- For the following review, I'm gonna get rid of all my past bias against you (ZeRoY) so that I can give a fair and honest review.
- To begin, the gameplay is very weird and unsatisfying, however I do think the level design in terms of looks is decent. It is relatively nice to look at (about as nice low settings can get, more on that later), and it is quite obvious that much inspiration was taken from an Unreal Engine 4 community-made level, which is fine, and the western theme is great. The buildings are pretty nice on the outside, however there are spots where more detail could be added. Occasionally, myself and others were able to spot things like foliage floating off the ground and other things like that, but it's not like that's going to ruin the whole experience for me. In terms of gameplay, I do think many of the buildings were really close-quarters, which resulted in them being unenjoyable to play in, however the outside portion of the map was pretty fun, except for one thing. The lava pit in the center of the map was suuuuper annoying for two reasons.
- Firstly, you get damaged by it even though you're not anywhere next to it (mostly due to bad trigger placement) and secondly, the clipping around each pit made it hard to cross the little bridge when going at it from an angle that wasn't parallel to it. Ideally, I would have removed the clipping and lava damage entirely, and just put a trigger at the bottom of the pit that would insta-kill the player if and when they landed in it. This allows for smoother movement and the addition of being able to jump over the pit (if you dare to), which in return forces the player to be aware of where they are training their zombies (since that main area is the best spot to do so). Some other problems include bad clipping in other places, but the clipping for the rocks on the ground by the church entrance was one of the more notable occasions that for me. It doesn't really make sense that the player can't walk on rocks that are half a foot tall. Anyways, enough of that.
- There are some other various problems with the map that I'll mention next. Both me and my co-op squad found it very difficult to locate wallbuys because they blend into the environment really well, and as a result never catch the player's eye. On top of that, finding power at first was definitely a challenge, but I guess more of a one-time problem (since once you find it, you remember where it is). Another problem that I personally had was that the mystery box was always in too tight of spaces, however that would not have been as much of a problem if the weapons were decent, which puts me onto my next point; the weapons are pretty much useless. Many of them don't even have headshot multipliers and take too long to kill. On top of that, many of them have very little amounts of ammo, as I found myself not having any after every round passed. I mean, what's the point of custom and brand new weapons if they suck? Another thing about the weapons is that many of them will shoot extremely slow, their ADS time will be slow, their anims will act weird, they will accidentally inspect when reloading (iirc both R and F will inspect the weapon however I'm not entirely sure), and things like the raygun can shoot as fast as someone clicks.
- Now, to talk about the thing I mentioned in the first paragraph, the optimization on this map is terrible. I myself have a 1050ti (which understandably isn't *that* strong but just hear me out), however on normal maps, I am able to play with medium settings and at least be at 60fps most of the time, whereas on this map I have to go to low settings with things like volumetric lighting turned off just to be able to occasionally reach that. My co-op team had a wide variety of GPUs and CPUs including a couple 1080ti's, 1070s, and they all experienced extreme frame drops frequently. This really isn't good (for obvious reasons). Another thing that might or might not be related to optimization is that the map would frequently crash BO3. During one playthrough of co-op, I crashed about 3 times for various reasons. The first time I crashed was as soon as I picked up a shovel off the ground, and other times were when the bat rounds would come on. Another thing I might as well mention, why is the download for this map 5gb~? If you haven't already, I'd suggest cleaning your XPAK and then reuploading.
- ANYWAYS, that's all for my comprehensive review. I give the map a solid 5/10.
