- <p>How does climate affect biodiversity? Why are various plants and
- animals distributed across the globe as we see them? Why do communities
- have particular lineage compositions? These and other basic questions
- about modern living communities can be addressed by comparing
- them with those in deep time. I examine modern insect communities in
- comparison with the diverse and well preserved
- fifty million year old insect communities of the early Eocene Okanagan
- Highlands series of fossil sites in British
- Columbia, Canada and northern Washington, USA. I'm currently working in
- association with
- the <a href="http://www.sfu.ca/content/sfu/biology/people/profiles/mathewes.html" target="_blank">Mathewes
- Lab</a>, Simon Fraser University.</p><p></p>
