  1. "Granny... I don't want to go in the water..."
  2. >"Come now Anon, there is no need to be afraid. I'm here."
  3. "But it's dark... I can't see where I walk... What if there are monster in the sea?"
  4. >"Don't be afraid... Come, I'll tell you a secret about the ocean..."
  5. >To say that diving in the waves painted orange by the setting sun was a leap of faith was an understatement for young Anon.
  6. >He quickly swam to latch on his grandmother, despite her age; she had kept a vitality that in retrospect seemed inhuman.
  7. >"There, it wasn't so bad, right?"
  8. "D-don't drop me!"
  9. >"I will never let you down Anon... Now listen closely..."
  10. >...
  11. "What am I supposed to hear?"
  12. >"Shh... Just listen..."
  13. >...
  14. "I can't hear anything..."
  15. >"Listen closely Anon... You'll hear the heart of the ocean..."
  16. >...
  17. "It's just the waves granny..."
  18. >"No... It's her... She says tonight is peaceful in her kingdom..."
  19. "Who?"
  20. >"The Queen of the Water."
  21. "You're crazy..."
  22. >"Okay, I'm going further in..."
  23. "Hey! Wait! I wanna stay close to the beach!"
  24. >"Too late... And you're coming with me..."
  25. "Granny!! It's not funny!"
  26.
  27.
  28. >Many years later.
  29.
  30. >The song of a too noisy exotic bird wakes Anon up.
  31. >After his morning rituals, the green skinned man dons his usual attire (black pants and loosely buttoned white shirt) before stepping outside of the hut of bamboos and palm leaves.
  32. >Before him, emerald plants, flowers more colorful than all the precious stones in the world, white sand and covering the whole horizon with its cape of azure, the Ocean.
  33. >The Gallopagos Archipelago.
  34. >Anon didn't know why he was here, in this curious seaside community of ponies wearing shells for sole ornament and living of fishing, algae harvest and the occasional tourist.
  35. >His story was the same every time he told it; he simply woke up on the beach one morning.
  36. >The princesses had paid multiple visits to this remote part of Equestria, to make sure the visitor from another world wouldn't do anything stupid...
  37. >Every time, the villagers threw a memorable party to greet the Alicorns, and as the evenings spent in the company of the rulers trickled by, punctuated by games, challenges and dances, the Stranger became a friend and before he knew it, part of the village.
  38. >This peculiar morning didn’t announce any changes from the norm, the many mandatory tasks that could use a pair of opposable thumbs kept the Homo sapiens busy enough.
  39. >Yet, after lunch…
  40. >“So, how was it?” asked a pegasus mare with crimson mane and brown coat.
  41. “Too salty, Paradise, way too salty.”
  42. >“Oh silly Anon, it’s mashed bananas, how can it be salty?”
  43. “Mmh, maybe you used salt instead of sugar… Just sayin’…”
  44. >Anon could only be a little frightened as he saw her paling, becoming as white as death.
  45. >“Tell me you’re joking…”
  46. >Your only answer was to push the barely touched wooden bowl towards the apprentice cook.
  47. “You tell me…”
  48. >…
  49. *splash*
  50. >“You’re so meaaaan~!!”
  51. “…”
  52. >>”Covering your face in inedible food and making my niece cry once again, Anon?”
  53. “Greetings mayor mare. I’m just happy it’s not the chili of last month… I still got burns behind the ears…”
  54. >>“Would you like coming with for the ritual of offerings? Maybe you need to ask forgiveness to The Queen?”
  55. “I’ll apologize for not doing anything wrong to Paradise later… But yeah, I’ll come with you… Can you give me a moment to wash the remnants of my dessert away?”
  56. >>”Please do, it is not polite to show yourself like that to our ancestors.”
  57.
  58. “… I mean, I understand that she wants to make herself useful, but let’s be serious for a moment, this is bordering on murder!”
  59. >>“She has her head among the clouds Anon, dear. It’s a filly thing, you wouldn’t understand.”
  60. “Mmh… If you say so… But it’s becoming really tiresome… The villagers are always asking me to go talk to her after she makes a mistake… I’m not a negotiator or a scapegoat!”
  61. >>“Aren’t you glad your neighbors find you so trustworthy?”
  62. “One day, I’ll end up in the shaman’s tent after lunch… And I might never get out…”
  63. >>“You’re exaggerating; Cactus Juice would give your remains a proper burial… After taking as many of your bones he could and grind them into a fine powder that he would use to cure illnesses…”
  64. “Great… I’m looking forward to it…”
  65. >>“Mmh… I should have brought more presents; it is a little short to ask for a new sense of humor to gift you…”
  66. “I need to remember that salted mashed bananas make you the funniest mare on Equestria.”
  67. >>”Vile flatterer, please, wait here for a moment…”
  68. >The Queen of The Ocean had a small altar on top of a cliff.
  69. >Guarded by totems representing long departed villagers stood the stone statue of a pony with a fish-like tail, adorned with necklaces of shells and earrings of gold.
  70. >Mayor knelt before the effigy and tossed to the sea what was left of the previous gifts to the goddess, before lighting an incense candle and motioning you to bring the basket of flowers, fruits, shells and other token of gratitude from the ponies.
  71. >As you lay the many objects on the stone altar, you notice a puppet of clay fashioned after, what you suppose to be yourself.
  72. >It could have been an unfortunately shaped sea-star, but the parts painted black, white and green didn’t add up to that theory.
  73. >>“Put that down Anonymous. It is not a toy.”
  74. “Sorry… Can you tell me what it means to gift a likeness of someone to the Queen?”
  75. >>“Curious aren’t you?”
  76. “Don’t try to dodge that question.”
  77. >>“Haha, you are getting smarter, child, very well. It means someone wishes you to be wed. If the one who made it put a seed inside, it means that pony wants you to be happy with the one you choose, if it is a shell, it is the pony who made it who wants to marry you.”
  78. “Haha! A secret admirer! How cute!”
  79. >…
  80. >>“Do not dare to think about breaking the doll. There are few blasphemies as horrible as this one.”
  81. “The idea didn’t even cross my mind…”
  82.
  83. >The sun was setting on the village.
  84. >Anon ate with the mayor as only company tonight, everyone else having fled the common hut as to avoid Paradise’s evening cooking.
  85. >Finishing his plate, the “guest to ponykind” took the dishes with him and walked inside the kitchen.
  86. “Paradise, you still here?”
  87. >Indeed she was here, but the Pegasus was intently focused on some imaginary stain in the wooden bowl she tried to clean with increasing anger.
  88. “Umm… Sorry... About earlier?”
  89. >“…”
  90. “Hey, don’t give me the silent treatment… I’m really gonna feel lonely.”
  91. >”Serves you right.”
  92. “I’m sorry for criticizing your cooking?”
  93. >“…”
  94. “It was really good tonight?”
  95. *splat*
  96. >One of the 2 bowls Anon was holding is once again full of cooked algae.
  97. >”Eat it.”
  98. >Anon hates cooked algae, both know it.
  99. >Yet, he did ate the slimy, elastic, salty, medicine tasting content of his plate, with a smile.
  100. >”Seconds?”
  101. “I’m good.”
  102. >“Sorry… For yelling… And covering you in dessert…”
  103. “Heh, can’t stay mad at the cutest thing that ever lived. Just promise me to be more attentive next time.”
  104. >“I promise…”
  105. “How many times have we had that conversation?”
  106. >“17 times…”
  107. “So much time has passed…”
  108. >“Umm… Anon, it’s gonna be the full moon again soon… And I was wondering… Umm, if the princesses come… Like every 2 full moon… there is gonna be a party and I kinda wanted to… Have the 1st dance… with you.”
  109. “Oh… … You know what? Sure!”
  110. >”Really? Oh blessed be the Queen!”
  111. “Haha, alright, calm down filly, you’re gonna break something…”
  112. >“I’m not a filly anymore!”
  113. “Still too cute to be a full grown mare.”
  114. >“Mph! Goodnight Anon!”
  115. >The biped quickly gave the irritated Pegasus a peck on the cheek.
  116. “Sweet dreams, Paradise.”
  117.
  118. >The last ray of the sun had just vanished under the waves when Anon plunged after it in the dark waters.
  119. >He let mysterious rhythm of the ebb and flow lull him to peace…
  120. >And once again, tried to hear Her…
  121. >He was counting in his head.
  122. >20, 21, … 45, 46, …
  123. >The numbers followed themselves quickly, then…
  124. >A thousand…
  125. >*ba-dump*
  126. “She is here…”
  127. >It came with a wave, no different from all the others, but he felt it, inside the water.
  128. *Ba-dump!*
  129. “Two…”
  130. >It was like a gigantic drum, the sound reverberating inside his body, he imagined it bouncing in his lungs.
  131. *Ba-Dump!*
  132. “Three…”
  133. >It was stronger, as if the source was closer, maybe he had already drifted too far?
  134. >…
  135. >Nothing?
  136. >That was unusual…
  137. >In all of his nocturne swims, never was a session so short.
  138. >He righted his stance and looked around him.
  139. >Darkness was the only thing around the human.
  140. >There was no island in sight.
  141. “Okay… This is bad… Don’t look down…”
  142. >So far from the shore, there was only one thing below the stray creature.
  143. >A deep black abyss.
  144. >Filled with every single nightmare the child that Anon once was ever dreaded.
  145. >Trusting his instinct, the man swam where his heart told him.
  146. >He didn’t know for how long he fought against the shadows when something touched his leg.
  147. “Calm down… it’s your imagination pulling tricks on you Anon…”
  148. >He resumed his struggle, only to feel the spectral caress once more.
  149. >He jerked his arm out of the water.
  150. “It’s… only my mind… Playing tricks…”
  151. >He ran a hand alongside the now shivering member, and his heart stopped for a moment.
  152. >There was something slimy where he had felt the unseen threat.
  153. “Alright… It’s just an alga… it’s just as gross and oily…”
  154. >This time, he wasn’t able to restart his blind retreat.
  155. >It was there.
  156. >Snaking its way upwards, around his right leg.
  157. >His brain screamed for him not to look down.
  158. >However, Anon did gaze towards his feet.
  159. >And he could not scream when a pair of yellow eyes met his.
  160. >Before the human could react, there was a sharp pull and his head disappeared, swallowed by the inky depths.
  161.
  162.
  163. >Surrounded by the walls of his watery grave, Anon had just to wait for his lungs to fail him…
  164. >Yet, no amount of saltwater invaded his nose and mouth.
  165. >It was soft on his lips and tongue.
  166. >It was soft on his cheeks and torso.
  167. >He opened his eyes.
  168. >And he saw, the creature’s long hair, waltzing with the current under the waves.
  169. >He couldn’t see her traits, their mouths locked together, she was letting him breathe through her…
  170. >To be honest, Anon wasn’t sure it was a “she”, but if the loving caresses of her hands on his face and the 2 warm orbs pressed against him were any indication, he hoped it was a she.
  171. >Delicately, but with enough force, she broke the kiss.
  172. >And it took our hero a full second when his brain failed to comprehend why he wasn’t drowning yet…
  173. >Something had changed in him… He wasn’t sure what, but the sting of the seawater in his breathing system or his eyes was absent.
  174. >He looked at his savior, beholding the mysterious pony of the ocean.
  175. >“Good evening, creature of another land.”
  176. “Good evening… Miss?”
  177. >“Come now, you spent so many night basking in my presence and you don’t know who I am?”
  178. “What are you talking about?”
  179. >The next second, the scaly arms/flippers mix were holding Anon's head next to her breasts.
  180. >"Shh... Just listen..."
  181. *BA-DUMP!*
  182. "You... Are real?"
  183. >"Now I take offense to that, land dweller."
  184. >At that point, there must have been a short circuit in Anon's brain as instead of pinching himself to check on the reality of this phenomenon, he pinched what he hand under his hands...
  185. >The reaction from the fish-horse was instantaneous.
  186. *SLAP!*
  187. >"You ungrateful creature! That hurts!" she yelled, covering the ô so enticing protrusions on her chest…
  188. "S-sorry I didn't mean to-!"
  189. *TAIL SMACK!*
  190. >"You shall learn your place! Mammal! You are in my domain!"
  191. >After half a dozen spins on himself the human managed to straighten his pose...
  192. "My sincerest apologies, Queen, it's just... It's a very unusual situation for me to find myself hugged by your kin... I mean... Aren't you a god?"
  193. >"And? Don't think I didn't saw you acting so intimate with The Princess of The Sun! You lecherous beast!"
  194. "Wh- For your information, we're just friends, and she was drunk that night..."
  195. >"HAH! Drunk?! An Alicorn?! You were played for a fool, mortal, Alicorns can't get drunk!"
  196. "... You can't be serious... She pretended being drunk to fondle me?!"
  197. >"Hah! so you confess! I should have known you were no better than stallions, out of my sight, we have no more reason to tolerate your presence in our kingdom!"
  198. >...
  199. "Okay. Just tell me where my island is."
  200. >"... I can't just leave you here, can I? Give me your leg."
  201. >...
  202. >"Your fore-leg."
  203. "We call these 'arms' where I come from."
  204. >"Useless semantics."
  205.
  206.
  207. >Pulled by the immortal creature, you were able to see the shore that lead to the village after only a minute.
  208. >"Go back to them, and do not come back tomorrow, you will not hear me."
  209. "..."
  210. >"..."
  211. "I humbly ask for your forgiveness. But I shall come back tomorrow at the same time."
  212. >"You will be disappointed..."
  213. "Then I'll keep coming back until I can hear you once more."
  214. >"Hah! I shall outlive your patience!"
  215. "Then I'll grow old and die in your embrace..."
  216. >"..."
  217. "..."
  218. >"Ask for my pardon the proper way then. Goodbye."
  219. "Thank you, Queen."
  220. >"And learn my proper name!"
  221. >...
  222. >And so... Anon walked, from the bottom of the sea to the beach...
  223. >He regretted leaving the saltwater as he threw up liters after liter of the liquid immediately after his torso was out of the ocean.
  224. *ba... dump...*
  225. >Whatever she had done to him... Had disappeared...
  226.
  227. >Anon was not a morning person.
  228. >However, waking up only a moment before lunch was an habit reserved for the day after the biggest of parties.
  229. >>“Morning to you, Anonymous. Trouble sleeping? Or waking up?”
  230. “Morning mayor, sorry about that.”
  231. >>“Fret not, the village can still works without you running around.”
  232. “Still… Plus, I need a favor.”
  233. >>“Now this is unusual. How may this old mare be useful to you?”
  234. “How do I ask forgiveness to The Queen of The Ocean?”
  235. >>”…”
  236. “…”
  237. >>“Child… What have you done?”
  238. “Nothing! Well… Nothing that would harm the village I swear! It’s… personal…”
  239. >Anon wanted to add “between her and me”, but the Mayor’s inquisitive stare dissuaded him.
  240. >>“Does it have anything to do with your lateness?”
  241. “… Yeah…”
  242. >>“So it was a dream… About her?”
  243. “… Yeah?”
  244. >>“I see, dreams are indeed her favorite way to talk to her subject… But I didn’t take you for a dreamwalker…”
  245. “Neither did I… So, forgiveness?”
  246. >>“I hope you still remember how to carve wood, for today, we will sculpt an effigy.”
  247. “Great…”
  248. >>“Please, hide your enthusiasm…”
  249.
  250. >The knife is an extremely symbolic tool in the village, as it is without fault used every day.
  251. >Once a foal is old and skilled enough to perform all the tasks that allow the village to live, like the maintenance of fishing nets and boats, woodcarving, hunting and gathering, a ceremony is held, where the mayor and the shaman grant the new adult his proofs of maturity:
  252. >A tattoo, mark of obedience to the Queen and respect to The Spirits.
  253. >And the knife, bought from the Griffons of the Continent, tangible trace of your usefulness to the community.
  254. >Anon did the rituals many years ago, earning him an inked scar in the back and a what any pony would call “a very sharp shortsword”.
  255. >The whole afternoon was spent in focused silence near the Altar to the Goddess, occasionally broken by the leader as she added instructions to the newly converted cultist…
  256. “Well… it’s starting to look like something…”
  257. >>“Indeed… But that something isn’t what we’re aiming for…”
  258. “Hey… The last time I did that was when I claimed my hut… I’m a little rusty…”
  259. *tak*
  260. >Mayor’s 4th effigy just joined its siblings on the altar.
  261. >>”Alright, only 2 more grandsons… Then the nieces and nephews…”
  262. “Done with the boasting?…”
  263. >>“Have I ever told you the story when the Griffon Khan Coppereye asked me to make a statue of his wife for her birthday?”
  264. “And to thank you for your job well done he gifted the village with a new well of drinkable water, the earrings on the statue and the clothes of silk we use for the great ceremony… yes…”
  265. >>“Let me tell it once more, you are terrible at storytelling.”
  266. “Sweet mother of… Hold on! I just remembered something! Does the Queen have a name?”
  267. >>“A… Name?”
  268. “Huh, yeah? Like, the Princess of the Day is Celestia, the Princess of the Night is Luna… should I continue?”
  269. >>“… I can’t seem to remember such a thing…”
  270. “Really? What about Cactus Juice?”
  271. >>”This is a highly disrespectful name for a goddess…”
  272. “I’m asking if our shaman might know… Senile granny…”
  273. >>“I doubt our medicine-stallion can be more knowledgeable than I regarding The Queen… But… Now that I think of it… My grandmother once mentioned something about a secret about The Queen…”
  274. “Your grandmother… The one who… during the typhoon?”
  275. >>“… Yes…”
  276. “Sorry… I know the memory isn’t pleasant…”
  277. >>“… I will be fine… I might not be as young as you are, but I am not made of glass…”
  278. “…”
  279. >>“…”
  280. “…”
  281. >>“… SO! Khan Coppereye was-“
  282. “Sweet mother of-!!“
  283.
  284.
  285. >Anon didn’t leave to eat this evening.
  286. >Paradise did come to check on her aunt and on the human, bringing tonight’s supper as well.
  287. >As the sun was setting, all 3 were on the beach, away from the village, under the statue’s gaze of stone.
  288. >>“Now, push the boat with the Queen’s effigy to the ocean…”
  289. “I’m not sure the palm leaf will do its job…”
  290. >“Just have faith in auntie… And in The Queen.”
  291. >So, the biped obeyed, letting the waves take the large leaf with its precious wooden cargo.
  292. >To the green creature’s surprise, the vegetal embarkation didn’t yield under the weight of the effigy, better yet, it was slowly floating away from his legs!
  293. >>“The incense held by your gift will draw Her attention to it…”
  294. “And?”
  295. >“And now we wait.”
  296. >A particularly vicious wave then crashed upon the poor vessel, sending it back at the sender…
  297. “Let me guess… That’s not a good omen…”
  298. >>“No… Not yet, it just means that you have to try again…”
  299. >“But it is indeed not a relishing start…”
  300. >Anon could only be amazed that the incense stick wasn’t extinguished, taking this as a sign, he replayed the launch a second time…
  301. >And a third…
  302. >And a fourth…
  303. >“Maybe She isn’t in her domain tonight?”
  304. >>“Mmh… you should try again tomorrow, child.”
  305. “… I feel like I’m trying to contact an administration from where I was born…”
  306. >It was then that a violent gust of wind almost sent the three islanders to their knees.
  307. >>“Paradise, my dear… What does this wind whisper to you?”
  308. >“It is strong… We should hurry back to the village…”
  309. >>“Come now Anon, tonight isn’t the right time…”
  310. “Alright… Just… One more try. I’ll follow you immediately…”
  311. >“Anon…”
  312. >>“I am counting on you, Anonymous… The tribe might need your help if this wind turns into tempest…”
  313. “I’ll be there. I promise.”
  314. >>“Come, Paradise…”
  315. >…
  316. >Anon let the ocean take his gift once again...
  317. >Puerile toy in the hands of the cruel body of water, the mortal could only watch the emerald colored shape twists, raises, falls, spins and disappears behind the growing waves.
  318. >And when the hope that he had finally succeed was starting to bloom in his heart, a monstrous, black as ink oceanic blade rose above the present.
  319. >It hung menacingly like a guillotine over the tragic hero of Anon’s handcraft for what seemed like an eternity, as if taunting the mammal.
  320. >Sadly. The suspense didn’t last forever, gravity sealing the doom of the human’s hopes, the nightmarish maw of water fell.
  321. “*sigh* getting so worked up over a palm leave and a piece of wood… This place is making me crazy…”
  322. >”Good evening, inhabitant of the land…”
  323. >There she was.
  324. >Lying on her back, her leathery breasts hidden under the palm leaf while her belly was fully on display under the light of the moon, shining like ivory dotted with droplets that disguised themselves as pearls by reflecting her colors.
  325. >In her mouth was the incense stick, held like a noblelady would with a cigarette-holder.
  326. >And in her flippers was the statuette, being inspecting carefully by the one after which it was fashioned.
  327. >The claws paused for a second, before the mythical creature righted her pose, turning her back to the human.
  328. >But even from so far away, the movement left little to imagination as she muttered:
  329. >“Have my breasts grown again?”
  330. >Trying her hardest to not clue Anon further in her sudden spike of self-consciousness, she immediately swam as close as she could to the land-lubber, resting her elbows in the wet sand while her lower half stayed under water.
  331. >”You could have tried to make me look more svelte… That old effigy of stone doesn’t do me justice…”
  332. >It took all of Anon’s self control to not comment on what he deemed “not fat, but perfect representation of a magnificent specimen of child-bearing hips”…
  333. “Does that mean that you accept my apology?”
  334. >“Heh, I always liked the sound of ‘merciful’ added to my title. I forgive you, land-dweller.”
  335. “Well… umm, then… I think I can’t stay much longer… There might be a storm tonight and the others might need me.”
  336. >“Fear not for your fellows, this storm will not touch your island… But if you do not wish to stay…”
  337. *splash*
  338. >And so, Anon was mimicking the divinity’s pose.
  339. “If you allow my presence, then, it shall be my pleasure.”
  340. >“A wise decision, how about a game? I have been looking for someone to play with for quite some time.”
  341. “I have no reasons to refuse, what kind of game?”
  342. >The half-pony half-dolphin traced in the sand a grid pattern with her claws as a minuscule army of mollusks and fish brought a collection of shells.
  343. >The game was overly complicated, the minuscule crabs that waited at each crossing of lines were tasked of hold the shells that represented the pawns on the strange board, the rule was to use a special shaped shell to capture areas of the grid, while your opponent had to prevent you from doing so and capture as much territory as she could, occasionally, an invertebrate would move independently, changing entirely the way your pawn had to move to gain ground.
  344. >The 1st game ended with a crushing defeat for the newbie, as only 3 crabs on the 60 were holding green shells, representing Anon’s faction.
  345. >The 5 games that followed were hardly any better, and the man started to believe that the creatures of the sea were cheating to make him lose.
  346. >However, our hero picked up the hidden rules of the game quite quickly, and after 2 more games, the goddess stopped taunting him after every move to focus on her strategy…
  347. >At the end of the end of the 8th game, The Queen lost due to her own inattention.
  348. >And on the 11th, Anon won fair and square.
  349. >The games continued on wider and wider “boards” when a turtle and a bird joined the hostilities… as player.
  350. >The oceanic mare had to translate many questions of the 2 guests to her green partner and laughed at their absolutely cryptic jokes of sea creatures...
  351. >Yet… Anon did have fun, and the many times the beauty of the waves was lying still, lost in the planning of her next move, gave the young man plenty of occasions to admire her form(s).
  352. >Anon could have spent ages describing the hypnotic splendor of her fins that ended her tail, or the smaller two on her hips and the one resting between her shoulders, blades of bones to split the waves like a spear through butter…
  353. >He could have spent centuries describing her long, anthracite mane that danced with the wind like the banner of the most beautiful kingdom, her black leathery skin that protected her back and stretched to her face, with its streaks of yellow, Anon’s hand remembered how tough it felt, betraying the incredible strength of her muscles, but smooth, quiet strength made material, cuirass made to hide the milky white treasure of her soft belly or, much higher, the pair of enticing fruits, and a little lower, a valley promising a thousand blessings…
  354. >Finally, there were her eyes, in which the child’s heart had plunged when she had inspired the breath of the ocean in him…
  355. >”Human? It is your turn? Hello?”
  356. “Huh? Oh! S-sorry… Wait? When did I win so much territory?”
  357.
  358. >At the end of this battle, the bird and the turtle left, promising to come back to play at a later date.
  359. >With a wave of her flippers, the army disbanded and a wave crashed upon the board, washing it away while making sure to pin Anon’s face in the sand.
  360. >The Queen on her side, shook her mane widely, smiling, as if the contact of the ocean on her head and torso had been missing for far too long…
  361. >“I admit being hungry, would you like to eat something?”
  362. “Sounds like a plan. What do you eat anyway? Algae as well?”
  363. >A snap of claws later and a crab, as big as a vinyl record, emerged from the beach before waddling to its monarch.
  364. >When she started to pet the animal, Anonymous thought she was coaxing him into a search for some sea vegetation.
  365. >Suddenly, there was a sound like a whistle and the crab fell. Split in two.
  366. >Broken by a blade of highly pressurized water.
  367. >She held a half towards Anon, grinning, her sharp pointy teeth gleaming under the moonlight.
  368. >“It has been ages since I could eat meat with an equestrian.”
  369. “Thanks… Are you going to eat that raw?”
  370. >“What a strange question… Is there another way to consume this meal?”
  371. “Hold it for me for a moment…”
  372.
  373. >Minutes later, the crab was cooked, the bonfire lit by Anon, already extinguished by a particularly fast wave.
  374. “Here, you use this to pick at the meat, ripping pieces to eat slowly after blowing on it, else you’ll burn your tongue.”
  375. >“How do you call that thing?”
  376. “A fork. Griffin nobles use these… Occasionally… Almost never…”
  377. >”I see, it was made for beings with claws… or telekinesis.”
  378. “Yeah. Do you often eat your subjects?”
  379. >“Do not be silly, Stranger to our world, my only subjects are the ponies that live in my domain, animals are animals… Except turtles and dolphins, I have too many friends within these circles…”
  380. “Rii~ght… So, you like?”
  381. >“It’s not very salty… I like it.”
  382.
  383. “… and so, Cactus Juice looks at me, in his hooves a vial filled with leeches, and smiling broadly, he asks, ‘how’s my new recipe?’ to this day, I still shiver when I see licorice.”
  384. >“This is horrifying…”
  385. “I’ll tell you about how he makes toffees another night…”
  386. >“Please, don’t… I like toffees…”
  387. “Really? I’ll try to trade some next time the Griffins pass by…”
  388. >“There is no need to do such things, besides, I doubt even the Princesses of Equestria’s friend can afford such delicacy.”
  389. “Huu… Last time, he was selling a basket of it for… I think I got it for a single red edelweiss… A little less than 6 bits I believe…”
  390. >“You’re lying…”
  391. “Why would I be lying?”
  392. >“Oh blessed be the spirits of the hunt! May the Griffins Aeries live forever!”
  393. “When was the last time you ate one of these things? And how much did it cost?”
  394. >“Mortal… A goddess never speaks about a painful memory… It was worth every single bits… at the time… Now… I feel… cheated…”
  395. “You’re being unreasonable… Say, my Queen, you talked about your name yesterday… but, our priestess doesn’t know about such a thing…”
  396. >“Really? How strange, you do live on the same island as the priestess Diamantine? My statue on thei altar is of stone and there is a pair of tacky earrings made by Khan Coppereye himself?”
  397. “Y-yeah! But… There is no-one named Diamantine… Our priestess’ name is Pearlescent.”
  398. >“… Pearlescent… Was the daughter of her daughter… Did anything happened to Diamantine? I instructed her to tell her descendant about my name!”
  399. “She… died, a typhoon destroyed her house…”
  400. >“…”
  401. “My… condolences…”
  402. >“She was the one who invented that game… May her spirit be free…”
  403. >…
  404. “I think it’s time for me to go… It is getting late…”
  405. >“Thank you for your company… I still haven’t asked for your name…”
  406. “Neither have I… I am Anonymous… You should shorten it to Anon, it just sounds better.”
  407. >“Anon-ymous… Very well, then, I will entrust you with my name, I am Lynndra Queen of the Oceans! … You may call me Lynndra… And ‘friend’ if you feel like it.”
  408. “It is an honor, Lynndra.”
  409. >“Thank you, Anon.”
