  1. In a land there was a queen
  2. Some said she was good, some said she was mean
  3. Some said she’d look better if she wore some more green
  4. While some thought she’d look like a bean
  5.
  6. Day after day, our dear little queen
  7. Went to the mirror and herself did preen
  8. While listening to her advisor Aileen
  9. As this was her daily routine
  10.
  11. Every day the queen and Aileen
  12. Would talk about ribbons and buttons and things
  13. And Aileen would also tell her dear queen
  14. Everything that she could glean
  15.
  16. From what the people said of their queen
  17. Some of it nice, and some of it mean
  18. Some of it falling somewhere between
  19. Like the comments about her in green
  20.
  21. Over time it angered the queen
  22. That the people to her ears did seem
  23. To rather not respect their queen
  24. And her casual disliking of green
  25.
  26. And so she told her advisor Aileen
  27. To go to the town on December thirteen
  28. Gather the people and tell them that she
  29. Would not tolerate them venting their spleens
  30.
  31. And so it was on December thirteen
  32. The people gathered to hear fair Aileen
  33. And as she delivered the message the queen
  34. Had dictated, they caused quite a scene
  35.
  36. “By edict of our dear gracious queen,
  37. No one is allowed to say anything mean
  38. About her majesty, the honourable queen
  39. Or they will be jailed” said Aileen
  40.
  41. By the time December sixteen
  42. Rolled around, no fewer than thirteen
  43. People had been jailed by the queen
  44. As a result of her recent decree
  45.
  46. Soon the people learnt that the queen
  47. Was quite serious about her decree
  48. And so they made sure to only be seen
  49. To be praising their volatile queen
  50.
  51. Day after day the queen and Aileen
  52. Would talk about ribbons and buttons and things
  53. And Aileen would also tell her dear queen
  54. How the people were no longer mean
  55.
  56. This report at first pleased the queen
  57. Who enjoyed how nice the villagers now seemed
  58. Until she realised that it may simply be
  59. That the hatred was now just unseen
  60.
  61. Weeks and months went by and the queen
  62. Went gradually madder and frequently screamed
  63. Because she no longer had certainty
  64. That the villagers’ words they did mean
  65.
  66. Until one day poor dear Aileen
  67. When she went to the queen as was her routine
  68. Found protruding from the chest of her queen
  69. A dagger that glistened and gleamed
  70.
  71. So say what you think and be what you seem
  72. I won’t be offended if you sneer or demean
  73. Honesty’s worth more than a mere dream
  74. I’m a Fool, but at least I like green!
