  1. DM note: Colored shard and Special Material can only be gained by PC using the method of extractions. Never available in the forms of treasure, quest item, artifact, or trade item. Only Central GM may handover colored shards through reward, trade, or auctions.

  7. === Shards ===
  8.  
  9. Shards are a fragment of crystal that can hold extracts of Demonspawns and other creatures. It is quite common at Glyphrock and often used by commoners as lucky charms.
  10.  
  11. One can only mine clear colored crystal and it hold no extracts. Some people with proper training can extract the essence of creatures and hold it into a clear shard, thus changing its color. The colored crystal looks as if it contains a colorful gas inside.

  13. Colored shards are useful in creating alchemical items, forging adamantine equipments, and weaving mithral links. These shards also used to craft magical equipment, given the formula is known.

  15. A clear shard is around 1 inch cube, sold at around 5gp each at Glyphrock. Colored shards are very rare, since the ones who have them almost never sell them.

  17. A shard is very fragile and immediately destroyed when damaged.

  21. === Color of Shards ===

  23. There are five types of shards, depends on the element inside:
  24. Black/Void: Extracted from Undead or Abberation; or monsters with resistance/immunity to Acid or Psychic
  25. Green/Earth: Extracted from Plant or Fey; or monsters with resistance/immunity to Poison or Charmed
  26. Red/Fire: Extracted from Giant or Fiend; or monsters with resistance/immunity to Fire or nonmagical weapons
  27. White/Wind: Extracted from Beast or Elemental; or monsters with resistance/immunity to Lightning or Thunder
  28. Blue/Water: Extracted from Monstrosity or Celestial; or monsters with resistance/immunity to Cold or Necrotic

  31. === Extraction of Shards ===

  33. To extract, a character needs:
  34. a. A blank (clear) shard.
  35. b. Spending 1 minute of extracting from the remains of a creature with challenge above 0, recently (less than 1 hour) slain. (DM notes: only creature slain in a combat encounter can be used).
  36. c. Should have at least hurt (dealt some damage to) the slain creature, or delivered the killing blow.
  37. d. Succeed at plain ability check against a set DC (based on category). No other character can help the process, otherwise it will fail automatically. Character must forego Concentration spells as well.
  38. e. Each slain creature can only be extracted once, regardless of success or failure. Summoned or Called Monsters can never be extracted. Construct-type monsters can never be extracted.

  40. The Ability and Proficiency needed is based on the type of the monster:
  41. a. Wis, with ranks in Arcana : Dragons, Elementals, Fiends, Oozes.
  42. b. Cha, with ranks in Nature : Beasts, Fey, Giants, Monstrosity, Plants.
  43. c. Int, with ranks in Religion: Aberrations, Celestials, Humanoids, Undeads.

  45. Ranks determine the maximum Grade that can be extracted. There are several Grade of Shards, based on the Challenge of the monster:
  46. a. Less than 1 : Grade E (minimum Rank 1), DC 13
  47. b. Between 1~3 : Grade D (minimum Rank 2), DC 14
  48. c. Between 4~6 : Grade C (minimum Rank 2), DC 15
  49. d. Between 7~9 : Grade B (minimum Rank 3), DC 16
  50. e. Between 10~12 : Grade A (minimum Rank 3), DC 17
  51. f. Between 13~15 : Grade S (minimum Rank 4), DC 18

  55. === Upgrades of Shards ===

  57. A PC who is proficient with Arcana, and also jeweler's tools (or tinker's tools), can combine 5 (five) shards of the same grade and color together with a blank shard into a better grade shard. In example, 5 (five) Grade E Void Shards with a blank Shard can become a Grade D Void Shard; the 5 (five) Grade E Void Shards are consumed in the process.

  59. Alternatively, instead of upgrading the grade of the shards, similar method can be done to make a new shard of different color but a same grade. In previous example, 5 Grade E Void Shards and a blank shard can be combined into 1 Grade E shard of any other color.

  61. A higher grade shard can be used as replacement for lower grade shard. That is, Grade B shard is also considered as Grade C, Grade D, or Grade E shard of the same color. Downgrading a shard is not possible.

  65. === Special Materials ===

Poisons can be extracted using Poisoner's tools, as long as the monster is recently (less than 1 hour) slain in combat encounter, and the gatherer succeed at DC 20 of Intelligence check (proficiency in Poisoner's tools can be used). The Poison gathered is similar with Poison effect of the monster. (DM note: Poison effects are those that need a Con saves, not only additional Poison damage).

Special materials (such as Heart Essence of Dragon, Wings Essence of Wyvern, Belly Essence of Fire Beetle) can be gathered from a recently slain monster with same name or type, and the gatherer succeed at DC 20 of Wisdom check (proficiency in Medicine can be used). The monster must be of Challenge 1 or higher.

  71. Materials from Monsters can only be gathered once per monster, and no other character can help; otherwise it will fail automatically. Summoned or Called Monsters can never be extracted.

  75. === Gaining New Formula ===

  77. To gain new formula of Magic Items, a sample of the magic items must be analyzed and reverse-engineered at the Pan Didactherion Academy. Doing this will destroy the item, but it will give a cumulative 10% chance of success in gaining new formula (that is, the first time an item submitted, it has only 10% chance of success; the second time similar other item submitted, it has 20% chance; Similarity means exactly the same magical effect and same property).

  79. DM Note: Remember that quirk of magic item is rolled randomly upon creation, while property of magic item is rolled randomly at forum upon bestowment on a session.
