  49. In 18th century North America during the French and Indian War, a white man adopted by the last members of a dying tribe called the Mohicans unwittingly becomes the protector of the two daughters of a British colonel, who have been targeted by Magua, a sadistic and vengeful Huron warrior who has dedicated his life to destroying the girls' father for a past injustice.
  50. As the British and French soldiers battle for control of the North American colonies in the 18th century, the settlers and native Americans are forced to take sides. Cora and her sister Alice unwittingly walk into trouble but are saved by Hawkeye, an orphaned settler adopted by the last of the Mohicans.
  51. Loved this movie, Day-Lewis and Stowe are so good when acting off one another in close up like after the Cameron massacre. Day-Lewis as gives us such a tight performance. His playing against been an English type is as per usual. He does not seem able to take up the battle for the land of his father in any work. What happened to him walking and talking to the Celts of Western Europe has a profound effect on his craft, as one born in London at about the same time but brought back "Home" so often I never can recall ever feeling anything but not English. It's the strangest belonging. An Englishman can be British, an Irishman can be nothing else. This forms such moments in "The Mohicans" when there are stretches of silence between Stowe and Day-Lewis. Mann's making (rather than) directing is not like any other movie I know of his. He trusts the cast to play their parts with such honesty and the gorgeous New York Hudson Valley background, the colours, sounds, the Bobcat looking at Stowe are a delight, are a full star in their own right. This movie is not like anything that is made now, maybe it too is the last hurrah of a by gone age just like the Mohican. Watch, watch it slowly, catch as much as you can and come back to it again some night you are on your own. I think it may become one of your all time favorite movies. Enjoy
  52. LAST OF THE MOHICANS is one of those rare moments with technical perfection meets acting perfection to produce. This movie has such an incredibly beautiful &quot;look,&quot; individual frames would make perfect art for the National Museum. The score is to be savored over and<br/><br/>over. Fine performances by Daniel Day-Lewis, Madelaine Stowe (her best role, ever), Russell Means and Wes Studi capture the essence of the Cooper novel. The perfect romantic adventure, and one of the best films of the 90s, if not the twentieth century.
  53. The Last of the Mohicans is not as authentic and uncompromised as it claims to be -- more of a matinee fantasy than it wants to admit -- but it is probably more entertaining as a result.
  54. Set in 1757, during the French and Indian War for control of the North American colonies, the two last members of a dying Mohican Indian tribe, Chingachgook (<a href="/name/nm0575184/">Russell Means</a>) and his son Uncas (<a href="/name/nm0777760/">Eric Schweig</a>), along with an adopted white man, Nathaniel &quot;Hawkeye&quot; Poe (<a href="/name/nm0000358/">Daniel Day-Lewis</a>), agree to accompany the two daughters, Cora (<a href="/name/nm0000656/">Madeleine Stowe</a>) and Alice (<a href="/name/nm0562003/">Jodhi May</a>), of British Colonel Edmund Munro (<a href="/name/nm0747687/">Maurice Roëves</a>) to Fort William Henry in Albany, New York. Along the way, they must fight French soldiers and a vengeful Huron warrior named Magua (<a href="/name/nm0836071/">Wes Studi</a>), who has vowed to kill the Colonel and his daughters to avenge a past injustice. The screenplay for this movie, written by American filmmakers Michael Mann (who also directed the movie) and Christopher Crowe, was adapted in part from The Last of the Mohicans: A Narrative of 1757 (1826), a novel by American author James Fenimore Cooper [1789-1851], as well as from a previous film adaptation, <a href="/title/tt0027869/">The Last of the Mohicans (1936)</a> (1936). Sedition basically means &quot;making trouble against the government.&quot; Sedition can range from simple incitement to rebel all the way to high treason. Magua explains to General Montcalm (<a href="/name/nm0161717/">Patrice Chéreau</a>) that his... village and lodges were burned. Magua&#39;s children were killed by the English. I was taken a slave by the Mohawk who fought for the Grey Hair. Magua&#39;s wife believed he was dead and became the wife of another man. Magua became blood brother to the Mohawk, to be free. But always in his heart, he is Huron. And his heart will be whole again on the day the Grey Hair and all his seed are dead. It&#39;s called a gunstock club. a5c7b9f00b
