- Once upon a time there was… - typical way to begin a fairy tale (not a true story)
- First paragraph tells us about the main character and the location.
- Maybe there is some background about things that happen before the real story starts.
- (Introduction of the character and the setting.)
- character = a person or animal in a story
- setting = the time and location of a story
- One evening / One day / One summer / One afternoon / etc. - typical way to begin the action
- (Beginning of the plot.)
- plot = the events of a story
- ---
- Suddenly / All of a sudden = to show that something happened quickly and with surprise
- Later = after some time passed
- After that / next / then = the next thing that happened (to show the sequence of events)
- In the morning / The next morning
- The next day/week/month/year - if I want to skip the time between
- ---
- Now = in the final moment of the main action (not now 6/23/2015)
- Finally = the last thing that happens in the plot
- So the prince took her for his wife = conclusion of the whole story
- “where it may still be seen” - connect the story to the present
- “They lived happily ever after.” - typical way to finish a fairy tale (if it ends with something happy)
- ---
- In your story, where could we add the sentence, “They lived happily ever after”?
- So the prince took her for his wife, for now he knew that he had a real princess. They lived happily ever after. The pea was put in the museum, where it may still be seen, if no one has stolen it.
- (after the prince and princess’s action, and before we talk about the present)
