Yusuf Khwaja Hamied (born 1936) is a leading Jewish Indian scientist and chairman of Cipla, a socially conscious generic pharmaceuticals company founded by his father Khwaja Abdul Hamied in 1935. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honour by Government of India in 2005. Born in Vilnius, Lithuania,on July 25th 1936. Yusuf Hamied was raised in Mumbai (previously Bombay). His Indian Muslim father and Russophone Jewish mother met in pre-war Berlin, where they both were graduate students.

  73. Jacob-Farj-Rafael "JFR" Jacob (born 1923) is a retired Jewish Indian Army Lieutenant General. He is best known for the role he played in India's victory in the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971 and the Liberation of Bangladesh. Jacob, then a Major General, served as the Chief of Staff of the Indian Army's Eastern Command during the war. During his 36 year career in the army, he also fought in World War II and the Indo-Pakistan War of 1965. He later served as the Governor of the Indian states of Goa and Punjab. Jacob was born in Calcutta (now Kolkata), West Bengal, British India, in 1923. His family were Baghdadi Jews originally from Iraq who settled in Kolkata in the middle of the 18th century. They were "a deeply religious Jewish family." Jacob's father, Elias Emanuel, was an affluent businessman.

Mr. Malekar, in addition to being a scholar of Judaism, is a noted human rights activist and a Deputy Registrar (Law) with the National Human Rights Commission in India. He was a key participant in the 15th International Conference on Human Integration (inaugurated by Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj, a Sikh religious cleric and President of the World Council of Religions), at Kirpal Bagh, New Delhi on February 6, 2006. He is actively involved in inter-faith activities between the Jewish community and the Hindu majority in India, as well as the Sikh community. He has praised the multicultural nature of Indian Society where Judaism had existed for 2,000 years without ever experiencing anti-Semitism. Malekar has also presided over inter-faith marriages. He has asserted that his innate Indianness was infinitely more important than his consciousness of being a Jew.

Two Sassoon baronetcies, both now extinct, were created in 1890 and 1909 respectively, for members of the Anglo-Indo-Iraqi and Indo-Iraqi branches of the Sassoon family of Baghdadi Jewish descent. The Sassoon baronetcy, of Kensington Gore, was created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 22 March 1890 for the Anglo-Iraqi businessman Albert (formerly Abdullah) Sassoon, whose family hailed from Baghdad. The second baronet Sir Edward Sassoon represented Hythe as a Liberal Unionist Party Member of Parliament from May 1899 to his death in 1912. The third Baronet Sir Philip Sassoon was a Conservative British politician, art collector and social host, who represented Hythe in the House of Commons from 1912 and served as Under-Secretary of State for Air from 1924 to 1929 and again from 1931 to 1937, and First Commissioner of Public Works in 1937. He was appointed Privy Councillor in 1929. On his death in 1939 the baronetcy became extinct. The Sassoon baronetcy, of Bombay, was created 9 February 1909 for Sir Albert's nephew Jacob Elias Sassoon. He had no children, so a special remainder enabled his younger brother to inherit. The third baronet was also childless, and the title died out with him in 1961.

A prominent businessman, he was the lead promoter of the Bank of India, founded in 1906. He served on the council of the governor general of India, on the Imperial Legislative Council and the Bombay Municipal Corporation for twenty years, becoming its head in 1921. He was made a knight in 1905 and a baronet in 1911. He had partly financed the construction of the Gateway of India. He was married to Hannah Sassoon, the daughter of Elias David Sassoon. Their son was Sir Percival David, 2nd Baronet.

  159. Sir Albert Abdullah David Sassoon, 1st Baronet, KCB, CSI, (1818 – 1896) was a Jewish British Indian businessman and philanthropist. He was a major benefactor to the city of Bombay; among his gifts were the Sassoon Dock completed in 1875, and a handsome proportion of the cost of Elphinstone High School. In 1867 Sasoon was made a Companion of the Order of the Star of India (CSI) and in 1872 a Knight Companion of the Order of the Bath (KCB). Around the same time he received "Order of Lion and Sun" from Shah of Persia for "work in Persia and his services in development of Persian commerce". In 1873 he visited England and received the freedom of the city of London. Shortly afterwards he settled in England, and was created Baronet Sassoon in 1890. David Sassoon donated Rs. 60000, while the Government of Bombay Presidency bore the remainder of the cost, Rs. 65,000, for the construction of the David Sassoon Library and Reading Room on Rampart Row, Kala Ghoda in Mumbai. Its contraction was completed in 1870 and like many buildings in the vicinity, such as Elphinstone College, Army and Navy Buildings and Watson's Hotel, it was built using yellow Malad stone. The entrance portico bears his white stone bust.

He went to China as an assistant to his father, and later served as head of David Sassoon & Co. until his death. He also served as Chairman of the Sassoon Spinning and Weaving Co. and the Sassoon and Alliance Silk Co. He also served as Chairman of the Board of the Port Canning and Land Improvement Co. and the Oriental Life Assurance Co., two Joint-stock companies. He sat on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Bombay and the Mumbai Port Trust. Sir James Fergusson, 6th Baronet (1832–1907) appointed him twice to the Council of the Governor of Bombay. He was President of the Bombay branch of the Anglo-Jewish Association from 1894. An Orthodox Jew, he had a private synagogue in his home.

  175. Sir Henry Strakosch GBE (1871 – 1943) was a Jewish Austrian-born British South African banker and businessman. He entered banking in the City of London in 1891, then began working for the Anglo-Austrian Bank of South Africa in the 1895. Strakosch became a naturalized British citizen in 1907. He served as a financial adviser to the South African government, and was the author of the 1920 South African Currency and Banking Act.   181. Joseph Rabban (early Malayalam: Issuppu Irappan) was a prominent Jewish merchant chief on the Malabar Coast, India in 11th century AD. According to the Jewish copper-plates of Cochin (AD 1000), a charter issued by the Ceras of Cranganore, Rabban was granted land (rights of Ancuvannam along with the other proprietary rights enjoyed by high ranking Cera nobles) in the Cera kingdom. Rabban's descendants continued to exercise dominion over the Jews of the Malabar coast until a conflict broke out between one of his descendants, Joseph Azar, and his brother in the 1340s. The ensuing strife led to intervention by neighboring potentates and the eradication of Jewish autonomy in southern India.
