  1. How neat it was that a class room specifically made for the art of Necromancy and Riftmancy had already been made! Making their way inside, the little Fae would come to take a seat at the edge of the teacher's table.
  2.
  3. Truthfully, she had expected more to show up... But it was of little importance!
  4.
  5. "Hello, hello! Welcome. Am Nyphadora, though am sure you already know that… Today I will be hosting this introduction course to Riftmancy. Roughly speaking, Riftmancy is the art of utilizing the lifestream to teleport from one place to another." Her voice was amplified an ever so slight bit, running through the room at a normal volume- How magical! But this was a magic class.
  6.
  7. "Before we discuss how one to use it however, we will take a look at the possibilities it holds and the theory behind it- Why it works, when it doesn't and the potential dangers involved with it."
  8.
  9. "As you all should know, Riftmancy is widely considered a depraved art- And there is good reason for this. Not only does it corrupt the lifestream and the wielder, the gap left in the lifestream may prove to be a hole for evil spirits or the like to slip through. Inexperienced Riftmancers are often known to go missing as well, having wandered presumably into the void by mistake!"
  10.
  11. A little giggle escaped her, wings fluttering as she leapt from the table.
  12.
  13. "This art is dangerous. You may die trying to learn it, and should you survive… You will feel the sting of corruption- But I find it to be well worth it. If you have any issues with this though, I suggest you take your leave." And with that, she would give them a moment.
  14. (Nyphadora)
  15.
  16. He seats himself at the front of the classroom.
  17.
  18. The course for Riftmancy had caught his interest in hearing about earlier. Despite it being but an introductory class to the depraved art, he feels that he can benefit from his attendance. He looks to the fae at the front of them.
  19.
  20. Nyphadora's voice then comes to sound throughout the classroom.
  21.
  22. A short explanation is given about the inherent danger that comes with the magic, what they would be discussing in the class, and more. He'd reply with a small nod in her direction. Curious eyes continuing to follow her their wings flap to bring her into the air.
  23.
  24. The dangers and corruptness of the art aren't anything that dissuade him. Everyone in this city experienced both on a daily basis, did they not?
  25.
  26. (Feth Grauhimmel)
  27.
  28. Chrom sat within the middle table the Sirenian lazily leaning back in his chair. Yellow hues looking up towards the front as the tiny fae started up the class. Now was the time to focus! Leaning forward the young squid headed youth's focus fully upon the rough direction of her voice.
  29.
  30. His head bobbed as he listened to the words being spoken. Softly humming the little Sirenian took out a bit of paper and a quill. Riftmancy, a depraved art built around ripping holes in the fabric of the life-stream in order to travel instantaneously. So, in short it's a teleportation technique with the benefit of opening a door for evil spirits and corrupting the life-stream.
  31.
  32. With a thump he'd sit the quill down to the side returning his gaze towards the front. It was all simple stuff. If you're dumb using it you die and if your smart you can teleport. Even a thirteen year old squid could understand that.
  33.
  34. (Chrom Khan)
  35.
  36. The Master Necromancer didn't have much to do lately. What he did most of the time, was take care of some injured people, teach Necromancy or other things, or just look for things to do in Dusk while he couldn't continue his projects, like playing that 'King' game with Sors and others. Due mainly to the war he could not continue many of his projects.
  37.
  38. But he had always enjoyed studying, especially interesting arts such as Riftmancy, where the opportunity to learn a little more about such art had come to the old man. Nyphadora, the Lady Fae of Dusk, would give a class that day. And then the man went to school, this time not to teach, but to learn. Strange thing for him.
  39.
  40. Taking a seat, he had crossed his arms and focused his full attention on Nyphadora. His silver eyes alert and awaiting the start of the class.
  41.
  42. Then the fairy began to speak. As expected she explained a few things before, saying that art was considered depraved as well as dangerous. Something that didn't bother the necromancer much, after all, he was already playing with death when he became a necromancer!
  43.
  44. However, the issue of 'corruption' must be something strange.. Something like what happens to Sors? Likely. But Aldrah would not leave, he was there to learn after all.
  45.
  46. He remained silent, waiting for the opportunity to speak if necessary.
  47. (Aldrah Leverd)
  48.
  49. Continued silence.
  50.
  51. Good, it meant no one was going to leave! Well aside from the Kaor, but they seemed busy with other things. Arms crossed as she hovered forward a few inches, her attention shifting between the trio of attendees.
  52.
  53. "Utilizing one's mana, it is possible to grasp upon the life stream. By opening this 'hole', we create a rift. Connecting it with another tear you create in the life stream as well, allows you to take one step through a 'portal'."
  54.
  55. "It takes a lot of practice, patience and talent to utilize the art to its utmost- Most with time can learn to use it at short ranges much swifter, phasing out of existence and appearing somewhere else. Sors and I use that frequently, as some may have seen, to avoid attacks or even gain a better position to counter."
  56.
  57. "Some mean that the art also originated from the study on Nethradin, hence the natural connection to these evil spirits and the art in question. Most use it to study the void, and few tap into it and wield it as their own."
  58.
  59. A little smile would curve her lips, "Then there are those like myself who utilized it to create a world of their own- In a separate dimension. One can even utilize runes in conjunction with the art! Quite fascinating all of the possibilities the art of Rift has, is it not?"
  60.
  61. "And this is only some of them! In reality it is the manipulation of the life stream, the huge source of all of our mana, so in theory there should be nigh infinite possibilities."
  62.
  63. "Any questions?"
  64. (Nyphadora)
  65.
  66. He kept alert at all times as expected, listening as Nyphadora explained the basics.
  67.
  68. Aldrah already had a sense of how Riftmancy worked, he had seen Sors use it several times, like the time he went to a dimension with him and fixed the body of a dragon, or the times Aldrah had fought him.. And also, Nicole, his wife, was a user of this art. So he already had some knowledge of this.
  69.
  70. But he had never practiced or sought more deeply to know about that art, until now.
  71.
  72. The use of 'Rifts' in combat was something Aldrah sought to learn, was useful as he saw Sors using it.. In addition to being interested in the question of creating their own 'little worlds' in other dimensions, such as Nyphadora said that she did.
  73.
  74. When the opportunity arose for him to speak, the man promptly asked, "For the creation of these 'worlds', what do you have to do, Nyphadora? What is necessary, how is the process?" A calm tone in the man's voice was present as he asked and scratched his beard.
  75.
  76. He kept silent then, waiting for an answer and seeing what the others would say.
  77. (Aldrah Leverd)
  78.
  79. Silence. Well silence for at-least the time while the Fae spoke. After-all though the Khan had witnessed Sors utilize it many times. Though of course watching it and knowing exactly what was happening are two completely different things.
  80.
  81. "If it's connected to Nethradin would a riftmancer be attacked during one of their riftings? Like do you have to fight them each trip?"
  82.
  83. He wasn't sure how you could fight them when you travel instantly. Though of course time could work differently.
  84. (Chrom Khan)
  85.
  86. "Hm..."
  87.
  88. The low hum would come as she tells of the many usages of Riftmancy. Summoning nethradin, to peer into the void for studies, creating another dimension, and more endless possibilities. An art which, going against the limitations of the lifestream, makes much possible.
  89.
  90. He hadn't thought much of these many possibilities before.
  91.
  92. In his time attempting to learn the art he'd thought of the simplest use. Breaking apart the lifestream for the use of travel. As he thought of what else is possible nods. He agrees that the what is capable of being done is fascinating. It is a reason he has sought it out.
  93.
  94. He remembers that the usages are as you make them.
  95.
  96. As she asks if there are any questions his head turns, looking around to the others. He'd listen to the question of the Leverd behind him before raising his own hand. Waiting for his chance to ask a question of the knowledgeable fae.For help.
  97.
  98. "I've been trying for years to better use rifts, Lady Nyphadora. While I feel I have the power and control needed, I don't know much concept. Your notes and lesson today will help, but is there anything more I can do? A way to better break the lifestream... like connecting to it?"
  99. (Feth Grauhimmel)
  100.
  101. glance was paid to Aldrah, a little snicker escaping her. "What is needed you ask? Divinity, of course. I could go into much detail, however it is far too complicated but-- Let me just say, creating a world is a nuisance but conquering one is doable."
  102.
  103. Then to Chrom, a little smile curving her lips as he spoke. She was quite happy to see someone so young interested in the art!
  104.
  105. "Aha, yes and no. I myself have been attacked once, but it happens rarely. Mostly they wait for the powerful Magi who could rip the tear to leave… Then they slip out. So worry not!"
  106.
  107. And finally Feth, "And it sounds like you require a trip to the Spirit Realm to see the lifestream. Perhaps Yggdrasil?" A tilt of her head, though she swiftly seemed to move on!
  108.
  109. "Anywho… Continuing the lesson."
  110.
  111. "Riftmancy require intricate knowledge of the life stream, the astral planes and of course a Master's runes. I believe that today we can discuss the life stream, what Riftmancy does to it and how, and see how that goes?"
  112.
  113. "Anyone here who can explain what the lifestream is, and what is important about it for Riftmancy?"
  114. (Nyphadora)
  115.
  116. Chrom's yellow hues shifted upwards towards the ceiling of the School. Idly scribbling down more notes about the art. Nethradin are scared of big mages and mostly run through the door. So, the door has to be opened. Oh, wait then if you open the door you could just not go through it and let Nethradin out? Could be a funny thing to do.
  117.
  118. A little chuckle escaped the maw behind his writhing tendrils as he thought about that. There'd be a lot of villains to beat up them. Probably make Kah Zam happy to have the work.
  119.
  120. Oh, right a question. The life-stream what was it? The squid's expression. The little creature was sort of stumped on this one. Oh, well better to ask a dumb question than not participate.
  121.
  122. "Isn't it kinda like a spider web tha' the rifter climbs around to go places?"
  123.
  124. He didn't know really but such was the fate of youthful squidies.
  125. (Chrom Khan)
  126.
  127. "A trip to see the lifestream?"
  128.
  129. The man would raise a brow at the suggestion for him to better his understanding, with another slow nod being given their way. Remembering. Despite his minimal knowledge on the Spirit Realm, it is something he now also has an interest in.
  130.
  131. He'd then listens to their continuation of her explanation. An understanding of the lifestream is needed. With what is feels is a lack of understanding on his part, he is convinced more that it is what he needs to continue on his path as a Riftmancer.
  132.
  133. "The lifestream is the flow of energy of the world we live in. Everything draws from it in some way or another. It helps us as magi, but limits us and our world too. It's important because it's what we manipulate for Riftmancy."
  134. (Feth Grauhimmel)
  135.
  136. The Necromancer's eyes wandered to Feth's and the squid boy's face as they asked Nyphadora questions. But when the fairy answered the old necromancer's question, he turned his attention to her.
  137.
  138. Divinity? Of course.. Just like Akasha, probably. So it was something out of Aldrah's reach. But conquer one? It may be easier. But the question now is.. How to find one?
  139.
  140. "Right.. But how would I find one of these 'little worlds'? Should I look for a 'portal' already open in the world? Or should I explore through rifts created by me?" He asked.
  141.
  142. But when she said continuing class, he stopped. If she wanted to answer him, she would.
  143.
  144. When she asked what the life stream was, Aldrah remembered that it was something that 'connected' things, the dimensions, well this what he had heard, somewhere.
  145.
  146. "If I remember correctly, it's 'something' that connects the dimensions. Where in the art of riftmancy we open the 'portals' in it to go from one dimension to another, I think." Aldrah shrugged.
  147.
  148. He didn't know if he was right or not, but was what he remembered, for the moment.
  149. (Aldrah Leverd)
  150.
  151. "Who knows, we found ours through Illyotha- I presume you can find them at random, or study the ancient ruins for clues. Anywho..."
  152.
  153. Those were all some cute explanations and whilst only Chrom was necessarily wrong, it wasn't like the two others were right either.
  154.
  155. "Mm, yes. The lifestream is the source of... Well, life. We all draw upon it for energy and through our soul, we can draw upon mana. Now... What is important about the lifestream, and most importantly for our art, is that everything within it is unique."
  156.
  157. A hand was raised, a finger pointing towards the table behind her. "Take this table for example- It has a certain flow around it, one so certain and unique that nowhere within the lifestream is there anything like it."
  158.
  159. And so the hand fell, "So. This means that by memorising the flow of enough objects within an area, you can easily locate it, yes? Now this also means that should enough things have changed, such as a natural disaster or say several powerful Magi clashing in war... Then the flow is unstable and usually extremely difficult to locate properly..."
  160.
  161. "Now. We all live in the life stream, and as a result of this Riftmancy's primary usage is to tear a hole to the outside of the lifestream and then... Well, connecting it to another hole you create to your destination."
  162.
  163. "An important step in learning the art is meditation... Connecting to the lifestream, as vague as that may sound, so that one may be able to grasp upon it later. I suggest you all do it every now and then, and preferably at the same spot."
  164.
  165. "Any questions so far?"
  166. (Nyphadora)
  167.
  168. The Khan thought about what all was said for a few moments. Though as the explanations came about he realized he'd been wrong. Oh, well better to be wrong and corrected than right and ignored. Oh wait that wasn't how these things worked.
  169.
  170. The tentacles upon his face curled lazily into a handlebar mustache and back to normal as he thought about it. Processed it all. In order to become a rifter or well in order to begin becoming a rifter. You have to connect to the life-stream. By sitting in a spot and memorizing it? No that didn't make sense without a moments break to think through his questions the young Sirenian started off.
  171.
  172. "Wait how do ya' do tha' whole connecting thing. Like ya' already said tha' we're connected. If we're connected how do we connect? Doesn't make much sense, it's like telling a fish to swim."
  173.
  174. The sirenian scratched his head as he pondered that.
  175. (Chrom Khan)
  176.
  177. --
  178.
  179. "Mm, am glad you asked Chrom! When meditating, you will become more and more attuned to the connection you have, allowing you to more easily grasp upon it. Now it may sound odd but trust me, after you manage it once, it will make sense."
  180.
  181. "Now then… Grasping upon the lifestream is no easy task however! The flow of each things within it may be unique, however it is also ever shifting. The direction is never the same, and one must constantly adjust for this."
  182.
  183. With a snap of her fingers, a showcase of Riftmancy was displayed- Immediately space itself unfolded before her, three round spheres engraved with runic workings all around them came to be, all floating around the Fae.
  184.
  185. "This tool will aid in practicing this control… Once you pour your mana into it, it will attempt to disrupt your flow and in order to remain stable, you must shift your mana accordingly as to not break the connection. Whilst you succeed, it will glow. When you fail, it will grow dim! Quite simple, yes?"
  186.
  187. But despite the simplicity, it wasn't unusual for some to be stuck working with it for weeks, maybe even months. A quick demonstration was given, albeit all the students could see was the three spheres glowing whilst she spoke- A light that would dim as she moved away from them and back to her table.
  188.
  189. "Take one each and practice with it for next time. Please do continue practicing until it is stable for at least a few minutes, mm... And if possible, all self-study made on the life stream and the astral planes will help you greatly!"
  190.
  191. "Any questions before I dismiss you?"
  192. (Nyphadora)
  193.
  194. --
  195.
  196. ( after this, ma game started to die and was not able to log in back T.T, probably because of ma internet connection. )
