- ####Starsight 1:
- * Team DP have strategic positioning advantage that means they never have to engage the enemy in unfavourable conditions.
- * Hanno has the ability Save, which makes him somehow precognitive/able to sense souls (?)
- As a minor note, when you're introducing complex fictional abilities try to *really* dumb it down and introduce it step by step to explain what it does and its effect on the battle.
- I'm trying to parse the passage you posted as best I can, but I'm not familiar with this series and without guidance from the person running the characters, I could easily see a judge misinterpreting one of these powers.
- From what I *think* is going on, Hanno has a supernatural sense for when his allies are or will be in peril so he can intervene and rescue them. Please let me know if I'm wrong.
- * Hanno also has the ability Recall, which lets him spontaneously gain relevant skills (in this case, wilderness tracking)
- * Tariq receives prophecies of the future. Can sense things through many layers of stone. Able to magically track a specific person on a chaotic battlefield. The deserted Isla Nublar will be much easier to scry in.
- * "Given that a mortal's attempts to view the world through the eyes of a Choir can cover an entire large valley [...]"
- What's a Choir?
- * Tariq is very stealthy, and enters a palace unseen by vigilant guards. Has supernatural stamina.
- * Tariq shortens distances via extradimensional travel - turns "a march of months into weeks instead." Team DP can get where they need to at a modest pace walking outside of the rain, where Crim's team will be exerted and waterlogged and miserable. Tariq can also make the wind/rain less intense around them for better travelling/fighting conditions.
- GOOD logistical argument!
- * Tariq's precog works across dimensions.
- * Tariq's magic blasts a monster through two houses and trades in a shooting war w/ an archer whose range is 1.5 miles.
- All the evidence is there, but as a teeny nitpick, I'd like to see the linked text highlight the relevant part of the feat:
- "[Tariq fires beams that knock a monster through two houses](link to relevant quote)"
- Highlighting exactly how much damage your dudes can put out makes your argument that much stronger.
- * Enemy team is outranged at 1.5 miles and can't close easily. Even if they closed to melee, Hanno is exceptionally good at defending allies.
- * Tariq can also unleash devastating plagues. Could infect the island and just wait for the enemy to die of disease. But this isn't in character.
- I will say, even if it's not entirely in character, leave that for your opponent to *disprove* instead of doing the work for them yourself. It's one more angle of attack and if they fail to dispute it it's that much more in your favour.
- * Hanno punches through reinforced iron like paper, deflects blows strong enough to shatter stone, crumples steel in his grip, AOE stone shattering magic burst, makes his sword sharp and hot enough to melt steel.
- * Can reinforce his skin to be crossbow proof, very heat resistant, unhurt by an explosion that turns armoured knights into "chunks of metal and gore." Has enough regen to heal back a slit throat.
- Really fucking good stats, this dude rocks.
- * Pivots mid swing to deflect crossbow bolts from behind & plucks arrows out of the air. Parries Archer's arrows where Archer's long range implies a high level of projectile speed. Fights Archer in melee where Archer is as quick as her own arrow.
- The prose only says "quick as *an* arrow" and doesn't specify Archer's own arrows.
- *Hanno can boost his movement speed in short bursts. Throws a torch into a room and catches it midair at the end of its arc faster than a dude can swing a sword.
- I will note that the "superhuman" nature of the opponent isn't cited, and being generically superhuman doesn't necessarily mean superhumanly fast as well.
- * Tariq can heal broken limbs, revive KO'd people. Blasts beams of light mentioned earlier which can incinerate metal armour.
- * Can protect Tariq with the Shine
- What's the Shine?
- From what I can gather it's a really bright blinding light. I'm maybe getting the impression this thing inspires magical fear and there's a bit about "massive pressure [swatting] someone through the paved ground" but without more info I don't really know what this thing does.
- Sick prose tho.
- * BothHanno and Tanriq can revive each other from death once per day.
- * JY has no relevant feats for tracking opponents. JY has vaguely good tracking and senses, no indication it'd work at 10km starting distance.
- * Team DP's extra dimensional travel means they get to decide when to engage, Crim's team are stuck wandering until they get attacked.
- * JY's teleportation is short range. If she uses it to attack Tanriq, Hanno knows ahead of time where to position thanks to Save.
- * JY's TK also won't stop an energy attack (non physical projectile?)
- * Kuga has big advantage thanks to tirelessness
- I wouldn't hand your opponent a point like that---again, always force them to put in the work instead of spending your limited word count doing it.
- * Kuga needs to know where shots are coming from to avoid bullets. Even his most amped form gets tagged by two snipers & tanriq can fire multiple beams.
- * Pilgrim can erase DP's enemies from the map (?)
- Who is Pilgrim?
- * JY is dead weight. Kuga can't constantly defend. Even if Kuga gets into melee,Hanno can deal with them. 10km start distance and monsoon conditions make the difference.
- ####Crim 1:
- * Kuga blocks shotgun at close range. Traverses the body of a giant monster to kill it in .38 seconds. Entire verse is fast and Yuma is considered #1.
- * Kuga being hit by snipers is outlier, consistently dodges snipers.
- * There is no clear LOS through the jungle for Tariq to snipe through.
- * Kuga can block the beams with the shield.
- No citation on how strong the shield is---Tariq's beams have been shown to blow through two houses and disintegrate armour.
- * Kuga will see them coming through the portal and immediate bisect/decapitate them.
- * JY is a 2nd gen psychic who is >>> 1st gens and weaker experiments.
- * Average experiment moves fast, bullet time, shrugs off massive impalement, has some degree of regen.
- Where do they bullet time? Nothing's linked. If it's meant to be in the 70mph gif I can't really tell what's happening with that camera work.
- Oh well at least the crossbow feat is included.
- * JY and Yuma are both evasive fighters, hard to hit with clear LOS let alone with jungle blocking it.
- * Starsight needs to demonstrate that her team can consistently hit Yuma/JY & that they move between their dimensional portals at speeds relevant to tier.
- ####Starsight 2:
- * Reiterating---Archer can fire arrows at 1.5 miles. Implies the arrows are fast. A lot of math.
- I think you could've made this argument using a lot fewer words but as it stands I'm mooostly buying what you're selling. IDK if I buy *exactly* how fast you say these arrows to be but "they are faster than normal arrows" based on high draw strength & far range seems like a reasonable claim.
- *Hanno is fast. Mondo arrow timing.
- * Tariq's beam completely bodies someone who deflected an arrow from Archer. Getting in a shooting war with archer using these beams inherently implies some comparable speed.
- * Ja-Yoon can't make full body movements in reaction to bullets, has to block w/ hand.
- * JY has no feats to suggest she could content in melee with Hanno.
- * Hanno could break free of her TK using his Light which works to disrupt many different esoteric abilities.
- * JY fights at fast action movie choreography speeds.
- The classic live action curse…
- * Hanno scales above a Named who can travel 30 feet in an eyeblink. Even styles on him mid combat. Fast moving opponents will not be a problem.
- A potential contest to this line of scaling would be that Black perhaps has strong legs for fast jumping, but has slow reaction speeds which allow Hanno to dance around him.
- We'll see what Crim says.
- * More scaling. Tossing house sized stones 30 ft.
- * In the shotgun feat, the pellets don't actually seem to hit the shield---seems more like a miss than a successful block. Most shotgun pellets are relatively slow as far as bullets go.
- * Claimed speed of average agent sniper feat is unsourced. Manga timeframes are weird.
- Even if he was already reaching for it before the round got close, I think it's still a pretty solid feat for movement to get her out of the way while the bullet was in flight within spitting distance of them.
- * Kuga gets clipped by attacks and some of the projectiles claimed as bullets aren't
- * The shield isn't strong enough to stop Tariq's blasts.
- Yeah.
- * The houses Tariq busts are made of stone.
- * Tariq can snipe through trees using precog. The fact that the beams transfer momentum to projectile a person through two houses & a statue implies insane ability to plough through tree trunks.
- Oh! Pilgrim is Tariq. I get it now. I was confused for a second. Calling him the "Grey Pilgrim" in signups should've tipped me off haha.
- * Gates open fast enough to redirect Tariq's light beams after they're fired.
- * Tariq can defend himself by opening these as shields to redirect attacks. He won't have to, becauseHanno is fast and will protect him, but he could.
- * Hanno is more consistently fast than Kuga.
- * Reiterating---team DP has superior logistical abilities to scout the enemy and travel through a forested area. Crim's team will wear themselves out while DP camps.
- ####Crim 2:
- * This is what a .50 cal does IRL vs what it does in World Trigger.
- I'm not watching seven minutes man link a timestamp. Anyway I get the point.
- * Rifle in the average agent feat is stated to have higher muzzle velocity than any real world sniper rifle
- IDK man it just says "higher muzzle velocity" not "higher than any real world gun"
- * Further evidence of bullet timing
- * Railgun feat - "Assuming speeds remotely close to real life counterparts"
- Why should we assume that?
- * More JY scaling.
- * Attacks the Archer calc. "Move an inch" is an idiom not literal measurement. Force & kinetic energy don't always correlate in fiction.
- This is true. I'll be interested to see how Star responds.
- * Crossbow timing feats as supersonic "becomes inconsistent with the concept of the setting"
- Why? It seems like Named are supposed to be superhuman, I don't see a contradiction.
- "In a setting where horses are relevant" doesn't really apply when all of these guys Star is scaling to are uniquely cracked individuals, not ordinary footmen soldiers.
- * "Quick as an arrow" is just an idiom.
- I think I'm sympathetic to this argument, but even then, Hanno has objective arrow feats.
- * "30 feet in the blink of an eye is inhumanly fast"
- Yes? Humans can't move that fast. This is a special magic human.
- * Eyeblinks last 6x longer than claimed
- That says they were recorded at 600 fps not that the eyeblinks lasted 600 milliseconds.
- * On average, Crim's picks come from fast settings
- * Table feat has no frame of reference for how much stone is smashed. Normal person could break some amount of stone with a hammer.
- * "Evaporating stone" is flowery language
- I don't really buy this one. "Swift as an arrow" is indeed a common idiom applied to things that are not in fact as fast as an arrow, but "evaporating" means evaporating. It is not commonly used metaphorically.
- * The sword doesn't "boil steel"
- Yeah this is true. It just says it melts through it in the feat. Still. Not bad.
- * Most metal armour only has mm thickness.
- * All combat bodies have the same durability. Scaling. Bigly concrete dura. Fights through dismemberment.
- * JY dura. Hit by projectiled car through barn wall. Projectiled hard enough to warp steel.
- * Shield takes 4 hits from robot that busts a hole through a building. Kuga can shield teammates.
- * Hanno's durability is bad.
- * "Shooting war" doesn't mean it would happen from 1.5 miles away. No feats for tagging fast characters at such long ranges through dense cover.
- * The jungle is too dense to get a clear path.
- * The houses aren't specifically referred to as stone.
- * The Miracle is slow. Takes 10 heartbeats to complete.
- * The portal feat for the light beams' speed is unclear time frames in unclear sequences.
- ####Star 3:
- * 50 cal doing more damage does not imply the bullets are faster than RL bullets.
- I agree! Crim himself pointed out the frequent disconnect between power and speed for fictional projectiles.
- * Star never said JY wasn't top of her setting.
- Ya I was wondering why Crim went so hard on that one when it wasn't contested.
- * JY would not survive being vaporised from the waist up. She regularly lets enemies into close quarters, which would be bad against either of Star's picks
- * The fact Archer makes those shots so casually implies it is not her maximum range or close.
- * "Couldn't budge an inch" even as an idiom means the thing couldn't be budged. It is specifically the draw strength that allows her to make shots that far out which mechanically must come down to speed.
- * Being fast is not weird for this setting, especially since Hanno keeps getting stronger through the series
- * Archer explicitly says Hanno is too fast for a bow.
- I think this is a really solid smoking gun. By this point I am fully convinced Hanno is Just Fast.
- * Blinks don't last 600 ms
- Yeah.
- * The .38 second movement is slower than the captain's jump, and that's scaling to an early series version of Hanno
- * JY superhumans still move visually slow most of the time
- * Evaporating stone means evaporating stone.
- True.
- * Prince of Bones is covered in "hundreds of pounds of steel" and is huge. That implies a shitload of metal.
- Yeah.
- * Neither of Crim's picks have any heat resistance feats. Get melted, idiots.
- GOOD point!!!
- * The explosion dura is stronger than claimed.
- * Tariq snipes fast floating platforms out of the sky
- * The Tree Density screencap doesn't mean anything.
- * Tariq is still fast moving---does legolas falling debris jump on a log
- * Reiterating---one beam of light vaporises JY. 2v1 vs Yuma.
- * The houses are stone.
- Those houses sure are stone.
- * Tariq is one of the best at sidling/extradimensional travel alive. A lesser sidler scales to Hawk, who scales to 9 arrows per heartbeat from Archer.
- * On top of team BP's superior lethality, they have all the unaddressed tricks like once per day resurrection, the Fencer speedboost trick, precog, healing, and the Shine
- I still don't know what that last one does but it's cool
- * Team DP waits out Team Crim until JY gets exhausted. Then Tariq shoots her. Then they 2v1 Yuma.
- * Hanno is already more skilled than Yuma and will get even more skilled with use of Recall.
- * Further potential to distract and separate the enemy using portals.
- ####Result:
- **Starsight Wins**
- I have to say for a first time competitor I am blown away.
- Aside from a couple of rougher patches like the length calc where a more succinct appeal to logic (superhuman draw strength + range = superhuman arrow speed) would've sufficed, this was a really good argument.
- Starsight effectively laid out a cohesive strategy that played into her characters demonstrated abilities and personalities of having Tariq ferry them around through portals to keep them fresh and limit exertion before overwhelming an exhausted enemy with his light beams while Hanno played bodyguard.
- By contrast, Crim failed to articulate a cogent counter beyond intercepting an ambush, and with Ja-yoon succumbing to exhaustion before the other combatants, Starsight successfully pushed this into a 2v1.
- Hanno is just fast. His arrow timing is really good. The explicit statement he is too quick for Archer's super bullets is really good. The fact he as an ability that *explicitly makes him* better at intercepting attacks intended for allies is really really good.
- Tariq's beams are just fast. The feat of his beam just blitzing a character to death mid-sentence when she can cut Archer's arrows out of the air made me cackle.
- Between the unresisted heat vector and the stone house feat I fully believe either Hanno's sword or Tariq's beams could oneshot either of Team Crim. Hanno's durability isn't that great, but considering his demonstrated speed and Tariq covering for him with the portal redirection & one off extra life, that didn't matter nearly as much to this round.
- Neither JY or Yuma are bad combatants in any right, and I for the most part agree with the stats Crim pushed (aside from falsely correlating the .50 cal's strength with speed). The problem is simply that Team DP's strengths work around Crim's more directly focused melee picks to sidestep what might otherwise be an even match and turn it into guerilla warfare hell where they get to pick the terms.
- Crim, you had good picks, but you got bogged down without a greater strategy and left behind playing catchup to Starsight's more convincing articulation of how the fight plays out.
