  6. +Smedley Butler __ Howdy, cheers for your question. A "literalist" can be described with some examples.
  7.
  8.
  9.
  10. A "literalist" would be someone who can be shown something that is egg-shaped but unless it is precisely egg-shaped (as the literalist understands it) then it is not recognised as being egg-shaped.
  11.
  12.
  13.
  14. There may be two identical images presented but from slightly different angles. A "literalist" is someone who would be unable to recognise them as being the same (because the "angle" is different).
  15.
  16.
  17.
  18. It is not an uncommon trait for a "literalist" to accept as true anything they recognise as coming from an "official" source. For example - if a detail is found on Wikipedia or reported in a newspaper - it is accepted as true - _even if the detail is obviously absurd and in error_.
  19.
  20.
  21.
  22. You would need to "prove" to the satisfaction of the "literalist" that the detail was incorrect before even that which is obviously absurd could be accepted as an "error".
  23.
  24.
  25.
  26. If you tell a "literalist" that you don't drink alcohol but find yourself in a social situation where it is more complaisant to have a sip of alcohol than not (such as when presenting a toast to the owner of a winery) - the "literalist" would be unable to reconcile this behavioural disparity and conclude you must have lied about not drinking alcohol.
  27.
  28.
  29.
  30. _And so on and so forth_.
  31.
  32.
  33.
  34. Generally speaking, "literalists" require even the simplest and most self-evident of things to be painstakingly explained to them.
