- -----------------------------------------
- Warchief:
- Served in Wayrest detachment
- Slightly educated but nowhere near intelligent or well spoken, just slightly above other Orcs
- Civilization had dulled his anger and impulsiveness somewhat, more focused on strategy than brute force
- Tries to emulate how Wayrest officers conducted war, tells you about tactics and orders
- -----------------------------------------
- {I'm here to help release us from this struggle.}
- That's a good start, newblood. But for us to trust ya, we gotta know that your heart is with Malacath, have you submitted fully to his rule?
- {Yes}
- You know how to please me, newblood. An orc that's lost his god has lost his soul, aint a sadder sight. You from around here?
- {Not quite}
- You aren't from these lands are you? Only a foreign-born could shy from Malacath's light.
- {No, I came from Skyrim and was assailed by the Bretons.}
- But here you stand, looks like you can fend well enough for yourself - which are just the skills you need when you're with us.
- Gonna be times where you might not be with your brothers, where the world seems to be set against ya. So I hope you're ready.
- {I am}
- Words aren't enough, newblood. You gotta show me you're committed, and that can only be afforded through blood. So for your first rite, we'll need ya to deal with a breton.
- Boy's eyed him just behind this here camp, probably a scout sent to relay our every step to whoever ordered him. You can spot the sheen from his cap if ya look long enough.
- Get up there and bring us his head, then we'll know you're serious.
- {Here you go, Breton head.}
- Must have been a vicious dance, that Breton blood is hard to wash off. May it be the blood that washes away whatever sympathy you still have for the Manmer...
- {Here you go, his amulet}
- Didn't I ask for a head newblood? For all I know ya probably pinched this from some sorry soul on your way over here.
- {No breton would part with a bauble this valuable}
- You're confused newblood, Bretons are cowards - they'd part with their own mothers to save their sorry hides...
- [Scene where warchief is interrupted by another orc, bringing news of an impending assault]
- Hngggg, what is it? Why interrupt?!
- Huh, guess it's finally time then. Newblood, here's a true test of your loyalty.
- Ready yourself newblood, prove you're not a liar and fend back these pigs.
- [Scene where you and other Orcs defeated assaulting bretons]
- That's right. Run Bretons, run behind your stone.
- How's that for a trial by fire, newblood? You did alright.
- I was doubtin' you're loyalty, newblood. But I see you're as true an orc as any here.
- {Do we have to be so brutal? Why all the impaled bodies?}
- Soft are we? Skyrim that comfortable that the Orc within got dulled? This here is reality for your kin, we fight fire with fire.
- What we do here is chumps change to what those palegig's have committed. Would need a 1000 burning breton cities to break even.
- Would we need to have Orsinium crushed thrice more for you to get it? They want us dead, no two ways about it.
- {Maybe it's because of our own aggression?}
- Speaking nonsense, starting to think you're one of those sly bretons with their illusion magics.
- These manmer have made us sport, we've had scores of Orcs flock here because they've had enough with the hunts - if it weren't here then they'd be dead, or worse.
- Many had to make do within whatever dark corner they could hide in, scavengin' among breton trash for their next meal. Arrivin' hear as nothing but bones.
- Words can't hold a candle to the reality - only way for these "civilized" folk to relent their hate is through our strength.
- They can smack their lips all day about there being no "good grock", no "peaceful orc" - that we're savages by design. But we've seen what they do to those Orcs that try to get on their good side.
- A walking joke, a pet of the breton's making - a trophy to their conquest. That's what the good orc is, nothing more humiliating.
- {We're outnumbered on all sides, why provoke such a fatal outcome?}
- My apologies newblood, shoulda told you earlier. This is a road you can't walk back on - we were meant to survive this.
- We're here to buy time for Orsinium, make sure it can hold against any attack from those outside our kin. Just prayin' that time aint soon.
- {They're planning to assault Orsinium? Again?}
- What? 3rd time didn't give you a hint that this is just routine for them?
- Our new city is mighty close to their precious road, you know, those paths where rich men take gold for rich cities; Silk road they call it.
- And accoridin' to them, we're a threat to that gold. Though we know, they'd have found a reason to come for us regardless.
- This time we're playin' it smart, got ears listenin' in on their plans. Got word from the city that these merchants, and this here kingdom are making plans to raze Orsinium come next winter.
- An entire race over coin - didn't take long for the bretons to decide what they cared more for.
- {So where do we come in?}
- Decoy, fancy word yeah, our task is to confuse the manpigs - get 'em scared of their own shadow. Got boys out there all throughout the day to strike where their weakest.
- Constant stinging all over the kingdom, give the impression that we're more than we really are. Spare no mind to the alternatives, we've tried 'em.
- "Diplomacy" is only used when one power's scared of another, an' we Orcs got no power.
- {We've got the people to do these schemes?}
- *Sigh* That's another reality I don't wanna face, If I'm honest. These past few months have bled us dry, damn near 9 tenths of us are either dead or in chains. It aint a pretty picture.
- You've come in the death throes of this quest - we may have to meet fate sooner than we wish.
- {I'll be ready}
- Just dont go runnin' your mouth to the others with this sad talk, we need to be bold. Those boys need to believe they're achievin' something, else we fail. No two ways about it.
- {So what are we going to do next?}
- Gonna keep vigilant - never know what the palepigs are up to, no doubt hatched another plan for us. If you're keen on helpin', then my son may have something for you.
- My time is drawing near, and my son will take his place as chief. He needs to be smart in his reign, so I'm having him take up responsibilities now.
- Rather than having him throw my legacy to the dogs with his arrogance. Now get going newblood, we have to keep busy.
- {I got your son his amulet.}
- Hope you're not too scarred, I know these witchmen can put up a mighty struggle - 'specially their poison *groans* don't want that anywhere near me.
- An' maybe you've earned my son's favor - the boy only respects strength, and you've delivered in spades.
- {So what's our next move? Tell me it's not another errand for your firstborn.}
- Stay your tongue newblood, my boy is a demon at times but he's all I got and he's the next in line. Can't have any rebellious spirits running amok, bretons are staring from every shadow...
- An' they'll pounce if they see even the slightest unrest here.
- {I understand}
- Don't take it to heart, I gotta keep order here so that Orsinium can live.
- {Anything else then?}
- Yeah, a special task that someone like you would be perfect for. Seeing that you've outdone those feral bretons up north, then this order will be child's play.
- Got a boy waiting just outside their walls, Anka; you know him?
- {Yeah}
- Good, can skip the introductions then. He'll help you get into the sewers, once you're in, your goal is that town's lord. You understand what comes next?
- {Kill him?}
- Quick-witted, ha! We'll have bloodkin outside their gate so they can provide cover for your escape, an' to stir up a little extra chaos.
- Malacath's right arm, let all his strength be with you.
- We got kin waiting outside the walls to the east, gonna make a hit on the lord that's sitting fat on his throne. Get over there and our boy will see to ya.
- {I talked to a refugee on his way out of the reach, he talked of Orsinium, do you have more details?}
- Newblood, that's sensitive information, ya hear? I can't go blabbing about our most guarded secret, 'especially to someone that no other here knows.
- {I'm an orc, isn't that enough?}
- Ha! If only that were enough to buy my trust. We've had kin-traitors aplenty, we aint convinced that you're not of the same stripe.
- Too many orcs are tempted by breton lies, too many orcs have died for those lies - aint a risk I wanna take.
- You're gonna need more of a reason for me to trust you than mere blood.
- {What can I do to earn your trust}
- I don't ask much except that you follow my orders, down to the smallest detail - fail in that and those secrets will be buried with me.
- Besides, what good would that knowledge do ya here? This is a one way road, we're all condemned on this quest - our task is to bide Orsinium time to build, and that means our sacrifice.
- {What's your story?}
- You're the first to have an interest, most Orcs just wanna know your bloodline - making their mind up about the rest.
- Commanded a crew of Orcs for these boys in blue, call themselves "Wayrestians" - used to be a bustling city 2 weeks west, now a hill of ash.
- That city harbored the best of our kin, right after the fall of old Orsinium - yet it came with a cost.
- {What cost?}
- Near all the Orcs garrisoned in their city were servants in some form or another, doing the jobs that the bretons didn't - clearing out the scum, carrying out hit jobs.
- Wasn't much choice when it came to getting coin.
- {Sounds worse than living in your tribe}
- Well that was the good part, got a whole lot worse whenever we were deployed against any other petty kingdom - anyone else would have called us warslaves.
- But we were too prideful, even when we were the first into the battle and the last ones out - even when our detachments suffered the highest losses. We still considered it an honor to fight.
- More fortunate of us could earn a title, and a good home, through our duty. I was lucky to be among them.
- So I got experience leading, don't need to fret about that - you're in good hands.
- {The orcs here take kindly to their chief having worked for bretons?}
- Well you're the first to ask, so now the only Orcs who know are you and my son. Were anyone else to know, I wouldn't lose sleep over it, they can step up and show their disgust.
- And I'll happily put them back beneath my authority. Strength is the hammer of order here, and we need order to see out our mission.
- {Your son is huger, bigger than any orc I've seen, what's his story?}
- Doubting that my seed could summon such strength, Bloodkin? If ya calling me a cuckold then I'll be adding your tongue to my belt.
- {No, I'm just curious why he looks so different to the other orcs}
- I've gone through many wives and sired nay 20 offspring - I cannot recall every bloodline.
- However I suspect his mother to have been Ogre-born, even if she hadn't looked it. The blood can show itself way down the line.
- {You sired a son with an Ogre?}
- Ogre-born, newblood - clean ya ears! This woman coulda had blood from those giants for all I know. She had a frame that dwarfed mine, yet her face was still that of an Orc.
- Seems the boy was cursed with her temper too, many a fierce night when her rage even made me afeard.
- {You worried when your son takes over?}
- All roads lead to us perishing together, I doubt the bretons are gonna stand around for a full transfer of power to take place.
- Yet we must consider the possibility, an' if his reign does come about and we haven't all been consumed by the next battle. Then all of you must summon the strength to make your cries heard.
- I fear he'd make a tyrant instead of a leader.
- {What are you going to do with this Armor?}
- Caught your eye, huh? Well forged armor like this is hard to come by, if we weren't occupied with battle then I'd sell it at the nearest market. Coulda made a hefty sum.
- Yet dealin' with bretons turns the stomach - so we gotta find other uses for this fancy set. Were thinkin' about usin' it to get among the manmer - A disguise.
- Sadly no bloodkin wanna be near the bretons let a lone look like them.
- {How about I use it? I've spoken to bretons before, I think I can blend in.}
- Sure about that? Dangerous game you'd be playin', we aint sure how paranoid those pigs are considerin' the state of their kingdom.
- They get a whiff of you and your head will be looking from their pikes.
- An' it's not just appearances you gotta keep in order, you gotta start talking different - not so easy with these teeth.
- {I'll try my best, I'll always have an escape route if anything happens.}
- Your call newblood, understand that we can't send any men to fetch you from any trouble that comes from this scheme. Such is the nature of this struggle.
- Hope it's a good fit, the manmer who wore it was a mountain compared to any Breton I've seen. If it weren't for you, then it'd have been thrown to the river.
- Before I forget - consider takin' off that helmet when you're around ours, you know, just in case.
- -------------------------------
- [Plans for further dialogue]
- {Chief talks about what's happening in Orsinium, denies you knowledge of its location at the moment because he can't fully trust you yet. Says that you'll know when all go back or that you don't need to know because suicide mission}
- {Chief gives backstory of also serving at wayrest, and witnessed sacking of orsinium(?), should explain how he knows about bretons.}
- {Chief talks about son and his origins, why he is the way he acts. That warchief knows his time is soon as son is eager to take mantle, with force if need be}
