  1. Kirby: Triple Deluxe is one of the most disappointing Kirby games, and in my opinion the worst mainline game.
  2. Kirby is definitely one of my favorite franchise. I grew up with Amazing Mirror, and I think that game, along with Super Star Ultra and Return to Dream Land, is one of my favorite games of all time.
  3. Triple Deluxe seemed promising, it was basically Return to Dream Land 2! But holy shit, all my excitement was crushed very soon.
  4.
  5. Length has always been kind of a problem in most Kirby games. A ton of Kirby games are just, unnecessarily short.
  6. While Adventure had a pretty consistent length, and Dream Land 2 was still decently long for a GameBoy game, beginning from the SNES games Kirby became *short*. Super Star, as much fun and original that game was, was very short. Its remake, Super Star Ultra added a few hours worth of new content, but for that time's standard it was quite short too. Return to Dream Land, however, felt much more consistent, partially because there was a mode that was just the main game but harder, EX Mode.
  7.
  8. Triple Deluxe's main campaign was shorter than RTDL's, having more levels that however were all notably shorter. Guess how the "hard mode" of the game was? Not like RTDL's EX Mode, which fleshed out the game a lot. No, no. We're talking about a "time attack mode", played exclusively with King Dedede.
  9. It contains slightly harder enemies and bosses, but this harder challenge is completely fucked up by how strong King Dedede is, compared to Kirby. Due to his major strength he can go through levels even faster, emphasizing said "time attack" feature. This mode significantly cuts down content from the game, too: all the Hypernova sections are gone, the world map is gone, Sun Stones are gone, it's all just a continuos stream of some parts of the game you've played, just you go through it even FATSER. Cutting out the Hypernova was a particularly dumb choice, they could've definitely made Dedede use the Magic Beans (definitely weren't called that) that make Kirby give the ultimate succ, Dedede has been shown being able to inhale in a similar fashion to Kirby, heck, he does it in Smash too! And unlike Meta Knight in his Meta Knightmare modes, Dedede doesn't have "bottom screen" abilities you activate with points you get by defeating enemies, which make the whole thing even more repetitive.
  10.
  11. The two subgames are Kirby Fighters and Dedede's Drum Dash: Kirby Fighters is actually pretty cool, Dedede's Drum Dash is amazing....ly bad.
  12.
  13. But now, it's time to talk about the actual main campaign.
  14. The game is at times just a downgraded RTDL. Hypernova just feels like a 6th Super Ability from RTDL, except it's the ONLY Super Ability available. It's fucking boring and feels the same all the time. The "boss" fights with Hypernova are just.. no.
  15. Oh, and Water was cut for no reason, Hi-Jump was cut for no reason, Tornado was cut for no reason. What ANGERS me the most is that a lot of Copy Abilities got their movesets **downgraded**! For example, in RTDL you could use two attacks where Kirby created a lightning that travelled either upwards or downwards. Well, guess what, they were cut in this game, and now Spark just feels like Super Star's Plasma except you don't have a terrible attack if you don't have any charge. Needle's Wheel-like dash attack, introduced in RTDL, was also cut. I guess it was because Wheel was put back in this game, which makes sense? But it also does not, considering it works in almost completely different way. I'm sure there are other movesets that got downgraded, don't remember them all though. Oh, and guess what? Instead, Sword's moveset was expanded AGAIN! That's fucking right, it's a Skyward Sword reference. I mean, it's a cool attack, but they downgraded abilities that already had few moves, and just added more to the ability with the most moves! Yeah, fuck you HAL. Beetle and Archer are cool though. Bell and Circus aren't good.
  16. Oh and this game is so fucking unoriginal! Fine Fields is literally just Cookie Country. I'm not joking. FF's level themes are: grassland, caves, forest. Oh, isn't that exactly the same as Cookie Country? Yep!
  17. Wild World is literally just a desert, but it's in a jungle! Even the "temple" theme is here. Endless Explosions is just ANOTHER volcano level. Royal Road is just.. weird. It's a castle, but you also go in these dimensional portals that bring you in weird dimensions with floating crystals? Uh.. what? Is it Sectonia doing this? But if I am correct, it doesn't seem like she has any power on this kind of thing. What the fuck is happening here?
  18. Overall, level design is just very bland and forgettable, and most of the stuff done here was already done by RTDL.
  19. One thing that's kinda cool is 3D Warp Stars, but I'd barely call them a "major new gimmick".
  20.
  21. Now, nobody plays Kirby for the story, of course, but- RTDL's story was about Magolor betraying Kirby. RTDL overall was a huge throwback to Super Star, even in its story. While we don't see Magolor as often as Kirby himself, he still gets enough time so that him betraying us has an effect.
  22. Then there's Triple Deluxe. Uh......
  23. First of all, these "fairies" that inhabit the Dreamstalk only appear in one of Royal Road's final levels. (They have a horrible design and I absolutely despise them, but that's not the point). Then Taranza talks about how they tried to bring a hero to save them from the evil Sectonia and made the Dreamstalk reach Dream Land.
  24. But uh... Why do we never see them during the rest of the game? There could have been shops, towns, SOME WAY to show them before making them important to the story. During the game, we're only following Taranza who has kidnapped Dedede (and somehow is very slow, as Kirby always catches up with him in every world's boss fight..? Man, you're too slow.)
  25. During the main campaign they could've easily introduced some fairy NPCs that talk about how evil Sectonia is and ask Kirby to save them. So Kirby both has to rescue Dedede and rescue a whole kingdom. That would've been better.
  26. They didn't want to make the player fight Taranza, for some reason, so instead they used nostalgia bait and bring back "Masked Dedede" FOR NO FUCKING REASON. I get bringing back the music, but why give him a mask at all? One thing I gotta say about the fight though: him pulling out that axe was actually cool.
  27. And then we fight Sectonia, and then there's a VERY annoying motion control bullshit part before the second phase of the boss, where you shoot Kirby with a cannon at flowers or some shit. It was dumb.
  28. And anyway, uh, the part where Kirby supersuccs Sectonia's laser was actually pretty cool. And when Dedede freed Kirby, and Taranza then gave him a Magic Bean, was mildly decent too.
  29.
  30. Still, overall, the game was a fucking disappointment. And that goddamn True Arena is too hard to beat, fuck that Super Star Ultra wannabe shit with the almost impossible secret boss.
  31.
  32. Actually, "RTDL wannabe" pretty much fits the whole game.
  33.
  34. Note: I'm tired right now, my grammar might be fucked up, plus English isn't even my native language. I still hope I got my point across.
