  1. Greetings, young Mukyu.
  2.
  3. This scroll will have a dual purpose: To provide you with a basic hunting kata, and to explain what kata forms, momentum and ka are all about. The first part of the scroll will give you your first kata form, and explain how to use it, while the second part will go into why you did what you did.
  4.
  5. With that over with, let's make a form!
  6.
  7. KATA STUDY HUNT 1
  8. KATA DEVELOP HUNT 1 ACTION 1 KICK LEFT
  9. KATA DEVELOP HUNT 1 ACTION 2 PUNCH LEFT
  10. KATA DEVELOP HUNT 1 ACTION 3 PUNCH RIGHT
  11. KATA STUDY HUNT 2
  12. KATA DEVELOP HUNT 2 ACTION 1 KICK LEFT
  13. KATA DEVELOP HUNT 2 ACTION 2 PUNCH LEFT
  14. KATA DEVELOP HUNT 2 ACTION 3 PUNCH RIGHT
  15. KATA DEVELOP HUNT 2 MODIFIERS SPEED
  16. SETALIAS ZZ KATA PERFORM &TAR HUNT
  17.
  18. To use this to attack a rat, use the following:
  19. ST TAR RAT
  20. ZZ
  21.
  22. To attack other things, just adjust the ST TAR accordingly.
  23.
  24.
  25. So what was all that you just did? Let's first go into more details into what kata forms are.
  26.
  27. In short, kata forms are combinations of moves you can make. Each form can have three moves, and they have to use different balances (of course, you can't do two things with your left arm at once, now can you?). In addition, you have to have balance on one leg at all times, so you can't use two kicks and one punch. That leaves one kick and two punches.
  28.
  29. In addition to this, kata forms can have modifiers. In the example above, we only have one modifier: Speed. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this makes you regain balance faster. So why don't we use Speed in the first set? That's where momentum and ka comes into play.
  30.
  31. First, each move have a ka weight associated with it. Kicks haev a weight of 100 ka, punches have a weight of 50 ka, and the Speed modifier another 100 ka. So one kick and two punches would have a total weight of 200 ka, and one kick, two punches and Speed would come to 300 ka. Other moves have their own weight, of course, and they can all be seen in their appropriate ABs.
  32.
  33. What limits how much ka weight you can use is momentum. If you have one momentum (which you always have, even if you don't know it) you can use a maximum total weight of 250 ka. With two momentum, you can use 350 weight. With that in mind, it's easy to see that you wouldn't be able to afford the Speed modifier in combination with one kick and two punches if you only have one momentum; you'd have to have two momentum to be able to use it.
  34.
  35. There are also further momentum and ka levels: A momentum of three gives you 450 weight, four gives you 750 weight and give gives you 1000 weight. There is also a sixth that gives you 1500 weight, but you can't reach that through normal means. These numbers can also be seen when you modify a form that have a variation of that momentum, or through reviewing the form (which you can do with KATA REVIEW <form>). You will also be alerted if you try to assign more weight than you have available at that specific momentum.
  36.
  37. With the above in mind, let's go over what we did again.
  38.
  39. KATA STUDY HUNT 1
  40. -- This will prepare you to develop (and use) a form called HUNT
  41. at momentum one.
  42. KATA DEVELOP HUNT 1 ACTION 1 KICK LEFT
  43. -- The first action when performing the HUNT form at momentum 1 is
  44. a kick with your left leg.
  45. KATA DEVELOP HUNT 1 ACTION 2 PUNCH LEFT
  46. -- The second action will be a punch with your left arm.
  47. KATA DEVELOP HUNT 1 ACTION 3 PUNCH RIGHT
  48. -- And the third will be a punch with your right arm.
  49. KATA STUDY HUNT 2
  50. -- Makes a more advanced version of the HUNT form that is used when
  51. you have two momentum.
  52. KATA DEVELOP HUNT 2 ACTION 1 KICK LEFT
  53. KATA DEVELOP HUNT 2 ACTION 2 PUNCH LEFT
  54. KATA DEVELOP HUNT 2 ACTION 3 PUNCH RIGHT
  55. -- As before, the three actions are the same. The only difference
  56. is what momentum they're assigned to.
  57. KATA DEVELOP HUNT 2 MODIFIERS SPEED
  58. -- Since we'd have 350 ka to use at momentum two, we can use the
  59. Speed modifier to become a bit quicker.
  60.
  61. Now, whenever you use the Hunt form, you will always use the most advanced form that you have momentum for. So if you have one momentum, you will use the variant for momentum one, and if you have two or more momentum, you will use the variant for momentum two.
  62.
  63. The SETALIAS and ST TAR parts are not part of katas, but they are explained in greater detail in HELP ALIAS.
