For the most part they save, but her mom likes to dress Cindy up in things they rather shouldn't spent money on. It's the same way in Africa, they ask the people what they spend money on first and it's always clothing. The illusion of being wealthy now or others perceiving you are is worth more than actually being wealthy a decade later from now I guess
