- A process server and his marijuana dealer wind up on the run from hitmen and a corrupt police officer after he witnesses his dealer's boss murder a competitor while trying to serve papers on him.
- Lazy court-process clerk and stoner Dale Denton has only one reason to visit his equally lazy dealer Saul Silver: to purchase weed, specifically, a rare new strain called Pineapple Express. But when Dale becomes the only witness to a murder by a crooked cop and the city's most dangerous drug lord, he panics and dumps his roach of Pineapple Express at the scene. Dale now has another reason to visit Saul: to find out if the weed is so rare that it can be traced back to him--and it is. As Dale and Saul run for their lives, they quickly discover that they're not suffering from weed-fueled paranoia: incredibly, the bad guys really are hot on their trail and trying to figure out the fastest way to kill them both. All aboard the Pineapple Express.
- This film is just like other comedies from this crew but just like those this film is really solid and everything they touch is decent. This film sees a drug user Seth Rogen and his dealer James Franco attempting to escape from the powers above. Now Rogen and Franco are fantastic and their chemistry is great, Everything they touch turns to gold and they keep producing solid film after solid film. The Side characters are all solid Danny McBride as Red was funny when he was there and was a really funny supporting character. Rogen's girlfriend and the bad guys are all funny and solid and really bring something to the film. Now a real negative to the film is that of the story, there isn't really a coherent plot and side characters leave and arrive out of nowhere and it makes the film feel disjointed. The script is really good just like the other comedies by this group and each character seems to get their moment to shine. The style was decent but sometimes a bit ridiculous and over bloody which can be a critic on these films. Overall I enjoyed this film and I think this crew are doing some great work recently.
- The first review I read sold this movie to me, but after the first 30 minutes of watching some guy driving around smoking weed and trying really hard but failing horribly to act stoned, I wished to be watching anything but this drivel.<br/><br/>Seth Rogen is a great actor I thought he was great in 'The 40 Year Old Virgin' and 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy' but the premise of this story is that he is is a slacker stoner but he isn't remotely convincing as this type of character, he Is totally unbelievable and this is the main reason why I didn't enjoy the movie.<br/><br/>The comedy is like a two hour long sketch show, there is not much continuity between the gags, the script is lifeless and stupid (not in a good way)<br/><br/>I was left with a feeling of almost despair after watching it, then I saw 'Happy go Lucky' and my faith was restored.
- Around the midpoint, Pineapple Express falls apart and keeps falling, and the comedy, spiced with considerable, unevenly effective violence in that first hour, goes out the window, and in comes all the gore and the bone-crunching.
- Pineapple Express is based on a screenplay by Seth Rogen (who also stars in the film), Evan Goldberg, and Judd Apatow (who also produced the film). According to Apatow, the source of inspiration for Pineapple Express was <a href="/name/nm0000093/">Brad Pitt</a>'s character [a stoner named Floyd] in <a href="/title/tt0108399/">True Romance (1993)</a> (1993). "Paper Planes" by M.I.A Most viewers simply chalk it up to "suspension of disbelief". Some critics have likened Red's pseudo-immortality to Wile E. Coyote's, i.e. the ridiculous amount of punishment he is able to take is part of the joke. Others have seen it as a reference to <a href="/title/tt0478311/">Knocked Up (2007)</a> (2007) in which the character Ben Stone (<a href="/name/nm0736622/">Seth Rogen</a>), praises the cure-all purposes of marijuana. "It is, like, the best medicine. 'Cause it fixes everything. Jonah broke his elbow once. We just... got high and... it still clicks but, I mean, he's ok." One of the complaints of the action sequences in this film is that they are very start-and-stop. As stated by Seth Rogen on the DVD commentary for the film, "the action is start-and-stop because we just really didn't have the money." This is an R-rated comedy, so the censored parts are not all that spectacular. To be frank, there is not one change that seems to be worth censoring, only new dialogues and story parts have been added. There are some violent sequences at the end, but those are in the R-rated as well. a5c7b9f00b
