    DUMPLING ━ used by the members because back in her trainee days, she had a lot of baby fat in her cheeks. when she smiled wide, her cheeks would lift up, and she'd mimic the look of a squishy looking dumpling. it's kind of embarrassing, but it's a term of endearment coming from the people she loves. to keep it short, chorong deals with it.

     DOKI DOKI ━ it's a japanese onomatopoeia to describe the sound of a heartbeat. since chorong is half-japanese [from her moms side], the fans, specifically in that region, picked up the name for her because of her visuals. she makes peoples hearts go 'doki doki.' jaemin (her love interest) teases her about it.

BACKGROUND:

BIRTH — to set the scene, it's a windy night in yakohama, japan. a three days overdue woman and her cunning husband have been wandering the streets with one another holding hands. they'd payed a visit to akari's parents in japan, but the worrisome couple couldn't stay hauled up in their house knowing that little chorong was still cuddled up inside. pressure was building in the mother: she was afraid and anxious. their son sungmin— two years old at the time—was back with his grandparents causing havoc. a calm breeze drifted through the evening air, as the the city was laying to rest, that was until akari feels a jolt and water pools. it was history from then on. how chorong knows the story, she likes to say the wind pushed her out, and quote "boom, out popped a legend." yakohama was her home for the first year of her life as her mother was way to anxious about taking her on a plane yet. that year was spent living on her grandparents apple farm, and taking walks every night in her father's arms. a peace and calm that her dads native city of cheonju didn't warrant. but she can't say she misses it, she doesn't remember it.

CHILDHOOD — she was an exhausting child to say the least. always having her two-sense in everything, and bouncing around with those two ponytails like she had no care in the world. she didn't, at least not that she knew of. however, behind the scenes, her parents heavily struggled with money. having two young children was a full time job for her mom, and her dad worked in his japchae restaurant day and night without ceasing. he'd come home into the pitch black hours of the night, plop down on the couch with a huff, and eat dinner by himself every single night. but she'd been put to bed and wouldn't find out about his suffering till many years into her teenage life. she was never the brightest student, but athletics wise she was quite the sprinter, and was extremely flexible. her life was devoted to sports, on the contrary, her brother played the piano like a visionary and was heavily involved in theater. chorong didn't understand at first. what did sungmin see in music? that was until she herself tried.

TEENAGE YEARS — choir was just a hobby, so was listening to sungmin practice his piano at night, and the ballet lessons that she'd started up. little chorong didn't even realize she was falling in love with music until she refused to leave her dance studio at night till she perfected the choreography. when she'd go home and dance in the mirror so hard she was panting by the time she finished her own miniature performance. her parents noticed, but the fact that they were still tight on money urged them to pull her out, so they did. they shut off the dance lessons, same with the choir, and practically shoved her nose back into her textbooks. those two years ranging from when she was thirteen to fourteen were so miserable for her. she felt like the one thing she'd fallen in love with was snatched away. but soon it would be back in her hands. sungmin saw an internet post about upcoming sm auditions in seoul. at first she refused, but her brother saw it in her eyes that passion she had when she moved across the stage at her recitals, and how much of her time she put into perfection, and couldn't let her loose this. (she got her competitive, never-give-up attitude from her brother). chorong did the audition, and made it into sm entertainment through a interpretive piece that she'd done for a concert once.

the rest was history.



PERSONALITY:

PRIDEFUL (in a sense).
lee chorong is good at everything, it's as simple as that. ice-skating she can probably do it, though she's never tried. whittling: seems a little complicated, but give her like an hour and a half, and she'll figure something out. it comes from the fact that she has an ego. chorong isn't necessarily an egotistical person by nature, but she knows she's good at what she does, and she knows she does it damn well. there's no same in her enjoying her own accomplishments. except, she lets her talent sometimes blindside her, and ends up looking like an asshole in the process. she let's the fact that she's good at everything she tries blow up in her face like a explosion of mercury, and let it circulate into her senses. it's something that she doesn't even notice till her members bring it up.


LEADER.
it might not seem exactly like a personality trait, but it surely as. it's a talent to do what she does, and as we've established, she's good at everything. she can get her members in a line in seconds, she enjoys taking initiative, and her voice when she yells could shake the eiffle tower. she's always the first one to throw out her ideas, or a suggestion if it pops into her head. sometimes, she even helps with the choreography if the choreographer is stumped on a move or sometime doesn't turn out right. this can lead to immense stress on her part because though being a good leader is a good thing, it's a hard thing to do. she's always the one staying at the practice room overnight to perfect her moves, so she can help teach them the next day. however, chorong ignores whatever thoughts she has, and continues on. she was given her position for a reason.



OVERPROTECTIVE.
her overprotectiveness isn't necessarily a good thing all of the time. when chorong has something, or someone in her life, she doesn't just let it go. for anyone. when there's someone special in her life, she prefers if they stick to her by her side at all times, and don't leave her. ever. which in general is just being overbearing and clingy, but she often doesn't particularly see it as that. in her mind, it translates as welcoming and passionate, but in practice it can scare people away. she's a wholesome girl, and means no harm in how much she cares, but it's a habit she can't exactly break. it's embedded in her coding, and rooted so deep within her heart that it's like picking away at a rock with a stick. however, it doesn't always do harm. this character quality often leads chorong to keep her friends in healthy mental states, eating good, and drinking plenty of water. as she's so overprotective towards those she deeply cares about, she tends to lead them away from danger, both eminent, and in the future. not necessarily in a paternal way, but in a manor that is more under the table than that. her overprotective tendencies are a bit more transparent. she tends to do things more discreetly as her pride is a little too big for that.

EXTROVERTED.
a bursting bundle of never ending energy. introduces herself with the same amount of enthusiasm as someone who just snorted a fresh line of coke. chorong enjoys the warm embrace of people. whether she knows them that well or not. it could be meeting fans, meetings with managers, bus drivers, convenience store clerks, literally anyone. if she approaches you with that curled eye smile, just know she's overly enthused about people in general, and is very excited to meet your acquaintance. she isn't afraid to approach strangers, and has the type of mindset where if you want it: go get it and don't stop trying. that even circulates to people. if they don't like you, keep talking, and continually smile and they'll succumb eventually.

FRAIL.
you'd never assume it, but chorong wasn't always as extroverted as she is now. in her trainee days, she didn't have much to say, and stayed hidden behind a veil of shyness and anxiety. it was the constant yelling by trainers, and the degrading comments by her fellow trainees that made her retreat so far back within herself. in fact, she only emerged out of that shell when a sunbae informed her that her chances of debut were getting higher as her vocal range improved. it was that boost of self-esteem that shot her way up into the stratosphere to become the vega that the world knows today. but that side of chorong never truly died like she craved so desperately it would. it can still sometimes emerge at moments where she wished it wouldn't like when she's being scolded harshly, or when she reads negative comments about her singing voice (she knows she's a dancer, not a main vocalist, and the fact that she feels like she's not enough gets to her head). she'll swallow it back between her lips, pretend like it doesn't hurt even when it does, and continue on like nothing happened.

COMPASSIONATE.
chorong loves her members. in fact, cho loves everyone. helping people with their problems, giving direction and advice is something she hasn't mastered but she works her ass off to be there whenever anyone calls her name. she has a heart for people. and seeing those she loves in any form of distress triggers her in some sort of way that makes it physically impossible for her to ignore. she suffers from too much empathy [ ;) ], and caring too much about other people. it's a blessing and a curse mixed together. she'd do anything for her members, no matter how much it would hurt her.


JEALOUS.
another one of those negative things about herself that she poorly attempts to hide away. her need to be good at everything often comes from the fact that in her younger years, she always felt like her parents favored her brother, letting him keep his piano lessons and stay in his dramas when they took away her music. she needed to prove to her parents that she was better than him in some sort of small way, but  chorong would never admit it because she herself thinks it isn't true (even when she deep down knows it is). she wasn't enough for her parents, but maybe she can be just enough for her members, and the ceo, and even jaemin. and when chorong feels like she can't do it anymore, it triggers her jealousy for people she feels like can. (ties in with how competitive she is, even in little things). the members of the group that are just a tiny bit prettier, smarter, or which ever one can make people laugh before she can; she has to outdo them in some way. it can often lead her in downward spirals, but she doesn't know how to stop it. constantly pressured with the weight of being an idol, chorong just keeps her thoughts to herself on this particular accord and puts on a smile when outside. but on the inside, these envious thoughts plague her.

OPTIMISTIC.
one happy ass girl. she can always find light at the end of the tunnel, even if it's just external and she doesn't actually think it might work. it's a trait she picked up when becoming leader.  she sees the good in situations where no one would be able to find any. if it's raining and they have an outdoor performance, put on some cute raincoats and make it into a concept. if someone is sick and throwing up, take them to the hospital and don't give up. it helps her shine out all the negativity when it gets too much for her unit to handle. she's a leader of a bunch of children, and one of the eldest members of her unit at that, chorong never throws down the gauntlet and gives up on them. she has to manage a smile even in the bad moments, and be there for them. so, she's a ball of radiating optimism.

COMPETITIVE.
once bit a member of her group to beat her in a race, true story. it's kind of a problem because it limits her sometimes to the point where all she can think about is winning no matter the cost or whom it upsets. and it doesn't help that if lee chorong is going to do it, she's probably going to do it well. she has a little habit of making anything and everything into a game or a race of some sort.

BUSYBODY:
a mind to busy for her stature, and not lot of time on her hands. time is such a precious thing to her solely because she's an idol. she has stages, practices, vocal lessons, recording sessions, ect. and when there's only 24 hours in a day, she has to practically be bouncing around everywhere in order to get anything done. doesn't help that she has to still find time to sleep, eat, and drink water which in her option take up way too much time and she never gets anything done at that point. maintenance in that area of her life are pretty low. chorong only ever settles down even ARTEMIS forces her to, and even then she's probably doing something while she takes a breather.

HOW YOU MET:

it's seven-o-clock in the morning. chorong is exhausted from not getting sleep and trying to stay awake to go get some information from her manager downstairs. she's slugging along; a face mask on up to her nose, a hat basically covering her eyes, and in her hand she's holding a bagel with cream cheese on it. courtesy of HESTIA whom had practically shoved it in her hand when she tried to walk out the hotel room without eating anything. she reaches the elevator, and another body is standing there already, and the button is glowing like they'd just pressed it and it was coming up. she approaches the familiar looking boy, but doesn't make eye contact. he does. he looks up from his phone just as the doors open and she passes him by completely, and enters the surprisingly cold lift. he asks what floor, and she responds with the level and he clicks the button. "you're from goddess, right? i'm jaemin from nct" finally chorong looks at him and bows slightly, pulling down her mask, "m' chorong." the elevator doors open and she heads out, not before jaemin calls out of her, "chorong? you've got something on your face" with a snicker the doors close, and she's left in shock. reaching up to touch her face, she wipes off a glob of cream cheese.



FIRST IMPRESSION OF HIM: she was surprised he wasn't cackling. plus, her embarrassment was stopping her from gawking about how cute he was. or maybe that was just adding to the redness on her face when the doors closed. he was the na jaemin she'd always heard about: the one with the back injury. except she missed one detail about him, he was freaking gorgeous. his face was practically glowing. and despite the news that she had food on her face, he still managed to look good. a bearer of bad news, but cute nonetheless.

FIRST IMPRESSION OF HER: a mess mostly. she had cream cheese in her face, but he couldn't help but smile because of how oblivious she was about it. plus she was a lot prettier in person than she was in pictures. her hat was tilted all the way down and her mask was as far up as it could go and chorong still looked cute.

RELATIONSHIP:

— beginning: he's cute and she can't handle that. at all. so she treats him like he's a younger bro to her and nothing more. she'll kick him, and flick his arms when he says something she either doesn't like or she finds funny. sungmin never really brought his friends around (plus, she became a trainee very young), male and female trainees didn't have much interaction, and she's in an all girl group. chorong doesn't really know anything about boys, so she doesn't know how to react when one of them avidly talks to her even in just a platonic way. and what's worse, jaemin doesn't seem to mind it.

— middle: there was something about jaemin that she enjoys so much. and she has absolutely no goddamn idea what is it. the hair, maybe. something in his eyes, possibly. or maybe it's the voice; the chime when he sings, or when he laughs in earnest. she didn't like him (surely not, gasp!), but she sees something in him that reminds her of her best friend back in cheonju. someone that she can confide in about the struggles of their industry, and talk about life with. she thinks he's cute, scratch that gorgeous, but she wouldn't ever tell him.

— end: they're best friends. best friends that had their first kiss with each other. best friends that do literally everything together, and are annoyingly joined at the hip. jaemin means a lot to her. he reminds her of home which is something that she doesn't get to feel often. if there's one thing she's not transparent about it's her feelings for him. chorong would never admit to anyone out loud that she likes him, but the way that her face turns hot when he smiles at her or when he sits too close says enough. chorong, however, actually believes that they're just friends despite the fact that they've shared a kiss [see COUPLE TRIVIA for the tea]. it takes him finally admitting out loud for her to understand. in any case, she's still very lowkey about their relationship. doing everything more secret.


RELATIONSHIP (his pov):

— beginning: not as shy, which makes his hyungs coo at him and tease him about how much he talks to her. or how whenever is kakaotalk buzzes, it's most likely chorong, and they all wrestle for his phone to see the message. he wants to talk to her. na jaemin wants to talk to a female, which is strange considering how awkward he is, but it's mostly because he believes she only sees him as like a little brother. someone to pick on and flick. it makes it easier to talk when she makes herself seem like nothing more than just an older female friend. but that doesn't mean he doesn't blush when she sends him cute picture on kakao, or how he can't help but nervously laugh when she compliments him.

— middle: this is when things start getting a little bit real. they begin to see each other as more of his friend, more so as best friend, and a confidant. they talk any chance they get, which warrants some bothersome teasing on both parts from nct and goddess alike. he attempts to ignore it, but he can't suppress his emotions when he sees her. how much his face lights up when she shows up in the room, or how his heart stops a little when she gives him hugs in excitement. he's still oblivious to her feelings for him, and believes whatever feelings he has are one sided so he never acts on anything. just keeps his thoughts to himself and pretends like he doesn't feel anything but  normal platonic best friend emotions for her.

— end: when he kisses her, that's when things become clear for him. he sees something in chorong that makes him get butterflies. it's immature, and naive, and youthful all in the best ways, but he refuses to admit anything. that is until his hyungs catch him freaking out about her that they practically drag him by the ear to her door and force him to confess. just like chorong, he has no problem keeping their relationship a secret, in fact, it's more personal that way, and he likes it.
