  1. The text described eldritch horrors, living between sight and mind, which had beleaguered Elder inhabitants of earth who narrowly escaped them time and again. Upon arriving on the Earth, these first beings flourished, until the horrors came once more through whatever mental ether they conjured. This time they succeeded in fending them off, but in time, they too fell into decay, and their cities had fallen not by aggression, but by time. The book prophesized the return of these cosmic beasts not from beyond, but from below, for deep within the simplest minds there lies the seed for their revival, shaped by them in a last attempt of self preservation. Somewhere, somehow, a simple animal—a fish, or perhaps a reptile—will think wrongly, and ancient horrors will stir once more. They will come from the seas, says the book, when man is at his most fruitful, and they shall do unto us what they have done time and time again unto those who resided here before us.
