random encounters here only include Death Claws and Tri-Faces.
- Use this opportunity to steal 100 Curse Spikes (used to create a
- Luck-J Scroll later). Watch out for that Poison Gas, though (Poison,
- Darkness, Silence & Confuse). 8100 HP at Lv32, 10 200 HP at Lv48.
- Theft: 8× Mega Phoenixes (Seifer 2) \\\ G-Garden- Master Room ||
- Lost & Found: 8× Mega-Potions (Seifer 2)
- Boss: Seifer 2
- [Boss]
- - 20 AP
- - While Mega-Potions and Mega Phoenixes sell for the same amount of Gil
- (7500, with Sell-High), Mega Phoenixes are much more costly to create.
- You can buy them once you get to Esthar, though.
- \\\ G-Garden- Auditorium ||
- Theft: Hero / Holy War (Seifer 3), Royal Crown (Edea 2)
- Lost & Found: Hero / Holy War (Seifer 3), Force Armlet (Edea 2)
- Draw: Alexander GF (Edea 2)
- Boss(es): Seifer 3 & Edea 2 (separate phases)
- [Boss]
- - 50 AP in total
- - Alexander is the second last GF you can obtain by Drawing (assuming
- you didn't miss any)
- - You'll need Alexander's Med LV Up (unlocked after learning Med Data)
- in order to create Remedy+ items (for Doomtrain, for instance).
- - That's all for Disc 2.
- 87:39 (45:50 on Disc 2 alone), 396xp gained, S-Lv5, 509 580 Gil

- Item: Weapons Mon Jul \\\ B-Garden- Training Center ||
- - If you head to Norg's Master Room, you'll find a Shumi who uses
- Centra rules. Just thought I'd give you a heads up.
- - Anyway, head for Balamb (after checking on the Ultima DP first, that
- is), and make sure Zell is in your party. A girl in a red skirt should
- be walking past the gas station. Talk to her, then head for Zell's house.
- Now, go rest at the hotel.
- Item: Combat King 003 \\\ Balamb Hotel ||
- - If nothing happened, you probably haven't triggered the necessary

- to the (visible) Duel move list.
- Special: Timber Maniacs #11 \\\ Edea's House- Bedroom ||
- Cards: Edea (Edea) \\\ Edea's House- Backyard ||
- - After the story events, save and go check on Rinoa at the infirmary.

- - Choose 'H-Hold on a sec...' to get a chance to prepare for the battle.
- All but Squall's GF have been de-equipped.
- - This is the second last time you get to follow Laguna's misadventures.
- [Fixed Encounter019: Ruby Dragon] (3600 HP)
- Item: Sorceress' Letter (Unique) \\\ Edea's House- Backyard ||
- - I suggest you refer to a map in order to find the White SeeD ship.
- Item: (Rename Card) \\\ White SeeD Ship ||
- Cards: [Shiva] (Zone)
- Special: Timber Maniacs #12
- - I recommend against giving the Girl Next Door to Zone, as you can get
- the Shiva Card on Disc 4, whereas your precious journal of female anatomy
- will be lost for good should you depart with it.
- Draw: Holy (low res) \\\ White SeeD Ship- Cabin ||
- - After the story events, travel to FH. As soon as you hit the place,
- you'll be stuck in Esthar for quite a while, so make sure you're prepared.
- TPC: Edea Lv26 (25 000xp) \\\ Seaside Station ||
- Default regional rules (Esthar): Elemental, Same Wall (hidden)
- Initial stats (Edea): 1183 HP, 35 Str, 6 Vit, 28 Mag, 23 Spr, 20 Spd,
- 11 Luck, 1% Eva, 97% Hit
- Default weapon (Edea): None
- - Right, so, now we're going to build up Siren to L100 (39 600 xp) without
- gaining any xp for the standard PCs. Equip Edea with all the GF except
- Siren, who should be given to another member of your active party. In
- case you forgot, the GF will still receive xp and AP even if the "host"
- character is dead.
- × PS4 note: The Lv100 requirement is gone.
- - Don't forget that Siren will gain the Treatment command ability at Lv12.
- - Cerberus learns Expend x2-1 at Lv30, but it's hardly vital (allows you
- to cast two spells at the cost one when using Double).

- [Fixed Encounter021: Gesper, Esthar Soldier, Cyborg Esthar Soldier] (2xp)
- - Break, morph and LV Down. The soldier in the more colorful armor
- cannot be petrified. Lower him to Lv1 before closure (which includes

- Party: Squall & friends \\\ Presidential Palace- Hall ||
- Item: Occult Fan IV (Unique)
- - Find the Presidential Aide on a break near the Airstation. Now
- return to the palace.
- - There should be someone in the area where you see a picture of Winhill
- (assuming you spoke with the aide near the Airstation). Talk to him and
- examine the pile of magazines to find the last volume of the Occult Fan.
- Items: Hi-Potion, Mega-Potion, Rosetta Stone \\\ Esthar- City ||
- Shop: Pet Pals Vol 5, Pet Pals Vol 6
- - Keep checking on Johnny's Shop until you get in. No need to exit the
- store directory. You may also receive gifts during the process.
- - Cheryl's store, on the other hand, will always remain closed, but
- you'll eventually receive a Rosetta Stone if you keep trying.
- - Now that you can buy Cottages, I suggest you create and sell some
- Mega-Potions so you can get a taste of what is to come. Try to go for
- at least 50 000 000 gil, half of the max amount you can carry.
- - If you're interested in some Aura spells, buy either Hypno Crowns or
- Power Wrists and refine them into Aura stones with Tool-RF.
- - Pet Pals Vol 5 enables Angelo to learn Angelo Search. Vol 6 has
- Wishing Star.
- \\\ Esthar City ||
- - Edea's still with you, so it's not too late to build up Siren if you

- 1× / 2× Hypno Crowns (Malboro L30)
- - 45 000 HP at Lv32, 69 000 HP at Lv48. If he starts off at Lv6, use
- Lv Down so you can get it to Lv32. Either way, you'll want to use Demi.
- At least one character should be immune to Berserk. Sleep works, but
- you'll likely have to eat one Bad Breath before you can get it in.
- Item: Solomon Ring (Unique, Temp) \\\ Tears' Point ||
- - If you actually have all the necessary items (6 Malboro Tentacles,
- 6 Steel Pipes and 6 Remedy+s), use the ring to obtain Doomtrain (aka

- \\\ Lunar Gate- Deep Freeze ||
- - Your party will be divided here. Not much action in space, though.
- Item: Combat King 004 \\\ Esthar- City ||
- - From the first intersection, head north, west and west. Talk to

- one "teaches" Zell Different Beat.
- \\\ Dr. Odine's Laboratory- Lab ||
- - Seek out Doc Odine, and listen to his briefing. The first contact

- [Fixed Encounter025: Elite Soldier, G-Soldier]
- - Cast Break. The enemies may vary depending on the contact point.
- \\\ Lunatic Pandora ||
- Items: LuvLuv G, Power Generator, Phoenix Pinion, Combat King 005,
- Spd-J Scroll
- Draw: Meteor (low res, high rec), Ultima (med res, no rec),
- Holy (med res, no rec)
- - Most of the items are hidden, so resort to mashing the Confirm button
- in places that seem suspicious. Take the number 3 elevator first. There
- you'll find some stairs going south.
- × LuvLuv G: Near the Confuse DP.
- × Ultima DP: At the dead-end in the same area where you can find the
- last Combat King magazine.
- × Spd-J Scroll: In a hole near the Holy DP (past elevator #1)
- - If you're more interested in collecting items than Enemy Skills, I
- suggest you do nothing with the Power Generator. If you want both
- Ray-Bomb and the item itself for your collection, you'll have to
- spend some time Mugging Blitzes for an extra copy (unless you've
- already managed to steal one).
- - Soon after proceeding past the hidden save point, you'll be thrown
- out by Mobile Type 8. Better grab all the items you can find before
- you do that.
- \\\ Lunar Base- Medical Room ||
- Default regional rules (Lunar): Open, Sudden Death, Random,
- Same / Plus / Same Wall, Elemental
- - You'd be crazy to play with these rules (or just skilled), so let's
- start the abolishing procedure. This is a special occasion, and you'll
- only be able to abolish one rule. Save the game. Challenge Piet and
- quit. Repeat until he abolishes a rule that still currently exists

- \\\ Island Closest to Heaven ||
- Draw: Ultima, Triple, Full-Life, Meteor, Holy, Flare, Aura
- - All the Draw Points have high resistance (kind of - you'll get 2-5

- - The encounters include the following enemies: Tri-Face, Malboro, Ochu,
- Chimera. All Lv100. Start the battles with LV Down unless you're

- \\\ Island Closest to Hell ||
- Draw: Ultima, Triple, Full-Life, Meteor, Holy, Flare, Aura
- - The enemies here are: T-Rexaur, Blue Dragon, Hexadragon, Grendel (one

- your party's average level.
- Theft: Moon Stone (Elnoyle) \\\ Esthar- City ||

- in the game.
- \\\ Timber- Obel Lake ||
- - Examine the lake at the right area, and you'll be given the option
- to either throw a rock or to hum. Do the latter, and agree to find
- the black shadow's friend, Mr. Monkey.
- - The monkey hangs around the forest west of Dollet (Hasberry Plains).
- - After telling the shadow how his simian friend is doing, keep talking
- to the mysterious entity to hear clues on something. None of these
- items will appear before you actually hear the specific clue.
- 1. Balamb- Rinaul Coast: Keep looking until you find something man-made.

- access to the fastest source for Curse Spikes, and, thus, be able to

- my limits, so I won't be bringing it up again.

- - I don't need to remind you to Draw Eden, but I'll do it anyway.
- - The only thing you have to worry about is Light Pillar (9999 pod to
- a single character).
- - GFAbl Med-RF will be crucial, so shoot for that first. For starters,
- you can use it to turn Dark Matter into a Luck-J Scroll, as mentioned
- (gave this one to Eden).
- - Devour should be put to use immediately, as it's generally a very
- effective method to take out weak enemies that are troublesome to morph.
- - For a change of pace, we're going to finish the deal with the Triple
- Triad rules now. Our goal is to abolish all rules except Open in all
- regions.
- × As already mentioned, you really don't need to do this if you feel
- it's too much trouble. The only one that will impact stat-boosting is
- Centra (and Trabia if you're boosting Speed), so you should at least
- do that one.
- - Right, to begin the final process go "pick up" whichever rule you
- deleted in space. Here's what some regions had in my game.
- Galbadia | Same, Open
- FH | Elemental, Open
- Centra | Same / Plus, Random
- Esthar | Elemental, Same Wall
- - Since I got rid of Elemental in space, I went to FH and challenged
- Martine. Nothing more to it. Then, I flew to Lunar Gate and challenged
- the girl inside the station (Former Lunar-Side Base Personnel). The
- rest is just flying back and forth between FH and the station (and,
- naturally, quite a bit of soft-resetting).
- - Don't forget that Same Wall will be hidden if the Same rule isn't
- present. You can still abolish (or spread) it, though.
- - Also, if you're carrying rules that won't prompt mixing in another
- region but you want to pick up that region's rules, you have to start
- a bunch of games to do so.
- - My next target was Esthar. Go pick up Same in Timber. When you leave
- the Airstation, follow the northern path to find the Presidential Palace.
- Use the hidden save point east before approaching it. The first guard
- you see (in front of the building, not inside) should be willing to
- play. You know the rest.
- - Next up is Centra. After picking up Elemental at FH once again, head
- to Winhill. Enter it from the right side and you should see the SeeD
- dropouts right nearby. If you find yourself in the town square instead,
- you chose the wrong side. In any case, only the mercenary in the blue
- uniform will play.
- - We're almost there. Here's what you should do: Spread Elemental in
- Balamb. Abolish Elemental in FH (played with 'Familiar Face #3'). Abolish
- Same in Galbadia (played with the guard with the cat in Timber). Delete
- Balamb's rules, and then spread Open.
- - In case you forgot, you can wipe out any and all rules in Balamb by
- playing with the crouching man at the harbor.
- - And finally, play a quick game in every region to see if you missed
- anything - or not see it if it's a hidden Same Wall in which case you'll
- be asked to mix rules in the next region you play that doesn't have Same Wall.
- - If, for some reason, you wish to play with rules other than Open, go
- pay a visit to the Queen of Cards, and she'll throw in a new rule for
- 30 000 Gil. She will move to a different region every time you lose a
- Level 8, 9, or 10 card to her, but I've no details to offer you regarding

- - It's finally time to create stat-boost items. First, you'll need as
- much Gil as you can get. In case you forgot, you're supposed to buy
- Tents and Cottages (or just Cottages), refine them into Mega-Potions,
- and sell them. You'll get 20 mil in 15 minutes.

- 100 Power Wrists -> 10 Hyper Wrists -> Str Up (Str +1) | 1,5m
- 100 Force Armlets -> 10 Magic Armlets -> Spr Up (Spr +1) | 1,5m
- 100 Hypno Crowns -> 10 Royal Crowns -> Mag Up (Mag +1) | 1,5m
- - I myself prefer to start with HP, since you only need about
- 90 000 000 Gil to boost a single character's HP to decent numbers.
- Since I'm using Holy / Meteor in conjunction with my HP, I'll need a
- base HP value of 6200. That's roughly 570 HP Ups for Squall, fewer for
- the other character I'm using (Selphie, Zell).
- - Next, Squall's Strength (I choose to ignore the other characters
- here even though Zell's Duel has quite a bit of potential). Since
- I'm using Meteor in conjunction with my Str, I'll need a base Str
- value of 161. That's 140 Str Ups for me. Notice that the base Str
- value you see when you're using a Str Up doesn't include the bonus
- the character gains from his or her weapon.
- - The fastest method to gain Str Ups is actually modding the Eden Card
- and winning it back from eg. Joker (on Disc 4), but I prefer to have
- Squall beefed up for the final confrontation with Seifer.
- - Spirit should be boosted to approximately 175. At this point,
- Full-Life will be more than enough to reach 255, but you'll need
- the extra few points, as you may end up using the spell occasionally.
- Reflect isn't a bad choice either. Might as well fix yourself up with
- some Moon Curtains (Auto-Shell).
- - I don't bother boosting Magic.
- - The only one left is Vitality. This one will have to wait until Disc 4,
- where we'll mod the Minotaur Card and win it back from Joker (you did
- finish the CC Group side quest, didn't you? Otherwise, he won't play
- with the "unique" cards). The alternative methods are much more
- time-consuming.
- - Collectors should stick with IC a little longer, so you can cook up

- is, if you finished the related side quest. All the members can be found
- scattered about in your ship, and, as Xu mentions, you can challenge
- Quistis by taking her into the Airlock.
- - The cards you may encounter here include every single card in the game
- (except for that one little Level 5 card). The twist with Level 8, 9 and
- 10 cards is, however, that you can only have one of a specific card at a
- time. If you want, for instance, more Eden Cards, you'll have to get rid
- of it first (ie. mod it). The "unique" cards will always appear in the
- order as seen in the Card menu, one at a time. The exceptions include
- the cards the Queen's father created (Chubby Chocobo, Phoenix, Doomtrain,
- Kiros, Irvine), which can only be (re-)acquired from the Goth Diamond
- (the left one).
- - Joker aka Man from Balamb will be on the ship regardless of whether or
- not you finished the CC Group side quest. Naturally, he won't be using
- any fancy cards if you didn't. In any case, his services include a
- Junk Shop and an item shop.
- - Once you've obtained every card in the game, a star will appear next
- to the Card "link" in the main menu. You can still get it even if you
- don't actually have a specific card anymore.

- - You'll likely need Meltdown, so make sure you've unlocked your Magic.
- - The Prison Key will simply be used to get out of the cell. You can
- use it on the other door as well, but only from the other side when
- coming from the Waterway (where you'll find the Rosetta Stone).
- \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Courtyard ||
- - Examine the fountain to find the Treasure Vault Key. You can access
- the Treasure Vault from the corridor before the Elevator Hall.
- \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Clock Tower ||
- - Walk over to the strange object and examine it to obtain the Armory Key.
- If it falls down, you can retrieve it at the Flood Gate.
- - Ultimecia awaits beyond the tower (past the hidden save point), but
- you'll likely want to unlock some more abilities.
- Lost & Found: Rocket Engine (Tri-Point) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Wine Cellar ||
- Draw: Siren GF (Tri-Point)
- Boss: Tri-Point
- - Note that the hatch to the wine cellar can't be opened until you've
- smashed it with the chandelier.
- [Boss]
- Lost & Found: Status Atk (Catoblepas) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Treasure Rm ||
- Draw: Alexander GF (Catoblepas)
- Boss: Catoblepas
- - Simply open all the chests.
- [Boss]
- - He will still be able to cast Meteor even if you drain all his MP.
- Lost & Found: Magic Armlet (Gargantua) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Armory ||
- Draw: Cerberus GF (Gargantua)
- Boss(es): Gargantua (+ Vysage, Lefty, Righty) (separate phases)
- [Boss]
- - Naturally, no xp will be gained from the trio.
- Lost & Found: Elem Guard (Krysta) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Terrace ||
- Draw: Carbuncle GF (Krysta)
- Boss: Krysta
- - In order to get here, have your secondary party hit the lever at the
- Grand Hall (ie. walk into the Party Switch Point) so that your main
- party can get across the chandelier.
- [Boss]
- - At this point you should have enough unlocked abilities to take on
- Omega. Save and prepare at the Clock Tower, then go switch the party
- at the Courtyard. The other group now needs to ring the bell in the
- Stairway Hall near the Art Gallery. Quickly switch back, run into the
- Chapel and perform any final tweaks.
- Lost & Found: Three Stars (Omega Weapon) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Chapel ||
- Boss: Omega Weapon
- [Boss]
- - Omega is always at Level 100 (1 161 000 HP). (not on PS4)
- - Assuming your Luck is high enough, you can ignore his physical attacks.
- - The first thing he'll cast is LV5 Death, and that's the only time he'll
- use it. After that begins the following cycle (excluding physical attacks,
- which appear without a solid pattern - as always):
- 1. Meteor
- 2. Megido Flame
- 3. Gravija
- 4. Terra Break
- 5. Ultima
- 6. Light Pillar
- 7. go to 1.
- - Here's what I did after each specific attack:
- LV5 Death
- - Cast Meltdown
- - Attack with Squall
- First Meteor
- - Attack with Squall
- - Heal with a Mega-Potion
- - Cast Meltdown again if the first one didn't work
- Megido Flame (9998 pod to all characters)
- Gravija
- - Squall uses a Megaelixir and then attacks if he gets any additional turns.
- - Selphie and Zell use Defend.
- Terra Break (12 hits at 4000 pod each, 2000 with Protect, 0 with Defend)
- - Attack with Squall if he's alive
- - Phoenix Down on Squall if he dies
- Ultima
- - Attack with Squall
- Light Pillar
- - Phoenix Down on the fallen character
- - Attack with Squall if he's alive
- Second Meteor and any subsequent Meteors
- - Megaelixir, or Full-Cure if Selphie's in critical condition
- - Attack with Squall
- Megido Flame
- - Repeat
- - I had 12 Megaelixirs and ended up using 7. You can always opt to mod
- the Bahamut card into 100 Megalixirs.
- - After your victory, a new section called the Proof of Omega will be
- added into the Information menu in the Tutorial. Strangely enough, if
- you go ring the bell now, the timer will still appear.
- Lost & Found: Status Guard (Tiamat) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Clock Tower ||
- Draw: Eden GF (Tiamat)
- Boss: Tiamat
- - In order to find Tiamat, climb up the tower and jump on the swinging bell.
- [Boss]
- - If you don't care about the Rosetta Stone, you can just head to the
- final boss.
- \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Elevator Hall ||
- - Put all the girls in the same party and have them standby on the
- left Switch Point. The guys should make their way to the right Switch
- Point (by going through the Art Gallery etc.). This should enable
- you to access the Storage Room.
- \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Storage Room ||
- - The Floodgate Key can be found lying around here. You can use it to
- unlock the lever at the Flood Gate, near the corridor leading into the
- prison cell. Don't forget to use the lever as well.
- \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Passageway ||
- - This is the passageway east from the Courtyard. The gates can be opened
- by molesting the organ at the Chapel; you'll need to hit all the keys
- at once. Unfortunately, you won't be directly informed whether you got
- it right or not, so you may end up running back and forth a few times.
- Item: Rosetta Stone \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Waterway ||
- Draw: Apocalypse (Ultimecia 4) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Master Room ||
- Boss(es): Ultimecia 1, Griever, Ultimecia 2 (+ n× Helixes),
- Ultimecia 3 (+ Ultimecia 4) (separate phases)
- - Before going through the door, fill up your spell inventory with
- anything. This way, you're less likely to lose anything vital when
- Griever or Ultimecia 3 blows away your magic.
- [Boss]
- - Your party may vary.
- - Dead characters will quickly be removed from the battle completely,
- so revive the ones you want to keep.
- - At most, you'll face two Helixes at a time.
