- All design jobs begin with a design brief. It is essential that the designer and the client understands the requirements of the design brief and that it is clear and not open to interpretation by the designer. It is the responsibility of the designer and the client to ensure the brief is thorough.
- Identify a design brief you have been given.
- Seek approval for this design brief from your assessor and line manager. Your brief must be appropriate and have the potential to cover all the criteria for the unit.
- • clarify the expectations and preferences of the decision-maker for the project accurately identify target users of the design and record their needs
- • explore the limitations and constraints of the client brief
- • explore the technical, legal and regulatory requirements for design realisation
- • ensure the accuracy of information by seeking advice and assistance where necessary
- • make a positive contribution to agreeing an approach to the project.

- • clarify the limitations and constraints of a client brief with others involved and contribute to setting design objectives
- • the purpose and function of client brief
- • evaluate target user needs, such as size, product performance, cost of the final product, style
- • limitations and constraints of design briefs, including cost of design work, time, quality and quantity, function and form
- • the use of information retrieval systems
- • research, collate and present information for a design brief (paper based, using information and communications technology).
