  1. >Laika shifted uncomfortably in her seat. She scanned the interior of the Burping Burger, having never been to a fast food place before.
  2. >It had been her mother's idea to come here for lunch, only Laika found out at the last minute that Becky would not be coming with them.
  3. >The tall girl's eyes fell on the back of her father, standing in line. Laika had no idea what to order, and the man had offered to choose for her, and told her to find a seat and get comfortable.
  4. >As much as she tried, she couldn't relax. Only a week ago she found out that the man, Lincoln, was her biological father. The idea of being alone with him scared her somewhat. But her mother always believed in confronting your fears head on, and so Laika was left to spend the afternoon with her dad.
  5. >The Russian frowned at the word, 'dad'. So strange and foreign to her still. She flicked her eyes up and noticed the man in question was no longer in line, and was instead already steps away from the booth she choose
  6. >He smiled at her as he set down a tray on the table, before setting his own down and took a seat across from her
  7. >"I got you a cheeseburger and a root beer, same as me"
  8. >"Thank you" she watched as he unwrapped his food and chomped into it, looking pleased
  9. >Laika picked up her own burger and studied it, feeling the weight and warmth. Unwrapping it she shrugged and took a bite
  10. >Her eyes widened as the taste of beef, cheese and secret sauce filled her mouth, and she quickly took another greedy bite
  11. >Lincoln was watching her with a small grin "Good huh?"
  12. >Laika suddenly felt self conscious as she took small bites and nodded stiffly "I have never had beef in this manner, only in stew and soup"
  13. >Lincoln nodded in understanding as they finished their meal in awkward silence. Wiping his mouth off with a napkin he motioned to speak
  14. >"So what do you think of slowly introducing you to your new brothers and sisters one at a time? Like we're doing having lunch"
  15.
  16. >Laika frowned as she used her straw to stir the ice in her root beer "Is...acceptable I suppose" she flicked her eyes up to his with a small glare "I still prefer if Lacy never finds out"
  17. >Lincoln grinned "Y'know eventually I'll have tell her."
  18. >"Could you be good father and wait until I am dead?"
  19. >He chuckled "We can tell her last, hows that?"
  20. >Laika nodded with reluctance "It will do for now"
  21. >"Any picks on who's first?"
  22. >The Russian girl pursed her lips in thought for a moment "Mousy one, Liby? And Snow hair girl. Least annoying"
  23. >Lincoln smiled "I think you guys will get along fine. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask. They're your family now"
  24. >Laika furrowed her brow in thought, something had been bothering her for a while now
  25. >"I have few questions"
  26. >"Shoot"
  27. >"How old are you?"
  28. >Lincoln tilted his head, not what he was expecting "I'll be 32 this month"
  29. >'This means you were around 17 when I was born"
  30. >Her father nodded slowly
  31. >"Oldest daughter, jittery girl, how old?"
  32. >The color was starting to drain from Lincoln's face as he answered "She's 19"
  33. >The girl was sharp
  34. >"So you were about 12 to 13 when she was born?" Laika looked at him with appalled confusion
  35. >Lincoln swallowed a lump in his throat as he looked down and ran his hand through his hair nervously "Our family situation is...unique"
  36. >Laika picked up on her fathers reluctance to explain further and nodded with a frown
  37. >"They warned me about American debauchery"
  38. >Lincoln couldn't help but give a small smile "I assure you, as strange as it seems I love all my children. I don't regret the situation I'm in"
  39. >Laika studied the man, it was clear that family was very important to him and she could respect that
  40. >"I have more questions"
  41. >"Go ahead"
  42.
  43. >"You were with mama at time when you were already a father. Was mama a mistress? Are you unfaithful? I also have doubts that all your children are from one woman."
  44. >Lincoln slumped a little in his seat "This...might be hard to understand. I'm with multiple women right not, I have been for years. I loved your mother, it wasn't a simple fling."
  45. >Laika frowned "So at dinner party, women present were part of harem? You are polygamist? How does this happen?"
  46. >The man stared off at nothing, pursing his lips together "Its...a long story. It wasn't easy for everyone at first, there was lots of fighting. Us all living together is something that took years to happen, having my children and their mothers join the house one by one."
  47. >Laika could see the pain in her father's eyes and her expression softened a little. Lincoln placed his hand over hers an smiled at her, she tensed, but didn't pull away.
  48. >"Your family situation is hard to understand. but you seem to value fatherhood too much to be simple hedonist. I will go along with arrangements."
  49. >Lincoln smiled warmly at her.
  50. >"I have last questions, I am not only bastard child am I?"
  51. >Lincoln frowned "I prefer illegitimate , but no, you're not. I have others that are in a similar situation to you, but I've been more involved in their lives and helped out anyway I can."
  52. >"I know what I am, fancy sugar word means same thing. Annoying skate board girl, she is bastard child too yes? White hair is dead giveaway."
  53. >The man nodded "Yes, Lina doesn't know yet. We're waiting for the right time to tell her"
  54. >"But she is dating fluffy haired son yes? This is incest, I know you are man whore but how is this not issue for you?"
  55. >The color drained from Lincoln's face once more as he held his head in his hands as he mind struggled on how to bail him out "Oh boy"
  56. >The girl was very sharp
  57. >"Alright listen closely, this is going to get weird"
