Changing the planet name of Kepler 22-b to "Namek"

As a fan of Dragon Ball, Z/GT/Super, Planet Namek has been an icon throughout the stories of the famous anime series/manga series created by Akira Toriyama (Animated by Toei Animation). I have made this petition to get Kepler 22b an official name, which will be named after a very lavish planet. They look alike as well. I petition to change the name of Kepler 22b to "Namek".

SPREAD THE WORD!

The Frieza Saga in the iconic series, DragonBall Z is the most memorable and greatest arc in the entirety of the manga/anime (don’t even try and argue with us) and one of the reasons it was such a memorable story was the setting.

And to honor the green planet, an online petition has appeared to ask NASA to name one of its unnamed planets after Namek.

The petition started by user Lou Earley already has more than 14,000 supporters and is gaining a lot of momentum. Here’s Earley’s reasoning for the naming.

“As a fan of Dragon Ball, Z/GT/Super, Planet Namek has been an icon throughout the stories of the famous anime series/manga series created by Akira Toriyama (Animated by Toei Animation). I have made this petition to get Kepler 22b an official name, which will be named after a very lavish planet. They look alike as well. I petition to change the name of Kepler 22b to "Namek".”

Kepler 22b was discovered by NASA scientists in 2011 and is a habitable planet for humans. However, it’s light years away and our current technology does not allow travel to the planet. But the discovery of Kepler 22b is an important step in possibly finding life in space.

Planet Namek, on the other hand, is the homeworld of the Namekians. The Namekians are a proud race of fighters and Piccolo who is a memorable character in the series, and was the only non-Saiyan in the series to actually be a threat to the revolving world of villains including Frieza and later on Cell.

Namek was crucial in the awesomeness of the Frieza Saga because it was the perfect battleground for the epic fights that occurred on the planet.

With no cities or large populations to speak of and a lush and open world, Namek was ideal for the Z fighters to go all out against the tyrant Frieza. And of course, this is where Goku went Super Saiyan for the first time.

With Kepler 22b being habitable by humans and humans on DBZ being able to survive on Namek, the name change is a no-brainer.
