- Forrest: [frown] Pull!
- [shuriken SFX]
- Kaze: [surprised] That’s the tenth in a row… truly incredible, Forrest.
- Forrest: [embarrassed] It’s nothing, really. I’m sure it doesn’t compare to what you were capable of at my age.
- Kaze: Well, I’d had a lifetime of training in a ninja village.
- Kaze: Given you first picked up a shuriken a few weeks ago, I’d say your progress is extraordinary.
- Forrest: What was it like there?
- Kaze: [frown] Igasato? It was… quiet.
- Kaze: The village was entirely self-sufficient, and located far from any road or settlement. Even this camp feels unbearably loud sometimes by comparison.
- Forrest: Were there many other children there?
- Kaze: Not many, no.
- Kaze: [smile] Why so curious all of a sudden?
- Forrest: I was thinking about what you’ve told me of Father’s past, and I realised I knew almost nothing of yours.
- Kaze: [sad] There isn’t much to tell, I’m afraid.
- Kaze: And regardless, I forsook all that to follow Aunt/Uncle Avatar.
- Forrest: You don’t miss Igasato?
- Kaze: [eyes closed] Not at all. There’s nothing left there for me now.
- Forrest: [sad] Father…
- Kaze: Forgive me – I didn’t mean to dampen the mood so. Shall I prepare some more targets?
- Forrest: Please, that would be wonderful.
- [Kaze leaves]
- Forrest: [sad] He looked so sad. I shouldn’t pester him about it, and yet…

- Forrest: Pull!
- [shuriken SFX]
- Kaze: [smile] Outstanding aim.
- Forrest: So how do ninja train, if not like this?
- Kaze: [smile] Why are you so curious?
- Forrest: [smile] The truth is, I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be a ninja. I used to run around with padded socks and a scarf around my neck.
- Forrest: And while my tutors taught me all about Nohr and Father’s family, I know precious little about Hoshido.
- Forrest: [blush, smile] Even since coming here, several soldiers have asked me about Hoshido – but their guess is as good as mine!
- Kaze: [smile] Well, you’d know at least a little, surely.
- Forrest: About Hoshidan fashion, certainly. But I couldn’t tell you a thing about the people themselves.
- Forrest: Are ninja the equivalent of our knights?
- Kaze: [frown] No, far from it. That would be samurai.
- Kaze: Ninja are hidden assassins. We- they strike from the shadows and protect their lords in silence.
- Kaze: There’s no honour or glory in a ninja’s life. They exist so that their lord’s blade need not be dirtied.
- Forrest: [sad] That sounds like a lonely life.
- Kaze: [smile] Your father once said the same thing.
- Forrest: [blush, sweat] Well, I suppose Father is nothing if not astute.

- Kaze: More shuriken training, Forrest?
- Forrest: [smile] If I truly do have an aptitude for it, shouldn’t I exploit that?
- Kaze: [smile] I suppose so.
- Kaze: [sad] I fear I wasn’t entirely truthful with you before, though I didn’t realise it at the time.
- Forrest: Oh?
- Kaze: When I said there was nothing left for me in Igasato, I was wrong. There is… one person I would like to see again.
- Kaze: There was an elderly man there named Itsuki, a former ninja – one of the few who lived long enough to retire.
- Kaze: [sad] He took me under his wing, guided me. I should have liked to thank him one last time.
- Forrest: You can’t go and see him?
- Kaze: [frown] No. Whatever the war’s end brings, Igasato will always regard me as a traitor for following Lord/Lady Avatar.
- Forrest: [sad] …And for marrying Father, right?
- Kaze: [injured] You don’t need to worry about that.
- Forrest: But this Itsuki – if he were your mentor, wouldn’t he understand?
- Kaze: [eyes closed] He’d understand, perhaps, but…
- Kaze: He was a servant of Lord Sumeragi, and accompanied him to Cheve. He and I were some of the few survivors of King Garon’s ambush.
- Forrest: [sad] So for you to defect and marry Garon’s son, no matter what the circumstances…
- Kaze: [eyes closed] It would be seen as a particularly repugnant betrayal.
- Forrest: [sad] I’m sorry, Father. You’ve had to give up so much to be here.
- Kaze: [smile] Please, Forrest, don’t think that way. I made all my choices freely, and I regret nothing.
- Forrest: [sad] Even so… It must’ve been hard for you to walk away from that and follow Aunt/Uncle Avatar.
- Kaze: [sad] Hard, and yet simple.
- Kaze: My time as a ninja was defined by my failure. Once I realised that my true path was to walk away from it entirely…
- Kaze: [smile, sweat] It was a relief.
- Forrest: [determined] Then… that’s all the more reason you should tell Itsuki, even if he rejects you.
- Kaze: [smile] …Perhaps you’re right. Thank you, Forrest.
- Kaze: If nothing else, I’d like to tell him of my kind, talented son.
- Forrest: [smile, closed eyes] Well, I’ll have to tell him of my wonderful, smart, dedicated father, then!
- Kaze: [smile, blush] I don’t think I’ve ever heard you speak of Leo in such glowing terms.
- Forrest: [blush, shout] You know very well what I meant.
