  3. // BASICS //
  4.
  5. Alupula UNO is an Alupula iteration of the popular card game, UNO.
  6.
  7. The object of the game is to play all of the cards in your hand until you
  8. have no more cards left. The winner then scores points for the cards in
  9. other players' hands (optional). The first player to earn 500 points wins
  10. the game.
  11.
  12. // SET UP //
  13.
  14. Shuffle the deck and deal the cards. Give 7 cards to each player.
  15.
  16. Place the remaining cards in the draw pile. Turn the top card of the pile
  17. over to reveal the first card. If the top card is a Wild, Draw 4, or Nagasaki,
  18. put it at the bottom of the deck and pick a new card.
  19.
  20. // SPECIAL CARDS //
  21.
  22. Draw 2: If you play this card, the next player must draw 2 cards and forfeit
  23. their turn. This card may only be played on another Draw 2 card or on a
  24. card of the same colour as the Draw 2 card you want to play.
  25.
  26. Draw 4: If you play this card, the next player must draw 4 cards and forfeit
  27. their turn. This card may only be played on another Draw 4 card or on a
  28. card of the same colour as the Draw 4 card you want to play.
  29.
  30. Reverse: If this card is played, order of play is reversed. If play is clockwise,
  31. it now goes counterclockwise, and vise versa. This card may only be played
  32. on another Reverse card or a card of the same colour as the Reverse card
  33. you want to play.
  34.
  35. Skip Card: The next person must forfeit their turn. If this is the first card flipped
  36. over from the deck, the dealer is automatically skipped. If you want, you may
  37. bend the rules to prevent this card from being first by placing the skip card to
  38. the bottom of the deck, and drawing a new card. This card may only be played
  39. on another Skip card or on a card of the same colour as the Skip card you want
  40. to play.
  41.
  42. Wild Card: When you play this card, you may change the colour being played into
  43. any colour (including the current colour, but excluding colourless). If this is the first
  44. card put in play, the dealer may pick the first colour.
  45.
  46. Wild Draw 4 Card: This card allows you to call the next colour played, and the next
  47. player must draw 4 cards. However, there's a catch! You may only play this card if
  48. you do not have a card with a matching colour or number, (only exception is if a
  49. colourless card is on the top of the pile). If this card is flipped over at the beginning
  50. of play, discard it and pick a new one.
  51.
  52. Colourless Card: When this card is played, it changes the playing colour to the next
  53. colour put in the pile. Colourless cards also have no defined number, meaning the
  54. card may also be any number. The next card may not be a Wild or Wild Draw 4 Card.
  55.
  56. Nagasaki Card: When this card is played, every player (including the player who played
  57. this card), must count the cards in their deck, and draw that many cards. You may not
  58. win the game using this card. You may place it down as your last card, but you have to
  59. draw 2 cards and the other players draw nothing. It is recommended to take all Nagasaki
  60. cards out of the deck if anyone in your group is new to the game UNO. If the most
  61. recently played card is a Nagasaki, you may not play another Nagasaki card until the
  62. Nagasaki card player's turn comes around again. The Nagasaki card has no value at the
  63. end of the game.
  64.
  65. // WHO'S ON EACH CARD? //
  66.
  67. 0 - Eloise
  68. 1 - James
  69. 2 - Alyssa
  70. 3 - Patrick
  71. 4 - Sandra

  85.
  86. // POINT VALUES //
  87.
  88. Using scoring is optional, but for those using scoring, this is the list of card values:
  89.
  90. NOTE: If you are playing casually, you may set these point values at whatever you
  91. want.
  92.
  93. 0-9: Face Value
  94. Colourless: 10 Points
  95. Draw 2, Reverse, Skip: 20 Points
  96. Draw 4: 50 Points
  97. Wild Draw 4, Wild: 100 Points
  98. Nagasaki: 0 Points
  99.
  100. // WINNING //
  101.
  102. When you are down to only one card, you must shout "UNO". If you do not say "UNO",
  103. you must draw 2 cards. Once you play your final card, if you are not playing with points,
  104. you win. If you are playing with points, add up points from your opponent's hands using
  105. the scoring scale above. If you hit 500 points (or whatever your preferred target is), you
  106. win. If you did not reach the target, you may play again.
