watched hotaru no haka (grave of the fireflies). i liked it a lot, but have some issues; (spoilers ahead)

 it kinda sucks that the story goes the way it goes because of sheer stubbornness, but i get Why it be like that
 the morality theme could've been more expansive; we hardly see Seita feel unsure of his actions. perhaps this is intentional, but i feel it is a missed opportunity.
 Seita hardly seems like he's as hungry as he says he is at times; only a few scenes does he really struggle with his physical body.
 wanted more of the flashforward scenes. the scene of the random kids discovering the shelter and playing around in it was really hecking good. (perhaps its better that there were so few)
 pacing was just a tiny, tiny bit too slow, particularly at the start


a solution:
in the story its based on, the main character lives because he steals food from the aunt (who dies). that would've been far more interesting (and brought up morality in a way better manner than the movie did).

still, a nice tear jerker movie. they do a great job of showing just how much Seita loves his sister and wants to preserve her innocence. love how distant everyone is from each other since they're all trying to stay alive in their own way (for instance, background characters can be right next to Seita but still have no faces), and how unphasing death is to everyone but Seita. music/art top notch quality you expect from studio ghibli.
