  1. C-support
  2. Forrest: [frown] Pull!
  3. [shuriken SFX]
  4. Kaze: [surprised] That’s the tenth in a row… truly incredible, Forrest.
  5. Forrest: [embarrassed] It’s nothing, really. I’m sure it doesn’t compare to what you were capable of at my age.
  6. Kaze: Well, I’d had a lifetime of training in a ninja village.
  7. Kaze: Given you first picked up a shuriken a few weeks ago, I’d say your progress is extraordinary.
  8. Forrest: What was it like there?
  9. Kaze: [frown] Igasato? It was… quiet.
  10. Kaze: The village was entirely self-sufficient, and located far from any road or settlement. Even this camp feels unbearably loud sometimes by comparison.
  11. Forrest: Were there many other children there?
  12. Kaze: Not many, no.
  13. Kaze: [smile] Why so curious all of a sudden?
  14. Forrest: I was thinking about what you’ve told me of Father’s past, and I realised I knew almost nothing of yours.
  15. Kaze: [sad] There isn’t much to tell, I’m afraid.
  16. Kaze: And regardless, I forsook all that to follow Aunt/Uncle Avatar.
  17. Forrest: You don’t miss Igasato?
  18. Kaze: [eyes closed] Not at all. There’s nothing left there for me now.
  19. Forrest: [sad] Father…
  20. Kaze: Forgive me – I didn’t mean to dampen the mood so. Shall I prepare some more targets?
  21. Forrest: Please, that would be wonderful.
  22. [Kaze leaves]
  23. Forrest: [sad] He looked so sad. I shouldn’t pester him about it, and yet…
  24.

  26. Forrest: Pull!
  27. [shuriken SFX]
  28. Kaze: [smile] Outstanding aim.
  29. Forrest: So how do ninja train, if not like this?
  30. Kaze: [smile] Why are you so curious?
  31. Forrest: [smile] The truth is, I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be a ninja. I used to run around with padded socks and a scarf around my neck.
  32. Forrest: And while my tutors taught me all about Nohr and Father’s family, I know precious little about Hoshido.
  33. Forrest: [blush, smile] Even since coming here, several soldiers have asked me about Hoshido – but their guess is as good as mine!
  34. Kaze: [smile] Well, you’d know at least a little, surely.
  35. Forrest: About Hoshidan fashion, certainly. But I couldn’t tell you a thing about the people themselves.
  36. Forrest: Are ninja the equivalent of our knights?
  37. Kaze: [frown] No, far from it. That would be samurai.
  38. Kaze: Ninja are hidden assassins. We- they strike from the shadows and protect their lords in silence.
  39. Kaze: There’s no honour or glory in a ninja’s life. They exist so that their lord’s blade need not be dirtied.
  40. Forrest: [sad] That sounds like a lonely life.
  41. Kaze: [smile] Your father once said the same thing.
  42. Forrest: [blush, sweat] Well, I suppose Father is nothing if not astute.
  43.

  45. Kaze: More shuriken training, Forrest?
  46. Forrest: [smile] If I truly do have an aptitude for it, shouldn’t I exploit that?
  47. Kaze: [smile] I suppose so.
  48. Kaze: [sad] I fear I wasn’t entirely truthful with you before, though I didn’t realise it at the time.
  49. Forrest: Oh?
  50. Kaze: When I said there was nothing left for me in Igasato, I was wrong. There is… one person I would like to see again.
  51. Kaze: There was an elderly man there named Itsuki, a former ninja – one of the few who lived long enough to retire.
  52. Kaze: [sad] He took me under his wing, guided me. I should have liked to thank him one last time.
  53. Forrest: You can’t go and see him?
  54. Kaze: [frown] No. Whatever the war’s end brings, Igasato will always regard me as a traitor for following Lord/Lady Avatar.
  55. Forrest: [sad] …And for marrying Father, right?
  56. Kaze: [injured] You don’t need to worry about that.
  57. Forrest: But this Itsuki – if he were your mentor, wouldn’t he understand?
  58. Kaze: [eyes closed] He’d understand, perhaps, but…
  59. Kaze: He was a servant of Lord Sumeragi, and accompanied him to Cheve. He and I were some of the few survivors of King Garon’s ambush.
  60. Forrest: [sad] So for you to defect and marry Garon’s son, no matter what the circumstances…
  61. Kaze: [eyes closed] It would be seen as a particularly repugnant betrayal.
  62. Forrest: [sad] I’m sorry, Father. You’ve had to give up so much to be here.
  63. Kaze: [smile] Please, Forrest, don’t think that way. I made all my choices freely, and I regret nothing.
  64. Forrest: [sad] Even so… It must’ve been hard for you to walk away from that and follow Aunt/Uncle Avatar.
  65. Kaze: [sad] Hard, and yet simple.
  66. Kaze: My time as a ninja was defined by my failure. Once I realised that my true path was to walk away from it entirely…
  67. Kaze: [smile, sweat] It was a relief.
  68. Forrest: [determined] Then… that’s all the more reason you should tell Itsuki, even if he rejects you.
  69. Kaze: [smile] …Perhaps you’re right. Thank you, Forrest.
  70. Kaze: If nothing else, I’d like to tell him of my kind, talented son.
  71. Forrest: [smile, closed eyes] Well, I’ll have to tell him of my wonderful, smart, dedicated father, then!
  72. Kaze: [smile, blush] I don’t think I’ve ever heard you speak of Leo in such glowing terms.
  73. Forrest: [blush, shout] You know very well what I meant.
