Personal Statement.

A key skill of mine would be problem solving. Thinking outside of the box will aid in the solution of complications that might arise in Information and Communications Technology. Significant relevant experience for this key skill would be through troubleshooting during a PC build. There are an incredible number of issues that could arise during the assemblage of a computer, and the ability to pinpoint the precise issues during such a task is one that I have had to perform on a number of occasions.

Another key skill of mine would be effectively and efficiently working as a team member. The ability to be independent where necessary has been an important part of my working experience in retail, but this trait isn’t very useful when the solution to many problems is communicating properly with your peers. Being a reliable member of a team is of utmost importance in any field of work, which makes it an important part of my work ethic.

My knowledge of ICT specifically is advanced. Using Microsoft Office software in many of my modules means I’ve acquired a deep understanding of these technologies. Microsoft Access and other database systems such as SQL databases were utilised through my further studies and I have a basic understanding of how SQL works. Microsoft Word, Publisher and Powerpoint were utilised in many of my GCSE studies so the use of these technologies comes easy to me. Many of the skills accrued through the use of this software is interchangeable and my initiative to apply these skills elsewhere will aid me in this field of work.

The operation of output devices such as projectors and printers is something I have experience with, however it is limited to basic utilisation rather than maintenance. Network switches is also something I have limited knowledge of however I am confident that this will change in the near future.

One more key skill of mine would be my willingness to learn and progress. I am open to any improvement that can be made to my character and any opportunity I can get to further my knowledge in a field of expertise will be approached head-on. Any further reading that would be required will be welcome and completed in my own time outside of work hours.
