  1. [13:24] <~CelestialDoggie> The first night of your return to Fairhaven passes happily, with all of you spending your time back in warmer climes the ways you see fit. Kelenne, of course, has kept your rooms upstairs locked and safe--and, most importantly, reserved.
  2. [13:24] <~CelestialDoggie> As promised, right around noon the next day, your halfling contact, Miesta, saunters in through the tavern's doors.
  3. [13:24] <~CelestialDoggie> "Afternoon, Heroes of the Mountain Hall," she says, grinning. "How are my favorite gophers today?"
  4. [13:25] <Ethlem> "What's a gopher?" Eth'lem asks with a blank face
  5. [13:25] <Andrea> "Miesta!" Andrea grins, raising a mug. "A fine day to you!"
  6. [13:26] * Victoria stares.
  7. [13:26] * Karkanna is facedown on the bar.
  8. [13:28] * Sorneia is silent as she watches the room from under her hood.
  9. [13:28] <Andrea> "Come on, Victoria, Sorneia, be more social." Andrea grins at both of them. "It's polite to say hello!"
  10. [13:29] <Sorneia> "Hello."
  11. [13:29] <~CelestialDoggie> "Nah, it's alright, can't everybody be as nice to folks as we half-pints." She hops up effortlessly onto a chair next to Andrea. "Happy to be home, and all that, eh?"
  12. [13:29] <~CelestialDoggie> "Or I suppose as 'home' as you get without going back to whichever far-flung corner of Eberron you spring from, I guess."
  13. [13:31] <Andrea> "It is a fine drinking hall, a place of mirth and merriment. And to a wanderer, wherever you rest is home." Andrea chuckles. "I do miss Argonessen, but my calling brought me here, and so I will follow it until the end of my path, at Bahamut's side!"
  14. [13:31] * Karkanna snores.
  15. [13:31] * Victoria blinks slowly. "Hello."
  16. [13:32] <Andrea> "Good effort!" Andrea shoots a grin to the two more withdrawn members of the party.
  17. [13:34] <Ethlem> Eth'lem returns to quietly drinking her tea and the letter she was halfway through writing, but half-listens to the ensuing conversation.
  18. [13:34] <~CelestialDoggie> The short brunette (emphasis on the -ette) chuckles. "Well said. Me, I'm content to just tool around the area and do things what need doin'. Anyway, I promised you guys your payments today, for doing such a bang-up job at doing MY job. And I brought it, too. 'S waiting right outside."
  19. [13:35] <Andrea> "We all have our role in the world, and doing what must be done is a work of honour." Andrea gives Miesta a grin. "Glory is more a reward to me than gold... But I'm sure some of my colleagues would disagree." She shoots a smirk to Karkanna upon the bar.
  20. [13:39] <~CelestialDoggie> Kelenne, faring much better than her hung-over and worn-out cousin, gruffly shoves the other dwarf off her sleeping perch. "I would too," she yells, loud enough to be heard over Karkanna's snores and her clattering. "You can at least spend gold."
  21. [13:40] * Karkanna goes tumbling. "Gah, I fucked your mother you ingrate!"
  22. [13:40] <Andrea> "Gold is transient, Glory is eterna."
  23. [13:40] <Andrea> *l
  24. [13:41] <Karkanna> "Oh, what's going on shorty."
  25. [13:42] <~CelestialDoggie> "Money."
  26. [13:42] <~CelestialDoggie> She grins knowingly at Karkanna.
  27. [13:42] <Karkanna> "Hell yes, let's get to it."
  28. [13:42] <~CelestialDoggie> Kelenne thumps a fist on the bar. "She's too asleep, just had her share to me for...safekeeping."
  29. [13:43] <Sorneia> Sorneia just gives a blank stare. She doesn't care much about money.
  30. [13:43] <Andrea> Andrea stands. "I'll bear the burden, if you're worse for wear Karkanna."
  31. [13:44] * Karkanna gets to her feet. "I'm fine, just hungover. I had a late night."
  32. [13:47] <~CelestialDoggie> "Sounds like just about every other dwarf I know," Miesta replies, nodding knowingly. "Anyway, c'mon outside."
  33. [13:48] <~CelestialDoggie> She hops down from her chair and heads out of the tavern, casting a quick look over her shoulder as she exits the door.
  34. [13:48] <Andrea> Andrea follows, stretching as she walks, platinum scales catching the sun as she steps out the door.
  35. [13:49] * Karkanna heads outside.
  36. [13:51] <Ethlem> Eth'lem folds the paper and slips it into a pocket as she follows the others outside.
  37. [13:52] <Sorneia> Sorneia follows silently.
  38. [13:52] <~CelestialDoggie> The halfling leads you out and around the corner of Kelenne's building, where a small cart pulled by a pony sits. Inside it are a number of cloth bags, each tied off with a black ribbon. She lifts one--with visible effort--and gives it a shake, and the bag's contents clinks gently.
  39. [13:53] <~CelestialDoggie> "Five hundred gold in each bag, as promised," she says, nodding, and passing the first one to Karkanna.
  40. [13:53] * Karkanna takes it. "You know just how to get to a girl's heart, don't ya."
  41. [13:54] <~CelestialDoggie> "Well, being a dwarf, it's this, more beer--which your cousin does better than I ever could--or jewels, right?" She hands the other bags out--and there's one extra inside the cart, this one tied off with blue instead.
  42. [13:54] <Karkanna> "That's about right."
  43. [13:55] <~CelestialDoggie> The bags feel lighter than she made them out to be, only weighing a few pounds...far less than that much metal is supposed to weigh.
  44. [13:55] * Karkanna cocks an eyebrow and opens her bag.
  45. [13:56] * Andrea takes hers without looking, grinning at Miesta.
  46. [13:56] <~CelestialDoggie> Gold glistens brightly in the midday sun.
  47. [13:56] * Ethlem eyes up the bag in her hands with a thoughtful expression, turning it this and that way.
  48. [13:56] * Karkanna looks back up at Miesta. "Weight's not right."
  49. [13:57] <~CelestialDoggie> "Well yeah. You didn't actually think *I* could lift five hundred pieces' worth, did you? They're magic, bigger on the inside than the outside. Bag itself only ever weighs the same amount."
  50. [13:57] <Karkanna> "Fancy."
  51. [13:59] <~CelestialDoggie> The blue-tied bag, she saves for last, pulling the thread off and sticking her arm inside. The limb is swallowed up to her shoulder as she roots around for something. "Where are they, where are--ah hah!" Withdrawing her hand, she has a handful of small items in it.
  52. [13:59] <~CelestialDoggie> "One of these for each of you. You did something for me, I do something for you. You ever get yourselves in trouble with the law in town here--serious trouble, mind you, not drunk and disorderly--you show this to a guard captain. Got it?"
  53. [13:59] <~CelestialDoggie> The items are badges, or perhaps pins. Mostly blue, they are in the shape of a stylized eye, wide open as if to catch every iota of movement.
  54. [13:59] <Karkanna> "Gotcha."
  55. [14:00] <Ethlem> "Oh, okay..." Eth'lem looks at the pin curiously, before putting that in the same pocket as the letter.
  56. [14:00] <Andrea> "Interesting..." Andrea peers at it. "Should we avoid wearing them openly?"
  57. [14:00] * Karkanna sticks it in her pocket. "Well, I've got a bunch of money to use very irresponsibly. How about you ladies?"
  58. [14:00] <~CelestialDoggie> She nods. "As hidden as you can."
  59. [14:04] <Ethlem> "Do you know of any shelters in town?" Eth'lem asks as she directs her attention to Miesta
  60. [14:04] <~CelestialDoggie> She cocks her head to the side. "What kind of shelters?"
  61. [14:04] * Victoria conceals the pin on the inside of her robes.
  62. [14:05] <Ethlem> "Poor houses, free clinics. That kind of thing." the white haired girl clarifies.
  63. [14:09] <~CelestialDoggie> "Oh." She blinks. "Sure, yeah. There's a temple of Dol Arrah down in the Grangehall Ward, has a huge room just for caring for guttersnipes like--and Boldrei's got a place next door in Rordan's Gate. I think they cater to poor families."
  64. [14:14] * Sorneia similarly holds the pin within her hooded robes, hidden well out of sight. "I am... unsure how I will use this gold."
  65. [14:14] <Karkanna> "I'm going to a brothel."
  66. [14:15] <~CelestialDoggie> "Anyway, thanks again for heading out to the mountains for me. We'll be in touch." She hops up onto her pony, and she and her cart trundle away.
  67. [14:15] <Andrea> Andrea waves her away before turning back to the tavern. "I prefer to trade my gold for good steel."
  68. [14:16] * Ethlem ties the bag tightly to her belt "Alright, thank you." she replies to the half-ling, waving good bye before she smiles brightly at the rest of the group "I'll be back later." she announces, turning on her heel and heading for Grangehall Ward.
  69. [14:17] <Andrea> "Do you want me to go with you, Eth'lem?"
  70. [14:19] <Ethlem> "If you wish." she replies with a sweet smile. "I'm sure everyone has errands they want to run after being paid."
  71. [14:19] <Victoria> "I have no buisness in a town." Victoria says with her usual no emotion, leaving the meaning of it a little confusing.
  72. [14:20] <Sorneia> "My only business is tending to the flora... it takes little time."
  73. [14:20] <Ethlem> "You're welcome to come with then." the cleric offers
  74. [14:22] <Andrea> Andrea smiles. "I could use a walk, and I did promise to take care of you. Even for one with your strength, a city can be a danger."
  75. [14:23] <~CelestialDoggie> Almost as if to emphasize Andrea's point, there's a hue and cry as a different wagon to Miesta's cart screeches sideways on the cobblestones, knocking a pair of pedestrians over and apparently running over someone's foot.
  76. [14:23] <Ethlem> Eth'lem gives Andrea an inquisitive look "... It is?" she seems surprised by this...
  77. [14:24] <Ethlem> "Oh my...!" the cleric is off in a second flat, hurrying over towards the pedestrians
  78. [14:25] * Karkanna is already gone.
  79. [14:25] <Andrea> Andrea is moving that way as well. "Are you alright?"
  80. [14:27] <~CelestialDoggie> The people knocked over are fine. The man whose foot fell victim to the wagon seems to be in considerable pain, though, holding his leg while sitting on the ground.
  81. [14:28] <Ethlem> The white haired girl kneels down beside him "Don't move, let me have a look..." she tells him softly, as she lays a hand on his foot.
  82. [14:29] * Andrea looks up, to see if the cart stopped or kept going
  83. [14:31] <~CelestialDoggie> The cart has stopped some way forward, and the driver--a woman, by her figure, in a cloak, with strands of red hair poking out of it--stands beside it, wringing her hands nervously. "Is he going to be alright?" she asks, her voice carrying a different accent to the rest of the local populace.
  84. [14:31] <~CelestialDoggie> Eth'lem pulls the man's boot off and rolls up his leg. There is a nasty bruise forming on top of his foot, and it looks like there will be plenty of swelling, but practiced fingers move as if by muscle memory, and you do not detect any broken bones.
  85. [14:32] * Andrea walks over to her, frowning slightly. "He should be, Eth'lem is a great healer, but it was your recklessness that injured him. What do you think you were doing?"
  86. [14:33] * Ethlem looks relieved as she smiles at him "Nothing broken." she tells him, before gently pressing the palm of her hands against the bruise. "This'll just take a moment."
  87. [14:35] <~CelestialDoggie> The woman looks at Andrea, and the dragonborn catches a flash of green eyes under the cloak's hood. "I was driving my cart as normal," she replies reasonably. "Unless you think I can somehow force it to travel sideways, against the wheels' direction?"
  88. [14:36] <~CelestialDoggie> Eth'lem's hands glow with a soft and pearly light for a moment; when it fades away the injury is almost completely eased, with only a slight reddening of the skin on top of his foot as any indication.
  89. [14:36] <~CelestialDoggie> The man ceases his yelling, gazing at Eth'lem in wonder.
  90. [14:37] <Ethlem> "There! Good as new." The cleric smiles happily at him as she hands back his boot.
  91. [14:39] <Andrea> Andrea frowns, crossing her arms. "Then, do you have any idea what could have caused it?"
  92. [14:39] <~CelestialDoggie> He slowly puts it back on. "Th-thank you, miss," he says. "I...I thought that'd cost me my job, bein' laid up wi'out a foot for who knows how long. Yer a real life-saver."
  93. [14:41] <Ethlem> "Anytime. I'm glad that I was here to help." Eth'lem tells him sincerely as she gets back to her feet, looking over towards Andrea and the cart driver.
