  17. Baldev Lagah: if you use the roads you should contribute to them via road tax low emissions or not and i guarantee you that if everybody started using low emission cars they would be swiftly taxed also this reduced/no tax for low emission vehicles is just a scheme to get folk into them and when enough have bought them up BAM they will get taxed to death also. At the end of the day if you are going to use the roads just like drivers you should pay for it via road tax and should have to have licences and insurance.

  19. Baldev Lagah: also cyclists should be held to the rules of the road the same as drivers and be punished for breaking them.

  21. Dean Dickson: Well thing is tax applies to everyone regardless of whether you use all the services or not. I don't use railways but a portion of my tax is used to subsidise them via network rail for example. I pay income tax at 20% and 40% along with my NI, VAT, fuel duty & APD. So really I am contributing to the upkeep and construction of roads along with all other public services, this is the real essence of general taxation and wealth distribution. The fact that I drive & cycle is irrelevant really, one way or the other I'm paying for it so I have equal rights to use it safely. As far as cyclists being held to account, quite simply they are. It's also worth noting that as well as ridiculous cycling there is also ridiculous driving, tarring everyone with the same brush based on one persons actions just doesn't add up. You and I haven't worked long enough to repay society for what we've taken up to this point, does that mean we shouldn't be given the use of public services?
