Hunting in Africa

Turning his head, the beast-god noticed the wide dark eyes of the watching ostriches. His low brow wrinkled in unreadable thought. A deep growl his only warning, Kong decided to give chase.
But the flightless birds were fast on their nimble feet. They quickly scattered in all directions—so rapidly that Kong broke off the chase, his jungle instincts telling him that these prey were too fleet of foot for easy capture. It would have been a waste of time.

Kong saw them not. The edible animals he had thus far encountered had not proven very tasty.
Once, a zebra had flashed by, starkly striped, making frightened noises as its hoofs beat out a wild tattoo. Attracted by the unusual creature, Kong had swerved in its direction, but the agile animal ducked into the underbrush and soon eluded him.
Frustrated, Kong pressed on, grunting to himself, deep-set eyes questing about warily.

True, deer and antelope did spring about. But they bolted at the sound and smell of the approaching monster and, while Kong could chase after them for short distances, nature had not designed him for running, much less sprinting.
Lunging in the direction of a nimble springbok, he failed to capture it.
