- Battle Palace FAQ:
- Basic Definition: The Battle Palace is the "Friendship" (Read as Bullshit) facility. You have to progress 7 3v3 battles. However, you do not get to choose what attack your Pokemon uses. Instead it chooses it itself. And Pokemon do not make the best trainers, no matter what Mewtwo tells you.
- Difficulty: 7th of 7 on easiness scale (Hardest)
- Team: Metagross @ Choice Band: Meteor Mash, Earthquake
- Latios @ Lum Berry: Psychic, Dragon Claw, Thunderbolt (Surf) | Teach Surf after beating Set 3
- Swampert @ Leftovers: Earthquake, Surf, Ice Beam, Rock Slide
- Manipulation: None. You could technically double frame perfect clear to manip the first fight, but it's both ridiculous and not worth it to do so.
- The way the attack is chosen by the Pokemon, is actually based on the nature of your Pokemon. There are 3 different categories of moves, broken up into "Attacking", "Defensive" and "Support". Attacking refers to moves that do damage. Defensive refers to status moves that effect yourself, like Calm Mind or Recover. Support refers to status moves that effect your opponent, like Thunder Wave or Growl.
- The percentage chance of using one of these moves is based on the nature, as said above. But it also changed when you drop below 50% health to different percentages. It is worth noting, that once you drop below half, you stay at those percentages until the end of the battle, even if you go back above half health. Here's the list of percentages per nature:
- 50%+ <50%
- NATURE ATK DEF SUP ATK DEF SUP
- Sassy 88% 6% 6% 22% 20% 58%
- Brave 70% 15% 15% 32% 60% 8%
- Impish 69% 6% 25% 28% 55% 17%
- Timid 62% 10% 28% 30% 20% 50%
- Hardy 61% 7% 32% 61% 7% 32%
- Hasty 58% 37% 5% 88% 6% 6%
- Docile 56% 22% 22% 56% 22% 22%
- Naive 56% 22% 22% 56% 22% 22%
- Quiet 56% 22% 22% 56% 22% 22%
- Quirky 56% 22% 22% 56% 22% 22%
- Mild 44% 50% 6% 34% 6% 60%
- Careful 42% 50% 8% 42% 5% 53%
- Calm 40% 50% 10% 25% 62% 13%
- Adamant 38% 31% 31% 70% 15% 15%
- Lax 35% 10% 55% 29% 6% 65%
- Jolly 35% 5% 60% 35% 60% 5%
- Modest 35% 45% 20% 34% 60% 6%
- Serious 34% 11% 55% 29% 11% 60%
- Bold 30% 20% 50% 32% 58% 10%
- Bashful 30% 58% 12% 30% 58% 12%
- Rash 30% 13% 57% 27% 6% 67%
- Relaxed 25% 15% 60% 75% 15% 10%
- Lonely 20% 25% 55% 84% 8% 8%
- Naughty 20% 70% 10% 70% 22% 8%
- This is the main reason you use a Brave nature for Swampert in this run, because it has a high attacking chance to start with, whereas every other good/decent nature is pretty poor.
- Now you might be wondering; but what if you don't have all 3 types of moves? What happens then? Well, what happens if the remaining percentage is divided up into half choosing a random move, and half doing nothing. So let's take Swampert as an example, with a Brave Nature at full HP:
- It has 70% Att 15% Def 15% Sup. But it only has attacking moves. As such, it then becomes 70% Att and 30% to split between it's moves and doing nothing. As such it has 70% to Attack smartly, 15% to attack dumbly (Choose a random move), and 15% to be "Incapable of using it's power", and as such, do nothing. So by only having attacking moves, you actually increase it's chance of doing damage to 85%, which is considered more useful then using Status moves.
- It is for this reason that you delete Calm Mind off Latios. Too often will it sit there spamming Calm Mind instead of attacking until it dies if you don't. Metagross becomes the main lead player, for the Choice Band gives it predictability as you know what attack it will use after it uses 1. Explosion is deleted for obvious reasons, Shadow Ball is also deleted because there are far too many Normal types, that you would have to switch out of it Metagross chose Shadow Ball.
- However, because Shadow Ball is gone from Metagross, you would otherwise have nothing to kill a Shedinja, which is why Rock Slide is put onto Swampert. That's also helpful for the rare Gyarados matchup, or Butterfree or something. Surf is only given to Latios after Set 3, because there's almost nothing it's helpful with at the lower stages, but at the higher stages it's useful for quite a few Pokemon.
- Chance of Attacking per Pokemon:
- Metagross: 38% Smart, 31% Dumb, Total: 69% | Below half: 70% Smart, 15% Dumb, Total: 85%
- Latios: 35% Smart, 32.5% Dumb, Total: 67.5% | Below half: 34% Smart, 33% Dumb, Total: 67%
- Swampert: 70% Smart, 15% Dumb, Total: 85% | Below half: 32% Smart, 34% Dumb, Total: 66%
