- byte.by.byte seems much harder then CRC32 or MD5 (in Easy)
- ---
- DuplicateCleaner_1_4_2_beta_setup.exe (now 143 too)
- file selection - tree & or drag & drop
- filter - file name
- filter - file size
- * audio search - not sure what that will do ?
- shows summary info @ end of scan, but then dialog goes away
- & no manner to return to it?
- deletion selection by:
- older/newr
- larger/smaller
- all in group but 1 (leave 1)
- by filename pattern
- by file*path* pattern
- bytes, but no commas in file sizes
- columns: name | path | size | date | type | md5 | group
- all fully sortable
- but only makes sense in some instances
- actually mite not be bad
- on program restart, restores last saved directories scanned
- decent speed. result list is eh. FULLY sortable, which is good.
- only the selection assistant shows #/size of marked files.
- window has to b closed/reopened to manually mark a file ...
- if the results were spaced out better, program would rate higher
- does show intermediate results on a cancel - cancel button only, no PAUSE
- ---
- Auslogics 1.5.2.50
- only file tree selection, but not too bad
- VERY SLOW SEARCH (by content) (by size & content is no better) - horrible
- ineffecient algorithm. if not size same, then no need 2 consider any further!
- columns: name | path | size KB | date & time
- color coded, but otherwise bland
- no sorting
- corrupted display at times & "out of resources" error message.
- poor selection process
- - nothing to distinguish it
- files can be opened by clicking on them
- good, so no embedded "preview" or "viewer" is needed
- ---
- CloneTerminator25 (GAOTD).zip
- wizard driven
- no drag & drop - old style directory picker
- virtually no filtering
- virtually no file selection criteria
- after hitting SCAN, you then have to hit SCAN again befor it does anything.
- FAST scan, but not sure of its criteria
- after scan it goes to RESULTS, where you ahve to hit RESULTS befor it does anything.
- no real selection filtering, no unselect/undo
- columns: name | size KB | group - no date/time - no sorting, but sorted by size/group
- a STOP of the scan does not show any intermediate results
- restarting program does not retain last selected folders
- fail
- ---
- Traqueur_3.1.9 (duplicate file finder).exe
- can only search 1 directory tree at a time
- summary after scan
- columns: name | path | size | date | crc32
- seems FAST & efficient
- can click files to open
- CANNOT FILTER BY SIZE, EXTENSION ...
- cannot do networked drives
- ---
- Dup_Same_Files_Searcher_(1_5) 1.4.3 143
- tree only - once tree is collapsed, there is no longer any indication if any
- subdirectories have been selected. so you could only want to do dir A,
- but dirs B & C may have inadvertently been left selected too!
- fast - REALLY FAST, did T in only a few seconds
- name path size (MB | KB) | FRAGMENTS | date
- can click files
- sorted by size
- HARDLINKS & whatnot
- eh
- results window is TOO busy
- BUT only took 1:35 to do a byte.byte of RECOVER
- though DELETE offers no confirmation - most/all of the others DO!
- --- THAT CAN B *VERY* DANGEROUS !!! ---> i'm thinking i am wrong about that.
- 8:08 to compare ALL OF X: > 100 MB
- FAST IN DOING A CRC/MD5/BYTE COMPARE (whichever it uses), but no method NOT 2do that
- cannot do networked drives
- ---
- CloneSpy 2.4.1
- drag & drop OR tree
- lots of options
- * VERY QUICK
- sorted by size, then shows path/name | date | attrib
- CANNOT preview or otherwise open ANY files
- does not retain folders on program restart
- ---
- DuplicateCleaner_131.exe
- probably needs 2b installed because of dependancies AudioGenie24.ocx & whatnot
- ---
- AntiTwin
- path/name date/time size (KB) - no sorting, not sure in WHAT order it displays?
- can only scan at most 2 directory trees
- relatively quick
- can click files & also has image preview - which isn't bad
- no unselect?
- has a PICTURE comparison mode xx%
- which looks like it will find high/low resolutions of the same pic
- looks to be SLOW, so would help if files presorted.
- like in ALSSCAN ...
- too slow 2b of any use ? yes, TOO SLOW
- cancel does that - no intermediary results.
- can filter size (10MB). can do name - name&size & or different extensions.
- but cannot do SIZE alone. (these options are fast, as 2b expected)
- compare by CONTENT wasn't too bad, but seem 2cause the drive to make some noise.
- shows a /relative/ file/path name in results. different.
- results easily readable. unselect is quirky.
- NO INDICATION of selected (or not) files, so on long list might have selected &
- not realize it & so delete by accident
- *NOISY* & LOOKS 2B TOO SLOW ON BIGGER FILES/DIRS LIKE (recover)
- looks like pause will only pause once it reaches the end of a file, so on a
- big 1 ... CANCEL cancels immediately & it DOES show intermediate results !
- ---
- duplicate_deleter_setup_10.exe
- no drag & drop
- another poor algorithm. must be going thru EVERY file, when there is no need.
- CANCEL, does cancel, but is slow 2do so, & does give intermediate results.
- results that are preselected.
- name | size | date | path, no sort & have no idea in what order they are listed?
- TOO SLOW. i can make coffee & donuts in the time ...
- ---
- primative
- stand-alone exe
- no drag & drop
- can only do 1 directory tree at a time
- no selection options
- TOO PRIMATIVE
- display window isn't bad, though
- ---
- FastDuplicateFileFinder_2001 (mindgems) _1101
- no drag & drop
- name/path size (KB) date/time group
- BUILTIN preview of all file types - incl. wmv (wmp plugin) & hex ... & jpg ...
- can open file & also in explorer
- shows extension ICON, makes it easy to find, say, JPG
- FAST
- not bad for a 11
- speed is OK, not sure what method it is using, but assuming at least CRC32
- BUT the result list & selection (lack thereof) kind of kills it (w/RECOVER)
- stopping a scan, gives NO results whatsoever!
- 2001 is improved over 1101, but some features r pay (which were not in 1101)
- ---
- NoClone (free version)
- can only do 1 directory tree
- path | name | size | date | group
- can click, open folder
- killed itself ? when i clicked 'edition comparison?'
- messages about "outlook" link stuff
- I DON'T THINK IT IS RETURNING CORRECT RESULTS ?
- ---
- Easy (*current versions are pay*)
- FAST (CRC32, but that s/b fine - or can do byte-by-byte)
- name | path | group | size (bytes, no comma) | date/time - sortable, but could b somewhat buggy?
- easy filter: file mask, size
- can open associated program or folder
- can ONLY search by CRC/contents
- no way to search by NAME/SIZE as a quick method
- result list, while workable is a bit limited.
- directory selection is good. simply clicking an entry, checks it, possibly unwanted
- 7:31 to compare ALL OF X: > 100 MB
- *can* do Networked drives
- ---
- DupKiller
- starts of kind of slow, then not too bad
- path | name | size | type | date | match % | attrib
- can click, preview but it's kind of slow
- does show icons
- good selection & exclusion
- biggest problem looks to be that it is kind of slowish
- shows bytes WITH commas (gues what, i can't see commas any more (- )
- good filtering, lots of opions, seems like hi CPU
- seems kind of noisy during compare
- SLOW - estimated time RISES instead of decreases
- it looks like it is doing the right operations, just slow in the comparison?
- the actual comparison just DRAGS & it starts smallest files first so by
- the time it gets to the larger ones ...
- IT TOOK 8:01 MINUTES to byte compare T: > 10 MB, far slower then any
- of the others.
- NOW it DID find some that were 99.99 % matching - that the others DID NOT!
- & those WERE the same - only a FEW bytes (literally) different
- - SO THAT *IS* GOOD
- made some changes but still SLOW SLOW SLOW
- if not for that this would be good for a "cleanup" run to find files
- not 100% the same, but still "the same". might b better for MP3's
- with differing tags.
- still took 7:14 min, with the "quick" comparison & files same = 100%
- now going with 'name & size' completed in an instant. as did SIZE alone.
- size alone pointed out
- BUT it only took 1:47 2do name/size on T: & Y: !! - easily pointing out stuff!
- ---
- rashid 1103
- tree or drag & drop
- sorts files by EXTENSIONish?
- & then within, it marks the dups
- ext | name | path | size (bytes with comma & CAN read) | date/time - no sort
- double-click the "sort" column resizes it - different, but works
- can click a file & have it open
- not bad
- slower then easy.
- biggest problem is result list is confusing
- can do like name&size or size.only which is much faster then contents.only
- can weed out stuff that way (but can also lead to false dups)
- easy to set options
- x:xx to compare ALL OF X: > 100 MB - slightly noisy - OUT OF MEMORY ERROR !!!
- at which point all i could do was to close the app
- ---
- moleskinsoft clone remover
- no drag & drop
- very quick
- very odd layout
- actually works very well for RECOVER
- 10:22-10:30, so 8 min or so for X: >100 MB
- ---
- dupscout_setup_v1.4.38 (bla).exe
- needs install, as it slightly modifies a file or two
- (probably related to the license). could be fast?
- but not sure?
- can't drag&drop - at least not sandboxed. though
- you can paste a path in.
- the file list is, is, is ... some kind of weird. it
- lists 1 of the duplicate files, then you have to
- double-click that to see what the other(s) may be.
- no sorting of the limited columns (name, # of dups,
- size & /wasted space/). date is only available once
- you double-click one of the duplicate sets (& which
- opens in a separate, small window - by the way).
- so, since the file list is all but worthless, that
- makes the entire program all but worthless too. the
- only exception would be if you wanted to delete in
- mass & didn't really care which once went. then you
- could Ctrl+A & delete all newest or such.
- seemingly you cannot delete the singular file that
- is listed in the file list itself, only dups of that
- file. (as in like that particular one is the
- "original" & the others are supposed to be dups or
- something? doesn't make any sense to me.)
- help (not that i looked to see what is available)
- is only available online.
- oh, & this is the free version. some functions
- (not that i can imagine what they may be) are
- locked out.
- so there you have it - bla.
