i had a very interesting time with this guy. early on in both arcs, he seemed to be a pretty douchey guy tbh, with him bullying hajime in despair and being an overall asshole to everyone in future. later on in both arcs though, his softer side was revealed, along with a revelation that completely changed my outlook on him; he's gay. it was pretty sad and relatable seeing him hide his sexuality like that when facing junko, and i couldn't help but feel nothing but sympathy for him. his death in future was really noble too; dying to save others is something another favorite dr character of mine did, making it all the more touching. i really loved his gradual change from stone-cold asshole to really noble, relatable, and even likable; tsundere trope done excellently i guess lol. in all, he's a great guy, but i wish i got to see his sexuality explored a bit more.[/td][/tr]

this guy was another fun guy. i liked how he was basically comic relief in the first few episodes of despair, but was kinda sad to see his lack of screentime there later on. i liked him a lot in the future arc too, and it was interesting to see his relationship with kyoko unfold. his death was incredibly touching and emotional, since he saved kyoko (who clearly didn't like him) by sacrificing himself and using his forbidden action. his last words, saying that it was all for jin, really helped it hit home, cause it further shows just how loyal he is to his friends. i loved this guy's laid-back personality, and liked how he was drunk all the time in despair; it was a nice break from all the sadness going on at the same time.[/td][/tr]

she had a really neat backstory that was explored in despair and further elaborated on in future. ruruka was a total bitch to her and didn't deserve the way she was treated since she was a big help to her during the exam; it was nagito's fault things went bad. have i mentioned i want to destroy nagito yet? well i do. anyway, i really liked her progression from basically a mikan clone in despair to a pretty fierce opponent in future, and her final moments with her questioning what went wrong between her and ruruka hit close to home; i'll just say i could relate to it in a way, though obviously not to that extreme. she was a good character while she lasted.[/td][/tr]

4 - [b]Ryota Mitarai[/b]

he was one of the more explored characters in both arcs, and definitely has a lot of backstory because of that. i really felt sorry for him after seeing how much creating anime meant for him, and how he was used mercilessly by junko for her own means. he was unfortunately very prone to manipulation from both sides, being forced to make despair and hope videos with the intent of brainwashing their viewers. i felt so bad for him since he was forced to do all of this, and seeing his emotional reaction to being accepted by the remnants of despair at the end of the hope arc was really touching. it really hits the point home that he was a great guy under a lot of bad circumstances.[/td][/tr]

5 - [b]Great Gozu[/b]

fierce, loyal, protective, and cute; the four necessary ingredients for a guard-type character in my book. the great gozu was a cool guy from the beginning, defending makoto from juzo's tsundere-ness in the beginning of the future arc. i liked his air of mystery surrounding who he really was; we never get to see his true face under his cow head mask, and he avoids talking about his past as well. i'm hoping it's all good, since he is in the future foundation and all, but who knows... maybe it'll be revealed someday. but for now, he's a cool guy, worthy of many fanfics written about his mysterious personality. LET'S GO GOZUUUUUUUUUUU![/td][/tr]

another good example of character development, though this time with negative consequences. chisa seemed really dedicated and loyal to her students in the despair arc, and it seemed like they really connected together. it was really sad to see her of all people get brainwashed by junko, since i really thought that she was hopeful enough to be able to stand up to her despair. it was even worse to see that her being brainwashed led to her corrupting the future foundation from inside in the future arc, and eventually leading to her untimely death. i guess it shows that even the happiest, most hopeful people can be twisted beyond repair by despair...[/tr][/td]

7 - [b]Komaru Naegi[/b]

it was nice to see a cameoed character from dr1 play a bigger role in the future arc. i liked how she got along with toko pretty well, and i liked seeing how they treated each other basically as sisters. i could tell that she was just as hopeful for the future as her brother was, but i wish i coulda seen more of their sibling relationship and family dynamics. she was still pretty badass though when she was rescuing the future foundation, so she gets a big + for that

this guy. oh my god. he's like if you made nagito several times more aggressive. i hated how he constantly went after makoto even when pretty much the entire future foundation was there to defend him. he's way too defensive of hope, which i feel turns into despair when severely overdone like how he did it. he doesn't seem to have any sort of sympathy for his actions, such as literally telling makoto to kill himself (then trying to kill him), and worst of all, stabbing juzo which led to his death... ;-; ;-; :'( >:([/td][/tr]
