Open Source in the other hand refers to softwares where you have access to the source code.Open Source softwares are usually maintained by large communities who are devoted to improve the quality of the product.Collaborative development makes enchantments bug fixes etc very frequent. This means that open source software have a great development infrastructure around them.

Are Open Source Softwares secure?

The answer for that is NO.Open Source like their commercial counterparts have flaws. A commercial software vendor might employ one maybe two testers per programmer but open source softwares are heavily tested by tons of contributors before being released which makes them a more secure option.
