- He squeezed along the wall till they reached another display. This one had fewer letters, and more newspaper articles. One jumped out at Crawford: a full-page headline from the November 22, 1941, edition of the Washington Press.

- The memory struck him suddenly, with the force of a blow.
- "Rustin Parr. I'll be damned." He turned to Green. "That was here. I forgot all about it."
- Green nodded.
- Parr was an old hermit who lived up in the woods. He'd killed and tortured seven children back in the forties. The details were a little fuzzy in Crawford's mind; he read through the Press article to refresh them, but it was vague. The most interesting part was the last paragraph, which had Parr saying "voices in his head" made him commit his crimes. Voices in his head: Crawford was reminded of Son of Sam.
