- Anita's childhood was unique experience for a Gilrath. While Gilrath children were always raised to serve and respect the Macrea household, her mother Rachel seemed almost reluctant to do so and made only half-hearted attempts to impart these lessons. The lord of Macrea household, Abraham Macrea, would also treat her with a sort of impersonal contempt, like avoiding an animal he had an allergy to, yet she also received birthday gifts from him. Her mother also seemed to get a lot of bad treatment from certain members of both the Gilrath and Macrea family for having Anita out of wedlock to an unknown father, and Anita herself also got a lot of contemptuous looks from the same people. She took to intellectual studies very easily and even proved very adept with the studies of magic, something many people had dissuaded her from practicing, her mother and Abraham Macrea especially.
- Between all this ambiguity and unpleasantness, as well as the treatment her adopted older brother had received every time he asked to fight alongside the Macreas, Anita grew up very disenchanted over the Macrea and Gilrath households and their duties, not feeling any real respect or loyalty to their principles or traditions whatsoever. She chose not to listen to her mother or Abraham, continuing to practice the magical arts in secret for her own amusement and would frequently sneak out of the premises to go play in the town alone. It was only when she was caught doing such behavior that Abraham ever seemed to get over made him constantly avoid her and instead threw him into a frothing tirade, something Anita found amusing even if her brother and mother also seemed disappointed in her whenever she acted out.
- Despite loving her mother very dearly, she also grew frequently annoyed with her about various issues, but perhaps the biggest point of contention was the identity of her father. She could never squeeze out that information from her and she probably would've gone on forever not knowing if she didn't figure out one very simple fact: no one else in the Gilrath family got birthday presents from Abraham Macrea. After that Anita's streak of rebelliousness got only worse to annoy him until finally shortly after her brother Galeas was disowned she confronted her father, showing off her magical power identifiably as Macrean heritage and essentially threatened to out herself as his daughter to the Macrea family, which included his wife and official children.
- After that Anita found herself in much the same situation as her brother.
