- Endorphine gives channel operator status to tocia
- <lingfala> Ah Elanor
- <lingfala> Yeah I'm here
- <Enqi> sinecure
- <Enqi> are you here?
- <Enqi> just hang around for abit, let me call sam
- <Enqi> anyway I will be going through your interview, basically I will introduce you to the basics of doa
- <lingfala> Ok sure
- <Enqi> so I'm elanor
- <Enqi> there's a few other group members in here, such as tocia, who does eng subs
- <Enqi> sinecure and dana, both are encoders.
- <Enqi> I assume you understand what doa is about
- <Enqi> ?
- <lingfala> More or less yeah
- <Enqi> Just to cover the basics, we are a tv show group with different divisions focusing on tv content in different regions of asia.
- <Enqi> we are not a 0day group, for us, quality matters, as opposed to quantity
- <Enqi> do you have any prior encoding experience?
- <Enqi> basic stuff like handbrake, virtualdubmod, stuff like this
- <lingfala> Some of the basics yeah. Encoding from profiles out of tutorials in handbrake though
- <Enqi> so in general, video encoding is a time consuming, and tedious process
- <Enqi> it's not as automated as it seems, because for various sources, you need to write a different script in order to handle the various types of deinterlacing that you will face
- <Enqi> of course, as a newbie, you will be assigned a teacher upon entrance into the group, and this teacher will coach you accordingly, by starting you off with the basic training course that members have to go through
- <Enqi> you will learn various techniques from these members in the process, and it may be a time consuming/tedious task
- <Enqi> so I need to know that you are willing to put in the time and effort to learn
- <lingfala> admittedly that could be difficult
- <lingfala> with timezones and availability etc
- <Enqi> you will be coached for sure
- <Enqi> where do you live?
- <Enqi> region wise
- <lingfala> Australia
- <Enqi> do you speak any language other than english?
- <lingfala> basic Japanese
- <Enqi> chinese?
- <lingfala> No chinese
- <Enqi> that might be hard, but I'm sure that we can possibly find a teacher to teach you still
- <Enqi> I will need to speak to the leader
- <lingfala> Okay
- <lingfala> If that kind of depth is required
- <Enqi> basically, no need to worry about sources
- <lingfala> I think I may be wasting your time
- <Enqi> :O
- <lingfala> or rather
- <lingfala> I don't think I'm going to be able to pickup chinese at any reasonable pace lol
- <Enqi> oh
- <Enqi> you dont need to learn chinese
- <Enqi> it's jsut that majority of the encoders speak chinese
- <Enqi> since they're from china
- <Enqi> I can ask if you can be taught by one of the avaliable ones who speak english
- <Enqi> sinecure is an american
- <Enqi> and rong is a canadian
- <lingfala> How would the teaching normally be conducted?
- <Enqi> there's a manual
- <Enqi> :D
- <Enqi> but basically, they will pass you different type of sources
- <Enqi> ask you to give it a shot
- <Enqi> then correct you if needed
- <lingfala> Ahh okay
- <Enqi> for tv source, you do not need to worry
- <Enqi> we have dedicated capping teams in korea to take care of that stuff
- <Enqi> you probably will be assigned one or two projects per week
- <Enqi> you can decline projects
- <Enqi> if you're not free
- <Enqi> we will provide you with an invitation to the site that we release on
- <Enqi> it is one of the biggest chinese trackers, and invites are no longer avaliable, unless you join an internal encoding team.
- <lingfala> Okay
- <lingfala> So the projects are for learning but also as a trial of sorts?
- <Enqi> projects refer to a show
- <Enqi> you might not be assigned to a show that quickly
- <Enqi> but towards the end of your training
- <Enqi> you may be assigned to a series
- <Enqi> to give you some first hand experience
