So basically, I went to the GatorGaming meeting and talked with the President about a few things. One, he is trying to bridge the gap between the League and main GatorGaming clubs. Two, if we want sponsorships we can go through him to use his resources  and his people to get them for anything like tourneys and whatnot, so those inhouse tourneys that we used to have every month can be lightly prized now if we so choose and actually have a turnout due to incentivizing. For money, I'm not sure if Gator Gaming has funding, but maybe they can help that way.(edited)
The big thing is that he wants to bring us all together--going to Gator Gaming meetings, sharing stream links, etc. Promoting the brand, showing up to their events and hangouts and whatnot. Obviously that is no requirement but would be interesting. They have a ton of resources though that the President made clear that he wants us to use and bring us closer to the main club(edited)

Hey y’all, since the semester is over with I have 2 ideas I want to bring up to further community relations and the activeness of players within the UF League community:

1. @Lobsterman first suggested to me about having a 1v1 tournament over the summer. Something that can get as many people in the community involved as possibly while still being tons of fun regardless of skill difference.

2. I want to push the idea of creating semi-competitive / flex teams forward like my team, Ultimate Endeavor. I think it would act as a great way for players to develop and remain competitive throughout the school year should they choose to play. In doing this, I have a couple smaller ideas that I think we should discuss about in a call together in the coming days.

What do you all think?

i didnt host the 1v1 tournament because everyone i was asking at the time seemed either indifferent or didnt want to participate. its gonna be hard to try and influence people to play their own ranked teams if they dont really care to do that on their own anyway
we  probably should look tohave more league casual events irl or something similar

Hey sorry just got home. The tournies are always fun. Ian and I hosted a bunch last summer and it’s usually a good weekend as long as teams enroll. We experimented with cash prizing too but it was difficult for people to register beforehand. Irl events suffer from exactly what ian stated. It has to be a slow transition. Forming semi competitive teams is one method to get small groups to meet eachother and feel less vulnerable once confronted with a larger group. Definitely willing to push that idea on the community but it has to be incentivized with coaching/improving from a volunteer coach who will make the entire experience worth the time the teams put in so that they feel better about their skill level after. Think- pseudo boot camp
If you guys help me with those things, definitely viable plans for this summer

The issue with competitive teams is commitment, we do scheduling for our UF team and still have issues because of classes and just general difficulties players encounter. Most ppl want to be on a team, very few ever willingly commit time consistently.

This is true. I maybe thought though for at least summer we could do something unique--maybe a summer league of some sort. Or if that's too much of a committment, then if we run the summer tourneys again, people can try to play on established teams or something.
Otherwise if we agree that is too much, then we should try to find ways to make the tourneys more fun for everyone! Everyone loves playing with their buds obviously and that's what they're gonna play for, but playing say UF Team 1 vs. my team, we all know who would win. Just to debunk that, my team would obviously play together, but we should find out what preference others have when it comes to those tourneys--having that extra element of fun with your buds or having a high level of competitiveness across even teams say. My money is more on more people would play if they could just play with friends, but its a thought

in-house tourney is fine, but organizing it is tedious. As long as we have the numbers shouldn't be too bad. I would do the IRL event and use that to bring attention to the tourney.
I will say in-house have been always a source of saltiness and friction so I dunno how we can convince ppl to not take them seriously

i see the main issue is gaining new people, spreading awareness that there is in fact a club. Everyone I talk to doesnt feel like they can join the discord or club because theyre low elo, and typically low elo players dont like competition or ranked things. yes you can make it an option for in house tournaments but i dont think stressing on whos the best of the low elos makes some people feel even worse too

make the irl hangout and let the main focus be the community of all elos, and we just casually ask what these kinds of players would enjoy doing. whether its fucking around on arams for fun or queueing up as a 5 man with other low elo people
the reason why im against the high competition among new people is becasue literally a few months ago I came into this discord as a low elo freshman and shitting my pants over diamond and plat players
