Upstmeme Skip

So I'm now trying to implement "Upstream skip" into my Crash 1 100% speedruns. This pastebin will tell you all you need to know about it (hopefully).

Q: What is Upstream skip?
A: Completing the level Upstream 100% on your first pass through the level. It is intended that you play this level a second time after you have collected the orange gem from Generator Room, which gives you access to the hidden boxes. However, in December 2016, an RTA-viable method for reaching these boxes was developed. Therefore, we can now complete the level in just one pass. Previously, this skip was TAS-only.

Q: How is this executed?
A: First, 1 mask is needed when you enter the level. This mask will be automatic from the invincibility you get in N. Sanity Beach and Jungle Rollers. You collect the mask at the start of the level, and then the invincibility is gotten before the bridge that is above the secret box. By doing a submarine jump while invincible, your hitbox can extend to the box hidden under the bridge (it is possible to do it without a subjump by just going up the bridge but it's super inconsistent for some reason). Then, you get to the last lily-pad before the first portal, stand in the right position, do a diagonal jump towards the wall, and mash spin/jump. Once you are out of bounds, you walk until you are over the secret path and then fall down to it, and then complete the rest of the stage.

Q: Why weren't you going for this before?
A: In my opinion, you shouldn't go for this skip until you feel like you confidently know your way around all the other levels and are consistent. In addition, I don't think you should go for this skip until you have a 1:06/1:07. I believe you should focus on the rest of the game before even thinking about this skip. The skip saves around a minute, yes, but you'll lose all of that time-save in the other levels just from cycles and strats if you don't know what you're doing. It's also a pretty tricky skip, but the diagonal off the lily-pad is apparently random due to how the game rounds your pixel position. Feel free to do it, but that's my opinion on it.

Q: How much does Upstream skip save?
A: Around 50s to a minute. It depends how fast you pull off the skip.

UPDATE: My new PB, 1:06:05 has the skip!
(If I'm skipping a lot of splits in a run, this most likely means that I am trying to just finish a run and did not get Upstream skip)
